Chapter 583 Love Can Change a Person
Chapter 583 Love Can Change a Person
"I'm fine. Just relax, all of you." Leigh reassured them with a smile despite the pain she was in. "It's just a flesh wound, no broken bones or injuries to the organs. Don't worry, I won't die or be crippled."
Sebastian, along with Grayson, Kieran, and their group of childhood friends, as well as Martin, Edmund, and several employees from Oasis Law Office, arrived only a few seconds after Madeline did. Upon seeing Leigh injured, Grayson stepped forward to check on her injury.
After confirming that Leigh was out of danger, Edmund and the others asked in which direction the assassin had fled before chasing after them. They were furious. Someone actually dared to hurt a member of the Oasis Law Office while they were here! No one would have the audacity to do such a thing in Worrick. It seemed that the fame of Oasis Law Office hadn't spread far and wide enough in Dusktown. In that case, they would make a name for the Oasis Law Office today, letting anyone who dared to threaten them with weapons know that those from the Oasis Law Office were untouchable. Whoever dared to lay a finger on them would die!
After checking on Leigh's condition, Grayson reassured everyone, saying, "It's just a flesh wound. It needs stitches, but it's not life-threatening danger, so don't worry." Then, he had someone fetch the medical kit to stop Leigh's bleeding first, saying, "I don't have any suturing instruments, so she still has to go to the hospital."
Madeline replied, "I'll go with her to the hospital."
"Count me in," Lucas chimed in. He said to Sebastian, "Seb, can you take care of our friends for me?"
Andrew said, "There's no need for such formalities. We're buddies, aren't we?"
"That's right," Jesse agreed. "We've heard about what happened and will see who it is that's got the nerve to make an attempt on your lives. Whoever it is, they'll have to answer to us." Belongs to NôvelDrama.Org - All rights reserved.
"Exactly," Kyle chimed in. "If anyone dares to hurt one of us, they're not taking us seriously. Please rest assured and go with Dr. Shefford to get her wound treated. Whoever it was who wounded her, we promise we'll make them pay for it with their own blood."
Lucas nodded. "Thanks, guys. Let's meet again another day."
Grayson quickly treated Leigh's wound before taking her to the hospital with Lucas and Madeline. He stitched up her wound himself.
Lucas couldn't bear to watch as Grayson stitched up Leigh's wound, but he forced himself to look at it. The assassin's knife was aimed at him; he was miles away at the time and didn't notice, but she noticed it and pushed him away. The knife was aimed at his heart, and he was taller than her, so it ended up piercing her shoulder.
Leigh wasn't lying. Indeed, the wound didn't damage her internal organs or pose any life-threatening danger. Still, the knife cut her shoulder in half like slicing meat. Had it had a wider blade or cut deeper, she would have lost this arm of hers. If her luck had been worse, she might have been killed. Aren't girls supposed to be faint-hearted? But when Leigh saw someone trying to stab me with a knife, her first reaction was to save me instead of running away. There's actually a girl in this world who risked her own life to protect me. So, now, do I still need to consider taking our relationship seriously or breaking up? No, not anymore.
Even though he resisted the idea of marriage, he couldn't resist Leigh, who kept drawing him closer to
her like a bright and warm fire. He used to be confused, hesitant, and indecisive in the past because he felt uncertain about the idea of suddenly changing the predetermined direction and pattern of his life. He was afraid that he couldn't be a good husband and father and would hold her back.
But now, he didn't think so anymore. I can't lose her. That was the only thought that came to his mind when he saw Leigh's bloodless face and the blood-stained half of her body. Leigh can't die. I can't lose her. If I can't accept her death, can I accept breaking up with her and watching her throw herself into another man's arms in the future? No, I can't. I can't do it. I should stop being a jerk. I can't string her along anymore. My father and I are two separate entities; just because he isn't a real man doesn't mean that I'm not. I was raised by Seb, who is my hero and the doctrine I live by. If he could be good husband and father, why couldn't I? If he could bring happiness to his wife and children, surely I could do the same in the future. Squatting in front of Leigh, he buried his face in her palm, his body trembling uncontrollably.
Leigh kept comforting him, saying, "It's nothing, I'm fine. Stop doing this, okay? You're a real man, you know. If you keep acting like this, I'll laugh at you."
Lucas was speechless. It was indeed embarrassing, but how could he help it when he couldn't control himself? Just the thought of her almost losing her life while he kept hesitating without confirming their relationship to the public made him want to slap himself hard in regret.
Seeing how worried he was, Grayson couldn't bear to watch it anymore. He comforted him, saying, "Dr. Shefford is fine, really. It's just a flesh wound that'll heal in half a month. Don't worry too much about it.
Lucas took a deep breath, let go of Leigh's hand, and stood up. "I'm fine." Despite him saying so, his legs were trembling, and his eyes were very red.
Leigh wanted to tease him out of habit, but when she saw him like this, she felt sorry for him and couldn't bring herself to do so. She held his hand and shook it gently, saying in a soft voice, "Come on, it's alright. I'm fine, ain't I? I can talk and laugh and jump… Or should I jump a few times for you to take a look?"
Madeline was speechless. I've only heard of how even someone with a headstrong and unyielding personality could be meek and gentle toward the person they love, and now I'm seeing it with my own eyes. Dr. Shefford, an uncompromising badass at Oasis Law Office, actually has the sweet and coquettish side of a little girl. This is really an eye-opener. Perhaps this is… how love can change a person.
Although Leigh was injured, Madeline was genuinely happy for her. To have someone in this world whom she loves and cares so much about, she must be filled with joy and happiness. How wonderful.
Lucas smiled wryly and placed his hand on Leigh's shoulder. "Stop monkeying around. What are you jumping for? Now that you're wounded, you should take care of it." Dr. Shefford, you simply have the ability to instantly dispel my sorrow and melancholy with just a few words.
After Leigh's wound was stitched up and bandaged, Grayson said, "There's no need to get hospitalized. Just go back and rest well. I don't have to remind you of the dos and don'ts, right, Dr. Shefford—"
"Grayson, you'd better remind her." Lucas looked at him eagerly.
Grayson was rendered speechless before he explained the dos and don'ts.
Lucas nodded. "Okay, I'll keep them in mind." He held Leigh's hand. "You also have to remember not to
act recklessly just because you're a doctor, alright?
Leigh giggled. "Is that how you define recklessness?"
Lucas was lost for words. Dr. Shefford, do you realize that you almost got killed just now? Is it really all right for you to be laughing so happily?
Leigh looked at her bandaged arm and asked Grayson, "Can we go now?"
Grayson nodded. "Yeah, you can." He turned to look at Lucas. "You escort Dr. Shefford home. I'll go check out the clubhouse." He didn't show it on his face, but he was actually holding a lot of anger inside.
