Chapter 2
“You need a fruit bread, huh?” Vanessa referred to him.
He nodded, “Yeah! Make it three and tell me the amount including the cupcake.”
She giggled, “You don’t need to pay for the cupcake, it’s a waste.”
“And it’s your loss. Get Chloe one of the cupcakes, and tell me the total amount of the two cupcakes and three breadfruits.” he stated vividly to her hearing.
She nodded and left to get it all. Within seconds, she was back with the items well packaged. She handed it over to Chloe who had already stretched her hand to have it.
“Thank you so much, ma’am Vanessa. I love your cupcakes.” little Chloe commented cheerfully.
She smiled at her, “Thank you too sweetheart, I love you.”
“I love you too.” she replied.
For the time since he met Vanessa, he smiled while staring at the two. He loved the communication going on between them.
“She’s my last daughter, and I’m her father. Nice meeting you dear, I’m Mr Xavier Brown.” he declared while getting on his feet.
Vanessa chuckled, “Nice meeting you too, Sir Xavier. Uhmmm! I’m Miss Vanessa and this is my bakery shop. Thank you for patronizing me”.
He shuddered, ” Thank you for being nice to my little daughter too. I can see she loves you so much already.”
She nodded and waved them a goodbye while watching them leave her bakery. Lots of smiles filled her face.
She wouldn’t believe a role model like him would step into her bakery for order. That’s rare in New York.
Famous people like him are found far away from the lower class, they’re kind of rude too. Meanwhile, that’s what she had expected from him when the cakes spilled on his shirt.
She had waited for thunderous and aggressive words from him, or rather, his guards treating her like a mess.
But that’s all opposite. He’s walking alone without guards and is cheerful.
It might be to her alone, but she doesn’t feel like thinking about it now.
A wide smile affixed on her face as she thought of all these, that he couldn’t notice the presence of a man opposite her.
“It’s enough Nessa, get back to reality and get me my order,” the commanding voice of a masculine drew her out of her thoughts.
She quivered and blinked several times. He’s here again, her childhood friend who doesn’t stop making jest of her.
This dude is good at uttering gibberish words to her, she doesn’t have time for it this time anyways.
“Now tell me what you want, I’ll get it for you, you’ll pay me and leave my bakery instantly.” she spoke out of annoyance.
Sounds of laughter echoed in her ears. She noticed he’s the one turning her sentences to an act of joke.
“Must you always invent something that will never come into reality, Vanessa. The young man you’re staring at and smiling is married with kids.” he narrated.
She pinched his cheek, ” I see, a psychologist that quotes everything wrong. How sure are you that I’m thinking about him ? What do I have to do with his marital status?”
“You know what, he will never get attracted to a low class citizen like you, so get him off your mind.” he concluded.
“So what do you want now?” Nessa questioned him.
He knitted his eyebrows, “Uhmmm! Get me cookies, and be fast about it”.
“Jerk…” she referred to him and left to get him his order.
“Soon, I’ll be done for today.” she commented.
He snapped at her face after he was about to leave, “Because of the married man you entangled yourself with huh?”
“No! I have some other things to do. Besides, you have nothing to do with my matters.” Nessa remarked.
She watched him leave without taking a glance backwards. This dude can stress someone a lot.
***************
“Now tell me, Dad. Why were you staring at Ma’am Vanessa like you met a stranger?” Chloe questioned her father.
Xavier cuddled her while busy with his cellphone. He didn’t mind giving an answer to that question.
She lifted her face to look at her father who was lost in thought despite him scrolling through his cellphone.
She tapped his cheek, “You aren’t answering my question, hope everything is okay with you. Dad, you seem to be haunted.”Content is property of NôvelDrama.Org.
He smiled at her, “You don’t need to worry dear, I’m okay. Just busy with my manager, we have a lot to discuss.”
“Do you love the fruit bread?” She referred and got seated on her own.
Her eyes couldn’t get off her father as she relished the taste of her cupcake.
“I love it. It tastes nice.” he commented.
“Really? I’ll love to get mine too, dad. You didn’t bother to get us ours.” a female voice sounded from behind.
Chloe turned her neck to see that it’s her elder sister, Tracy. She jumped from the sofa and headed towards the direction she stood.
“Come take yours.” she declared and moved ahead with her.
“Dad…” Tracy called him out again.
He raised his eyebrows, “Take the fruit bread and give the other to your brother.” he ordered her and left upstairs to his room.
At this point, he doesn’t need a distraction, he needs to take a big rest before setting up for work the next day.
He twitched into his room and laid on the bed recalling the incident that occurred some minutes ago.
The cakes that spilled on his shirt, he couldn’t believe a word wasn’t out of his lips for minutes.
Ouch! That’s unusual of him though. He is that CEO who acts curtly to his workers. He doesn’t take trash from a soul no matter the level you are.
Not even the beauty of a woman can pull him down. He is Xavier Brown, the CEO of Brown’s cooperation.
One thing he doesn’t do is to owe his workers, or treat the lower class citizens like a bin. But you must work according to his order.
He rumbled the bed cover still in thought. He wouldn’t believe a woman will stain his shirt and he’ll keep calm to it, not even his girlfriend will step on his feet and go Scot free.
But the lady he just met is a weakness to his soul. She’s absolutely his weak point.
Her beauty can turn the president of a country to a slave. Her loyalty can suppress the strength and anger of a warrior.
She has that spell that binds every human to a changed person when with her.
Damnit! Vanessa can never take a place in his heart.
He has a girlfriend already, and will never be entangled with anyone else. The loss of his wife has done more harm to him than good.
But he bets that Nessa is far better than her girlfriend. Even at that, he will get his mind off her and move ahead with his recent girlfriend.
