“Hey, I’m not afraid of being tough, just afraid of not being tough enough!” Quintus waved his hand and laughed heartily.

He was simple–minded and spoke without ulterior motives, but others didn’t interpret his words that way. Especially not the women he had just rescued. Having endured a living nightmare, they were susceptible to such remarks. Upon hearing him, one of the younger women blushed deeply..

“For us real men, the tougher, the better! Haha.” Oblivious to the implications of his words, Quintus continued to shout excitedly.

It wasn’t until Mackenzie frowned and scolded him, “Enough! Stop with the nonsense–there are women here listening!”

“What nonsense? I just like—”

“Quin!” Even Claudette couldn’t bear it anymore and interrupted him.

Quintus, clueless as ever, failed to understand the strange looks everyone was giving him.

“When you say things like that, people might think you’re making inappropriate jokes!” Claudette explained, trying to spare him further embarrassment.

“Jokes?” Quintus finally caught on and protested loudly. “Oh, come on! We’re in the middle of a war! Who even has time to think about that nonsense?”

“Those Five Poison Sect scum and the bandits we just dealt with definitely had time for that nonsense,” Solana teased, fully aware of his straightforward nature. “Are you the one who’s abnormal?”

“You’re the abnormal one! Your whole family is abnormal!” Quintus snapped back, crossing his arms. “All I meant was that we should strike at the heart, take down the Five Poison Sect as fast as possible. Fighting those small–time bandits was barely satisfying!”

Finally, Quintus clarified his meaning.

“Don’t worry, the big players will show up soon,” Magnus said confidently, adjusting his glasses. “We’ll set this place on fire and leave provocative messages on the walls. The Five Poison Sect will come looking for us, and we’ll track them back to their base.”

“Perfect! Let’s do it!” Quintus, increasingly trusting Magrius‘ strategies, was entirely on board.

“You all should leave now. I’m about to start the fire,” Quintus told the women they had rescued, waving them off.

Some women hurriedly left alone, but most lingered, exchanging uncertain glances.

“Why aren’t you leaving? If you stay, you might get burned!” Quintus asked, puzzled.

Mackenzie gestured for him to be quiet and approached the women. “Do you not know the way home?” she asked gently.

The women nodded silently.

“Then let us arrange for your safe return!” Mackenzie said warmly, carning tearful gratitude from the

Women.

“Um…” One of the younger girls hesitated before mustering the courage to approach Quintus. “Sir, are you looking for the Five Poison Sect’s headquarters? I might be able to help.”

“You can help?”

Everyone turned to look at her in surprise.

Quintus grabbed her frail shoulder eagerly. “Do you know where their headquarters is?”

“I don’t know about the headquarters,” she admitted, biting her lip, “but Lknow where the Serpent King’s sacrificial altar is. It could be their base.”

Quintus immediately turned to Mackenzie, awaiting her judgment.

Mackenzie stepped forward, gently taking the girl’s hand. “Really? How do you know this?” she asked softly.

The girl pressed her lips together, battling the fear that gripped her. With a deep breath, she explained in one go, “Last year, my sister was captured by the Five Poison Sect and sacrificed to the Serpent King. My family tried to rescue her and helped her plant a tracking device on her body.” Her voice faltered as tears began to flow.

The conclusion was obvious..

Mackenzie listened patiently, her expression filled with empathy. But, growing impatient, Quintus blurted out, “Oh, come on! Are you going to finish or not? You’re killing me here! If you don’t want to talk, move aside!”

“I’ll talk!” Rather than being intimidated, the girl wiped her tears and strengthened her resolve. “Later, my parents and I led a rescue team to save her, but the entire team, including my parents, were killed. I survived by hiding behind them and escaping. That’s how I know where the Serpent King’s altar is. If you’re willing to go, I’ll lead you there!”

“See? Was that so hard? Why drag it out?” Quintus muttered, still oblivious to the need for tact. Then, turning to Mackenzie, he said enthusiastically, “Shall we head out now? I’ll lead the charge–you follow behind me!”

Mackenzie rolled her eyes. “Of course, we’re going! But she’s just a child–can’t you show some kindness?

“But-” Quintus scratched his head. “She’s not my lover or my sister. Why would I be gentle with her?”

Mackenzie ignored him, turned to the girl, and reassured her, “Don’t mind that brute.” She then began arranging their next steps.

The girl, meanwhile, kept glancing at Quintus, finding his bluntness oddly endearing rather than crude.

In the Five Poison Sect’s stronghold, news of the attack on the stone forest quickly reached the Toad King’s base, where the Great Four Envoys were hiding.

“Aora, it seems Mackenzie is finally leading her team into Five Poison Sect territory,” Amethyst said, her

voice deenth anticipation. She had been nursing her wounds for over ten days and had been

consumed by thoughts of revenge.

“Exactly! Ken is utterly unreliable,” Aora sneered. “That two–faced opportunist probably started considering joining Mackenzie the moment we lost.”

“Aora, we don’t need him anymore!” Amethyst hissed. Let’s negotiate with the Toad King. Once Mackenzie enters the Serpent King’s territory, we’ll cut off their retreat and attack from both sides!

“No!” Aora dismissed the idea with a wave of his hand. “The Five Poison Sect has never been united. With the Matriarch gone for years, they’re nothing more than a bunch of rivals. The Toad King would never cooperate with the Serpent King.”

“Then what should we do?” Amethyst asked anxiously.

“Don’t worry.” Aora chuckled cunningly. “The Five Poison Sect is notorious for holding grudges. Last time, the Toad King’s forces were devastated by Mackenzie at Ken’s estate, and he hasn’t forgotten that.”

“I’ll provoke him to set up an ambush near the Serpent King’s territory. Once Mackenzie and the Serpent King fight until both sides are weakened, we’ll swoop in and eliminate both forces. Then, we can take over both territories ourselves. The Toad King will love this plan.”

The other envoys agreed it was a clever scheme but believed directly targeting Mackenzie was the better approach.

Unfortunately, as guests of the Five Poison Sect, they had no authority. All they could do was stoke the flames and manipulate the chaos to their advantage.
