Chapter 1100
Sydney was unconscious for three days.
When she finally woke up, she found herself in a ward. She felt as though every bone in her body was broken.
Her mind was in a fuzzy mess and her eyelids felt as though they were glued shut. She couldn't open them no matter how hard she tried.
A faint smell of disinfectant drifted into her nose.
A soft, warm towel caressed her eyes; soon, she could open them as her vision was slowly brought to focus. She turned her head slowly and saw Christopher seated at her bedside, his eyes filled with worry.
Sydney opened her mouth, wanting to say something.
Christopher put the towel down and said in a small voice, "You're finally awake. I'll get you some water."
He turned around and poured a glass of water for Sydney. Then, he carefully sat her up and put the glass to her lips.
Sydney gulped down a few mouthfuls of water. Her throat hurt, and she started coughing. Christopher patted her back gently.
Sydney's whole body was in terrible pain.
Christopher pressed a button next to the bed. A doctor walked in shortly after, and he checked Sydney thoroughly as Christopher stood on the side.
"Mr. Jackson, Mrs. Harper still needs rest. It's best she doesn't get out of bed and someone watches her round the clock."
Christopher nodded. "If there's nothing else, you may leave."
The doctor left the room.
Christopher came to Sydney's side and sat on her bedside, holding her hand. "Don't worry. I won't let you get hurt again. I've also contacted the Spencers and told them that you're fine."
Sydney gave him a weak smile. "You call this fine?"
Christopher lowered his head, disappointment flashing past his eyes. "I'm sorry."
"Why are you apologizing to me?" Sydney asked hoarsely.
"I'm sorry that my mother did this to you."
"Your mother?" Sydney gritted her teeth. "What do you intend to do?"
Christopher furrowed his brows, helplessness filling his eyes as he held Sydney's hand gently.
"Syd, let's talk about this again when you get better, okay? Don't worry; no matter what, I'll make amends for this. Let's first focus on
recuperation. I'll come visit your
day and keep you company.
The hesitation in Christopher's eyes made Sydney pull her hand away.
"You're defending your mother, aren't you?"
"Syd, I'm not defending her actions. I just..."
He suddenly stopped mid-sentence, unsure of what to say next.
"Just what?" Sydney pressed.Text © owned by NôvelDrama.Org.
"You're not in the right state to talk about this right now. After you recover from your wounds, I promise you, we'll find a way to settle this satisfactorily."
His pleading eyes made Sydney smile bitterly.
"How did you explain this to the Spencers? Did you tell them I was kidnapped and tortured?"
"No. If I did, they would have
desperately tried to find you. I told
swneve
them you were occupied with something that might take days. promised to visit them and tell them about what happened to you"
Sydney shut her eyes and sighed.
"Don't let the Spencers find out about what happened to me. When you visit them, tell them that I just wanted time alone, so I switched my phone off and disappeared."
She didn't know if Christopher was doing this to defend his mother or because he knew her. He knew she wouldn't want the Spencers to worry about her. Despite everything, she didn't want them to know about this.
After pondering for a moment, Christopher said, "I'll tell them that I took you away and make sure no news of this gets leaked, alright?"
Sydney nodded. "Okay, tell them that."
