Meanwhile, Mackenzie’s hundred–strong Wolf Warrior Unit, led by the girl, continued heading northwest after leaving the Stone Forest. Their journey over the past day and night had been uneventful.

On the morning of the third day, the team approached a small mountain village. The girl guiding Quintus in the lead vehicle suddenly began to feel carsick.

“Hey, which way do we go next? We don’t need to enter the village, right?” Quintus asked bluntly.

The girl didn’t respond. Instead, she gently pressed her temples.

Focused on the road, Quintus didn’t notice her condition. When she didn’t reply, his impatience grew. “Lib, answer me!”

Earlier on the journey, they’d learned her name was Libby Goff. Quintus, unable or unwilling to remember, had opted to call her Lib, which was easier to recall.

“Hey!” Still receiving no reply, he turned back impatiently, only to find Libby–unaccustomed to traveling and affected by the bumpy mountain roads–vomiting out the window.

“Oh great, now she’s carsick?” Quintus, ever the impatient type, frowned even harder.

Mackenzie, following in the vehicle behind, noticed the situation and quickly ordered the team to stop.

“What happened?” she asked, her concern evident as she approached.

Quintus, still frowning, was about to explain when Libby immediately apologized. “I’m so sorry! I got carsick and threw up. I didn’t mean to cause any trouble!”

“You think?” Quintus grumbled. “This is such a pain. How can we reach the enemy’s base at this rate?”

Solana, equally impatient, leaned against the vehicle, her arms crossed and her face irritated.

Near tears from guilt, Libby quickly added, “Sir, if you take the left path here, you don’t have to worry about me. I’ll pull myself together and keep guiding you.”

Mackenzie touched her forehead and frowned. “You’ve got a slight fever. Wait a moment. I’ll get some medicine.”

The harsh mountain roads, with their significant temperature fluctuations, combined with days of inadequate food and water, had taken a toll on Libby’s weak constitution, leaving her vulnerable to illness.

“I’m fine, really. You’re on a tight schedule. Keep moving. I’m not that delicate,” Libby insisted.

“Mackenzie, if she says she’s fine, let’s move. We can’t hold up the entire team for one person,” Quintus shouted.

Mackenzie shot him a sharp glare. They were soldiers, but Libby wasn’t.

Still, Quintus had a point. They were racing against time to reach the enemy’s base, and every day of delay added uncertainty. The mission didn’t allow for hesitation.

“Haste makes waste!” Magnus smiled and added, “Although we have a guide, we still need more information about the Serpent King’s altar. Knowing our enemy is key to ensuring victory in battle, don’t you think?”

“What do you mean by that, Magnus?” Quintus immediately shouted.

Magnus patiently explained, “The allied forces have disbanded, and we’re left with just a hundred elite Wolf Warriors. Our opponents, however, are the Five Poison Sect, with thousands of members. If we enter their territory without adequate intelligence, it would be like walking into a death trap.”

Quintus, still confused, furrowed his brow. “Stopping will help us gather intelligence?”

Understanding Magnus‘ point, Mackenzie asked directly, “Are you suggesting that by stationing ourselves in the town ahead, we might encounter members of the Five Poison Sect?”

Magnus nodded confidently.

“Alright, we’ll station ourselves in the town ahead,” Mackenzie ordered. They had very little intelligence on the Five Poison Sect, and blindly charging in would be extremely dangerous.

Seeing that she had given the order, Quintus yelled at Magnus, “Are you just trying to curry favor with my sister and spend more time with her by suggesting we stop at the town?”

Magnus teased him, “You saw right through me! You’re quite clever, Quintus!”

Claudette’s face flushed slightly, her expression a little complicated.

Quintus threatened, “Alright. Since Mackenzie has given the order, I’ll follow it. But if we don’t encounter anyone from the Five Poison Sect, I’ll deal with you!”

“Quintus, you say that all the time. My ears are getting calluses from hearing it,” Magnus laughed casually and then turned to Claudette. “Princess Claudette, let’s get back in the car.

Claudette nodded but then walked over to Libby, gently taking her hand. “You don’t need to guide us right now. Ride in my car. Don’t mind my brother, the big brute.”

Libby hesitated, glancing back at Quintus.

Quintus shouted, “Hey, I’m your brother! Even you are belittling me? That hurts my feelings!”

With Claudette’s care, Libby’s motion sickness symptoms eased a bit.

Hattie and Magnus, both in the same SUV with Claudette, noticed that Magnus kept gazing at Claudette.

Magnus‘ deep affection might not be reciprocated after all.

Soon, the team arrived in the town. The town was large with a significant population and defense force. Even common bandit groups wouldn’t dare cause trouble.

Upon entering the town, they expected it to be difficult but the guards at the gate recognized Mackenzie and admired her deeds, treating her with great respect.

“Ms. Quillen, we warmly welcome you to Stonvale. We belong to Riverhaven, and we have security forces and firearms. Not just bandits, even the Five Poison Sect wouldn’t dare enter!” the guard proudly said to Mackenzie.

Hearing this, Quintus couldn’t help but laugh. “Haha, I believe you! But if the Five Poison Sect can’t get in, I’ll have to deal with someone abusing his power for personal gain!”

With that, he deliberately glanced back at Magnus.
