Chapter 6 You Let Me Down
Chapter 6 You Let Me Down
"Ben..."
Amber held Ben’s arm with her fair hands, and she asked, with her voice as sweet as candies, “Is she
going to lose the baby?”
That grating question immediately provoked Winifred.
“Amber, what did you say?" NôvelDrama.Org owns this.
Amber panicked, and hurriedly explained, “Mrs. Crawford, don't take this the wrong way, I’m just telling
the truth. After all, Claudia has been pregnant for so long. If she’s seriously injured, she may lose the
baby."
Her voice was gentle, but there was a touch of gloat in it.
Although Amber pretended to be naive and simple, Winifred could easily see her through.
“Don't talk nonsense. Claudia is pregnant with the child of the Crawford family, and the child will
become the heir. I'll kick out of here if you dare say that one more time!” Winifred shouted angrily
because she was in such a bad mood.
Amber didn't dare provoke her again. She pretended to be wronged and pulled Ben's arm, saying,
"Ben, I didn’t mean it. Mrs. Crawford, please calm down.”
In Ben’s eyes, Amber was too to be blamed.
He finally replied, "Just stop talking."
Just by then, the doctor came out of the ER and took off her mask. “It’s nothing serious, but she had
been frightened, resulting in contraction. Before the due date, you shall make sure that she's
emotionally stable.”
Winifred sighed with relief, “Thank god, my grandson is fine!”
The doctor looked at Ben and hesitated.
She wanted to say something but stopped on second thought.
Ben noticed her and asked coldly, “Anything else?”
"Well, Mr. Crawford..." The doctor blushed a bit and said, “Women can be very vulnerable during
pregnancy, so you’d better call off your sexual intercourse for a while before the baby is born!”
“...”
Ben was immediately sullen.
Winifred’s face froze and then she let out a deep sigh.
After the doctor left, she said to Ben, “Although you are a couple, you need to be patient for a while.
The child matters most now!”
“...”
Ben’s face seemed gloomy. Other people could easily tell that he wasn’t in a very good mood now.
Amber’s eyes rolled. She felt sick when she thought of Ben having sex with that little bitch, Claudia!
After a while, Winifred looked at Amber, and suddenly asked her, “Where were you when Claudia had
the accident?”
“Me?”
Amber was shocked. A scene crossed her mind. She felt a bit scared.
Winifred noticed her micro expression and continued, “You and Claudia have always been at odds, but
you couldn’t wait to come here this time after her accident. Who told you to come here?”
“Well...”
“No one else knew this except for the Crawford Family. Amber, did you...”
Before Winifred's sentence was finished, Amber stopped her in fear and hurriedly explained, "Mrs.
Crawford, you misunderstood! I'm just worried about Claudia!"
She said with her soft little hands pulling Ben’s arms, "Ben, help me out. You know I won't hurt Claudia,
right?"
She spoke gently and looked pitiful, looking like a vulnerable flower with tender petals that men would
kill to protect.
“Enough!” Ben's voice was low and imposing, “Stop it, both of you!”
Then he told Nate to send Winifred back to rest. Before she left, Winifred was still confused and
whispered a few words to Nate.
The sensation of being illuminated by the dazzling high beam came into Claudia’s mind again. She
opened her eyes, soaked in cold sweats.
Everything was pure white, with a strong smell of disinfectant.
She caressed her lower abdomen in a panic, and an icy male voice came,
“Your baby is fine.”
Claudia was relieved. She saw Ben standing on the side of her bed. As handsome as his face was, it
was chilling because it was expressionless.
“Your idea to keep this child, and your duty to keep it safe.”
Ben said with cold eyes, like a sharp knife stabbing her heart.
Suddenly, he leaned over and squeezed her pointed chin, “Don't break your promise. If anything bad
happens to the baby, you will share the pain!”
Then he snitched her aside. Claudia struggled to look up, only to see him leaving.
The view of his back looked so distant.
"Ben, how is Claudia?" Amber asked.
He answered, “She’ll be fine.”
The conversation tore Claudia’s heart into pieces.
“Let's grab something to eat! I'm hungry!” Amber smiled and took Ben’s arm. Then they walked out.
Nate came downstairs, with a document in his hand. He looked at Ben with a hint in his eyes.
“Mr. Crawford, this is the surveillance video from the camera at the back door of the hotel. The license
plate number of the car is in it. Take a look.”
Ben opened the screenshots. Upon seeing the content, he was instantly angry.
“Ben, what's wrong?" Amber tilted her head in wonder. She was stunned when she saw the contents of
the file!
She rolled her eyes in a panic, and hurriedly argued, "No, it wasn’t me! I didn’t run her over!"
She was so flustered that she stammered. Her voice was trembling.
Ben's remained grim. There was no drastic change on it, but Amber didn’t even dare look at him in the
eyes.
She felt as if the temperature had dropped sharply. She held his hand and begged nervously, "Ben, you
have to trust me...”
“Shut up!”
Ben snitched her hand sneered coldly like a provoked devil, "You are really smart. How did you know
that somebody hit her? We didn’t mention it."
Amber was shocked and realized that she was so anxious that she misspoke.
“Ben..."
Before she finished her word, she was interrupted by him,
“Shut up!"
Ben threw the document at her and stepped away from her decisively.
Amber froze there. She wanted to stop him, but she didn't have the courage.
Resentment was gathering in her heart as she gritted her teeth fiercely. She stepped towards the ward,
only to be overtaken by Nate on halfway.
“Miss Evans, I wouldn’t do that if I were you.” Nate warned her.
Amber shouted, “Who are you to tell me what to do! Get out of my way!”
“I'm nobody, but I will make sure you don't disturb Mrs. Crawford while she’s having a rest." Nate said.
After a pause, he added, "This is Mr. Crawford’s order.”
“What? I...”
Amber felt a bit dizzy. Her mind went blank.
She staggered on her feet helplessly, feeling so wronged! She ended up so miserable for having done
nothing.
In the ward, Claudia frowned when she heard the quarrel outside.
Nate knocked on the door. Then he came in and greeted her, "Mr. Crawford hopes you rest well and
keep your baby safe. Don't overthink about it."
“Anything else?”
Claudia asked. Then she saw a woman next to Nate, who was smiling and waving hands.
