Chapter 17 Apologize to Me
"You..."
Taylor was about to speak but was interrupted by Quentin, "Mom, please let me handle this."
"Hmm!" Taylor snorted disdainfully, glared at Leah, and moved to stand beside Quentin.
Quentin stepped forward, gazing at Leah, and spoke solemnly, "Grandma's condition has worsened, and we need to bring in Doctor Brody for treatment."
Upon hearing this, Leah's heart skipped a beat, and her previously stern expression had softened slightly.
In the Worthington family, Debra was the only one who had truly been kind to her.
Regardless of how Quentin and Taylor had treated her, now that Debra was gravely ill, she felt obliged to help in some way.
She asked, "How is Madam Worthington..."
Quentin handed her a check before she could finish her sentence, saying, "Here are five million dollars. Once you bring Doctor Brody in and he successfully treats my grandma, I will give you another five million dollars."
It felt like an insult for her, a deep one.
Leah thought, "Is this how Quentin sees me? A heartless woman who can be easily swayed by money? How blind I have been back then to fall for such a scumbag? I even poured my heart and soul into this relationship for so many years. Even I found myself ridiculous."
Leah leaned against the door frame, smirking as she coldly said, "I have already lived here, do you really think I still need your ten million dollars?"
After she finished speaking, Taylor quickly sneered, "Who knows what tricks you used to get in here? Shameless!"
Hearing Taylor's words, Leah didn't get angry but instead laughed mockingly.Text property © Nôvel(D)ra/ma.Org.
"I don't think you're sincere about asking for my help. It seems you'd rather shun me away," she said, raising an eyebrow as she glanced at Quentin. "What do you think?"
Seeing her nonchalant attitude, Quentin's furrowed brows deepened. "Leah, Grandma's condition is critical. Please don't delay any longer. You need to get Doctor Brody here now."
Leah sneered dismissively, "Who do you think you are to order me? Why should I bring him just because you told me to?"
A shadow then crossed Quentin's eyes. "Why? Is the money not enough? Tell me, how much do you want?"
Leah stared into his eyes and coldly replied, "I have already told you I don't need money!"
Taylor, standing nearby, taunted.
"Stop pretending. Just say it, how much money do you want? But you better not try to take advantage the situation and ask for an
unreasonable price. We won't give it
if you do."
"I don't want money," Leah replied and crossed her arms, her tone devoid of emotion.
Her indifferent attitude only fueled
Taylor's anger, who then pointed at
Leah and scolded her, "We've already offered you money. What more do you want? When you were with our family, Madam Worthington treated you so well. She always had your best interests in mind and even asked us to go easy on you. But now, when Madam Worthington needs help, you behave
outrageously and ungratefully. Aren't
you afraid this will come back to haunt you?"
Leah simply watched Taylor without uttering a word.
Taylor continued her tirade, saying, "I knew it. People like you are nothing but a curse, a jinx. Madam
Worthington insisted on Quentinnet
marrying you against all odds, fit weren't for you, Quentin would
have..."
As Taylor was about to bring up past grievances again, Quentin interrupted with his furrowed brows, "Mom, please stop."
He then turned to Leah and asked, "What do you want, Leah? What will it take for you to help?"
Leah remained silent for a few seconds and then pointed her finger at Taylor. "I want your mother to apologize to me. I don't want a single cent."
