Chapter 43
Chapter 43 The Stubborn Woman
Although Leah had refused Quentin's help, he didn't leave. Instead, he stood still and stared at her.
He was waiting for the moment when she couldn't bear the pain any longer and would beg him to take her to the hospital.
However, even after waiting for a while, Leah stubbornly endured the pain without seeking his assistance. She kept biting her lip, leaning against the door frame, even though the pain had almost made her faint.
"You..."
Quentin's brows were furrowed tightly. Just as he was about to approach Leah, he heard Layla's concerned voice.
"Miss Wilson? Miss Wilson, are you okay? Is there something wrong?"
Upon hearing Layla's voice, Leah finally relaxed.
"Hurry... take me to the hospital," Leah said weakly.
Layla rushed to Leah's side and supported her as she swayed on her feet.
"Miss Wilson, hang in there. I'll take you to the hospital right away."
Leah leaned on Layla and said, "Thank you."
With Layla's assistance, Leah was helped into an elevator.
Quentin, still standing in the office, watched as they left. Seeing Leah leaning against Layla, an inexplicable feeling surged up within him.
He was perplexed by Leah's refusal to seek help from him despite the obvious pain she was in. She would rather endure it and wait for someone else to help her.
"Does she really hate me that much?" Quentin thought, "She used to love me deeply. How could she become a whole different person after our divorce? Could it be that all her affection in the past was all fake?"
"Mr. Worthington, should we go and check on them?" Eli asked cautiously, noticing Quentin's troubled expression.
"No..." Quentin hesitated for a moment. He wasn't sure if he should go or not. However, after a brief internal struggle, he made up his mind. "Never mind. We should check on her."
Eli nodded. "Okay, Mr. Worthington."
An hour later, at Ocanni Hospital.
Leah had finished her examination and was sitting quietly on a hospital bed, waiting for the doctor to prescribe her medication.
During her waiting, Layla's phone had been ringing incessantly.
Leah turned to look at Layla and asked, "Whose call is that? Aren't you going to answer it?"
Layla appeared slightly embarrassed. "It's... my mom's."
Leah raised an eyebrow. "Do you have a bad relationship with your family? Why aren't you answering your mom's call?"
"Well..." Layla hesitated, unsure of how to respond. As the phone continued to ring, she finally said, "I'm sorry, Miss Wilson. I need to take this call."Content © copyrighted by NôvelDrama.Org.
Leah waved her hand. "It's okay. Go ahead."
Layla answered the call, and a sharp female voice immediately came through the line.
"You disobedient girl! It's been so long since the end of your work hours. Why haven't you come home to cook for us? Are you trying to starve us?"
Layla didn't want Leah to hear the
harsh words, so she quickly covered the microphone and whispered, "Mom, my boss is sick, and I'm at the hospital with her right now. Can't you order takeout for tonight?"
The woman on the other end of the
call didn't seem satisfied with Layla's response. "You only earn a meager monthly salary, and you want us to order takeout? We can't afford such extravagance! And you said your boss is sick and you need to be with her. It sounds like your boss is more important to you than your own family! Maybe you don't need to come home at all so that we can all just starve!"
Layla felt wronged, and tears welled up in her eyes.
"Mom, having one meal delivered won't cost that much. Why are you making such a big deal out of it?"
"You damn girl! Do you think you can
take control of everything since you now have a job? How dare you talk to me like that!" The woman soon began to howl, "I have worked, so hard to raise you, and now you don't even want to cook for me
"Okay, I will rush back as soon as possible to cook for you." Layla didn't want to listen to her mother's howling anymore and hung up the phone. Unexpectedly, as soon as she looked up, she met Leah's eyes.
"Miss... Miss Wilson."
