Chapter 44
Chapter 44 The Truth Came Out
Layla had thought that Leah might ask her about her family situation after overhearing her conversation with her mother.
However, Leah didn't inquire about it. Instead, she spoke gently, "It's getting late, you should go. It's my fault that you have to work overtime."Exclusive content from NôvelDrama.Org.
Layla quickly replied, "No... it's fine, Miss Wilson. Taking care of you is part of my job."
Leah smiled and said, "It's okay. You may leave."
Layla hesitated but finally asked, "But, Miss Wilson, if I leave, who will take care of you?"
"I've already asked a friend to come over. You can go back now. Don't worry," Leah assured her. During her medical examination earlier, Leah had messaged Janet, and she was likely on her way. Leah didn't want her family to know about her situation, so she hadn't informed them.
Layla wanted to stay and take care of Leah, but then her mother called again, so she had no choice but to leave.
"Then I'll be leaving, Miss Wilson. Rest well."
Leah nodded. "Go ahead."
Not long after Layla left, Janet arrived at the hospital.
Seeing Leah's fragile look, she frowned and asked, "What happened? How did you end up in the hospital?"
Leah was about to respond, but before she could, a nurse entered the room pushing a cart, and Quentin followed behind.
With a cold tone, Leah asked, "What are you doing here? Did you come to enjoy the sight of me in the hospital?"
Quentin raised an eyebrow. "Do you have delusional paranoia?"
Before Leah could say anything more, Janet intervened.
"Alright, let's not argue. Leah, give me your hand. The nurse needs to give you an IV, or you'll start feeling uncomfortable again." Leah complied, putting her arm on the edge of the bed for the nurse to insert the IV.
As the nurse worked, she advised,

"Miss, you have acute gastritis due to improper diet. When you go back, make sure not to eat anything spicy. You'd better adapt to something bland. Otherwise, your stomach pains will only get worse in the future."
Leah politely thanked the nurse, saying, "I understand. Thank you."
"You're welcome." The nurse finished her work and left the ward.
"I remember that before our divorce, every meal you cooked was full of spicy dishes. You knew your body couldn't handle it, yet you still ate a lot. And now, here you are. I guess you can only blame yourself Quentin said indifferently.
Leah twitched her lips. She was feeling unwell and didn't want to argue further. So, she turned aside and rested against her pillow.
Janet, on the other hand, couldn't hold back her anger any longer. She abruptly stood up from her chair.
"Quentin, how can you say such
heartless words to Leah when she's
in this condition? Do you know why she got gastritis? It's because your mother likes spicy food. Leah cooked dishes she didn't even like to please your mother and gain her approval, even though she can't handle anything spicy. She sacrificed so much for you. Yet, in the end, you think she deserves to suffer. You..."
Janet wanted to continue scolding Quentin, but Leah tugged at her sleeve and shook her head.
"Janet, what's in the past is in the past. Let's not dwell on it."
"But you suffered so unfairly for it. I can't just let it go," Janet pouted and replied with indignation.
Quentin hadn't expected the truth to be like this, and he couldn't believe the extent to which Leah had gone to accommodate him.
A hint of disbelief flickered in his eyes as he asked, "Leah, is what she said true?"
