Under the Heiress' Facade

Chapter 640

Chapter 640

"It's very likely someone was hiding in the cabinet of the crime scene. But the police deleted the witness

information when the case was finalized." Xavier stared at Hera. "Do you remember? We were playing hide-and- seek on the night of the incident."

Hera tried to recall. She often played hide-and-seek as a child. But she couldn't remember anything from the night of the incident! She only vaguely recalled that she came down with a high fever when Lucius was arrested.

That fever lasted for a week, and she lost most of her memory during it.

"It was you, me, and Uncle Lucius," Xavier recounted the night. "It was your turn to hide with Uncle Lucius, and I was the seeker. But halfway through, Marriott called me back.

"The place was occupied by my dad and the others when I returned. They told me to play somewhere else. I thought you both had already left, so I left too."

He pointed at the clip in the photo.

"This clip belongs to you. You were hiding here at the time. The shifted table legs and the marks by the cabinet door seem to be the result of a struggle." He zoomed in on the door handle.

The cabinet was made of wood, with a slot for the door. Upon zooming in, there were tiny visible marks as if a child had dug their nails into them.

"Do you remember where you were and what you were doing at the time of the incident?" Xavier asked.Belongs to (N)ôvel/Drama.Org.

Hera tried to recall, her head aching. A series of images flashed through her mind. The bloodstained knife, the face of the deceased, a young boy holding the knife, and a dark, dim room...

The images seemed familiar. They were the same ones that had surfaced in her mind during an outing with Bernard when he was helping her adjust to the dark. She had tried to get used to the darkness but couldn't fully accept it. Afterward, she never attempted it again.

Hera tried to dig deeper into her memory, but the pain in her head became unbearable. Apart from those few images, nothing else came to mind. Could she have lost her memory at some point?

"Are you okay?" Xavier asked with concern when he saw her clutching her head in pain.

Hera snapped out of it and shook her head. "I don't remember."

Xavier frowned, looking disappointed. This wasn't what he had expected. He had always believed that Hera would know who the murderer was...

"I can't remember what happened back then," Hera admitted.

Xavier grew flustered seeing her distress. "Don't worry. Take your time. Maybe we should stop and try another time."

Hera checked the time and understood his concern. They couldn't stay here too long and risk making Gemma suspicious.

"Alright," she agreed. "Give me a copy of the photos. I promise I won't leak them."

Xavier hesitated.

"I promise I'll help you find the killer," Hera reassured him.

After studying her for a while, Xavier finally agreed.

"Thank you." Hera transferred the photos to her USB drive and returned his phone.

Xavier cautiously put the phone back into the pouch, placed it inside the thermos container, and then put it away. Afterward, he took off his shoes and lay on the examination bed.

"You can just stick a few needles in me." He was committed to the act.

Hera obliged. She took his right hand and checked his pulse. Then, she took her acupuncture kit and poked his spleen and stomach.
