Spencer let out a relieved sigh as the car came to a stop outside the hospital. Nelly, despite her young age, had a reckless driving style that was in complete contrast to her character. As he stepped out of the car, Spencer couldn’t help but sneak a glance at her.
“Nelly, I hate to nag, but as a girl, it would be better for you to be gentle,” he said. Nelly narrowed her eyes at him. “Gentle?” “Yes,” Spencer nodded. “Men are attracted to gentle women. Aren’t you afraid that Alpha Kilian will stop liking you if you keep this up?” Nelly furrowed her brows.
“He already disliked me once. What should I be afraid of now?” she replied, rolling her eyes at Spencer. “I have a suggestion for you too.” “What is it?” Spencer asked. “Man up.” Spencer felt humiliated and sharply inhaled. When he saw Nelly getting out of the car, he quickly followed suit.
“Nelly, I’m only saying this for your sake, but what about you?” he questioned. “Mhm, I’m saying it for your sake too,” Nelly replied. “You-” Spencer was about to say something else, but when he looked up, he frowned upon seeing the hospital. “Why are you taking me to the hospital?”
“For a checkup,” Nelly said, walking into the building. “A checkup?” Spencer’s frown deepened as he glanced at Nelly’s back.
“What kind of illness do you have that I can’t diagnose for you? Did you really have to bring me to the hospital?” Despite his rambling, Spencer followed closely behind Nelly. They soon arrived outside a ward where a nurse happened to come out. The nurse was startled when she saw them.
“You’re…” the nurse began, shock flashing through her eyes. Nelly was already beautiful, but the man beside her was simply divine. “I’m here to visit someone,” Nelly told the nurse. “Oh, you’re family, right?” the nurse smiled. Nelly neither agreed nor disagreed. “My, she’s already in this state, and you’re still here to visit her. I knew it; pretty people simply have kind hearts,” the nurse commented, turning back to them. “Go on ahead.”
“Thank you,” Nelly said, and the nurse flushed before hurrying away. Spencer gazed at her and smiled politely. “Thank you,” he said, stealing her soul with his smile. The nurse blushed and quickly ran off, clutching the patient’s medical records. “Did you see that? I’m as charming as ever…” Spencer remarked, before realizing that no one was there. He turned and realized Nelly had already entered the ward.
“You simply don’t appreciate me,” Spencer muttered as he entered. Inside the ward, Erin lay on the bed, still bandaged and wounded. Nelly looked at her calmly, and Spencer only realized something as he got closer to the bed.
“Isn’t this the woman from that day?” Nelly nodded. “You brought me here for a checkup?” Spencer asked, confused. “She had an accident when Desmond was trying to send her out of the country. He used that incident to vent his frustration on Alpha Kilian,” Nelly explained. “And?” Spencer prompted.
“I don’t think things are that simple,” Nelly continued. “You mean…” Nelly nodded. After a moment of contemplation, Spencer said, “Alpha Kilian’s matter has nothing to do with me, so I’m not going to get involved.” He turned to leave, but Nelly grabbed him from behind. “Alpha Kilian is involved with you, not me, so why should I help him?” Spencer yelped. “This happened because of me, so I have to do something about this,” Nelly told him.
“Then do it yourself,” Spencer replied. Nelly went silent for a moment. “Okay. In that case, you can leave,” she said, letting go of him. Spencer stiffened, surprised by her easy agreement. He turned to look at her. “Really?” “Yes,” Nelly nodded. Still, Spencer didn’t quite believe that she would let him go so easily.
“Are you sure?” he asked again. Nelly nodded once more, causing Spencer to become more unsure. He wanted to leave, but he couldn’t find the courage to do so. In the end, he couldn’t help but ask, “Tell me what you’re going to do next.”
Nelly smiled at him in silence, sending chills down his spine. He thought, This woman is the devil! She may look harmless, but I can never predict what she’ll do next! “Forget it! I’ll just check her up,” Spencer said, turning to walk towards Erin’s bed. Nelly continued to watch him quietly. After a moment, Spencer said, “She’s already in a vegetative state, so what’s there to check up about?”
“Does she really have no chance of waking up anymore?” Nelly asked. “What’s the point of waking up? Even if she does, she’ll be paralyzed and unable to move. She’ll only be able to speak,” Spencer replied.
“If that’s how she’s going to live, she might as well die. Who can bear a life like that?” Nelly narrowed her eyes and said, “That’ll be enough.” Spencer frowned. “So what you want is for her to speak the truth? Have you ever considered that the truth may not be what you think?”
“That’s my concern. Just tell me if you’re confident in waking her up or not,” Nelly replied. As Spencer turned back to the woman on the bed, his eyes became solemn.
After pursing his lips, he muttered, “Eighty percent.” “So that’s a yes?” Nelly smiled. “If you had brought me here within the golden seventy-two hours, the chances would be even higher.” Nelly nodded. “I did. So go ahead.” “Now?” Spencer asked, and Nelly nodded again.
Spencer turned to make sure she wasn’t joking before nodding himself. “Okay.” He took out a black fabric bag and opened it to reveal numerous needles. Instantly, Spencer dropped his nonchalant demeanor and became solemn. Nelly looked at him and asked, “How long do you need?”
“Ten minutes.” “Okay.” Nelly glanced at the time. “I’ll buy you some time.” With that, she turned and left to guard the room. Spencer didn’t even look at her.Exclusive content © by Nô(v)el/Dr/ama.Org.
