Chapter 920
Chapter 920 Emelie and William's Daily Life During Pregnancy
When Emelie was eight months pregnant, she and William returned from Mercianna to Capebatt City to await the birth. They wanted their baby to be born in Cedonia and have Cedonian citizenship.
William originally planned to arrange a private jet for the trip, considering how far along she was and how much more comfortable it would be to fly in their own plane for such a long journey.
However, when they applied for a flight route, they ran into some kind of situation in Faldoria. Aerial restrictions were in place, making it hard to get the approval.
Emelie shrugged it off. Her pregnancy symptoms weren't too bad, and flying first class on a commercial flight would be just fine.
As fate would have it, on the flight, they ran into someone who was a sort of familiar stranger-Elena.
She was a familiar stranger because they hadn't seen or heard anything about her for years, and Emelie had almost forgotten her.
However, they knew each other from back in the day when Elena had played quite a role during the lukewarm phase of Emelie and William's relationship.
They bumped into each other in the plane's dining area. Elena's gaze fell immediately on Emelie's belly, her expression dazed for a moment before she quickly lowered her head, as if hoping they wouldn't notice her. Emelie had no intention of greeting her. She simply pretended not to see her and sat down with William at their table.
As William ordered their meal, Emelie sipped her lemon water, a rather frightening expression on her face.
William wiped her utensils with a wet napkin and said gently, "Angel, don't look at me like that. You're scaring me.
At this point, most of William's attention was focused on Emelie. He knew her so well that just a glance from her could tell him what she was thinking.
He reassured her softly, "I swear, I never had any relationship with Elena."
Emelie took her time to respond. "I'm not accusing you of having anything with her. I just remembered that time she staged a whole fake kidnapping to frame me, which sparked a massive wave of online abuse. I even received packages with blood in them.
"Tell me, were those packages really sent by crazy netizens? Or did someone else plan it, hoping to speed up my falling into their arms?"
William was momentarily stunned, then quickly denied it. "How could I do something so despicable? I'll admit, I did pull some strings during that whole mess, but it was just to deal with those thugs. The cyberbullying and those packages, none of that was me. You can't pin that on me. It'd break my heart."
Emelie propped her chin on her hand. Back then, she really had dumped all the blame on him for everything.
That was just how she was. When she loved, she loved with all her heart, and when she hated, it was with everything she had.
Since she was dredging up old memories, she figured she might as well air all her grievances.
"What about the cultural heritage boat factory?" she continued. "When the cultural heritage boat collapsed, I rushed to save you. However, you protected Daphne. You sure treated her well back then, didn't you? You didn't even care about your own safety."
She added deliberately, "Whenever I think about that, I have a hard time believing your excuse. Did you really just do it to make me jealous because of my thing with Wesley? It doesn't feel like it. I bet you were into her, weren't you? You just like that sweet, innocent college girl type."
William didn't know whether to laugh or be angry. Mostly, he was frustrated with himself for all the stupid things
he had done back then.
He explained carefully, "At the cultural heritage boat factory, everything happened so fast. I didn't expect you to rush over save me. Daphne was standing right next to me, and the boat was about to crush her. I couldn't just let her get hurt, so I shielded her."
Recently, with her workload greatly reduced, Emelie had been spending more time online and had picked up quite
a bit of sarcasm.
"Aw, you didn't expect me to save you," she drawled. She even imitated one of the memes.
William, sincere as ever, replied, "I underestimated you. It's all my fault."
Emelie wasn't completely unwilling to believe his explanation.
People were inherently good. After all, when they had been working in Wimstour City, Patricia hadn't yet revealed that she was William's cousin. She had constantly flirted with him just to irritate Emelie.
However, when the steel beams at the construction site nearly fell on Patricia, Emelie's first instinct was still to push her out of the way.
When William saw the peaceful look on Emelie's face, he knew that she believed him.
He added, "And if I liked college girls, why didn't I date one when I was in school? Angel, don't go imagining things I never did. Stop trying to pin crimes on me that I haven't committed."
The food was served just then. He picked up a piece of pork rib, carefully removed the bone, and placed the meat in her bowl. "I only like you."
Emelie's lips curved into a faint smile as she ate the rib.
The chef on this luxury plane had a five-star rating, and the food was pretty good. Emelie was quite satisfied with the meal.
Afterward, they looked out at the clouds and chatted.
Unexpectedly, Elena approached them. "Ms. Pierce, what a coincidence running into you here. I heard that you got married, and I haven't had the chance to congratulate you. Best wishes on your marriage."
Emelie wore a smile that didn't quite reach her eyes, finding the situation amusing. "Ms. Allen, you're too kind." William didn't even bother to look her way.
Emelie realized that Elena clearly was keeping up with her life when she heard her call her "Ms. Pierce", though she wasn't keeping up with Elena's life at all.
Emelie asked, "Is there something you need, Ms. Allen?"
Elena replied, "In the past, I was ignorant and immature. I've grown up a lot since then and realized how stupid I was. I owe you an apology, so I wanted to say I'm sorry."
Emelie had heard of people taking a long time to come t their senses, but Elena was ridiculously late. Still, whatever. Emelie hadn't thought about her in years.
She responded casually, "Since you're sincere about it, then I accept your apology. Is there anything else? If not..."
She gestured for her to leave. Although Emelie wasn't bothered about her, she certainly didn't enjoy the sight of
her.
Elena lowered her head and turned to leave. However, after a few steps, she hesitated.
She turned back and asked, "Ms. Pierce, do you know what happened to Daphne?"
"She's in jail, isn't she?" Emelie replied with a question.
Elena said, "She was, but I've been following your lives closely, so I found out that she had a cerebral infarction in prison last night. They couldn't save her, and she's already passed away."
Emelie's eyebrows shot up in surprise. "A cerebral infarction? Isn't she pretty young?"
"Even young people can have cerebral infarction," Elena replied. "Her parents have already taken her body."
Emelie was shocked, but after everything Daphne had done to her, she couldn't muster any sadness. In keeping with the Cedonian custom of "speaking no ill of the dead", she said nothing more.
Finally, Elena left, and they didn't see her again for the rest of the flight.
Emelie thought that perhaps Elena still hadn't fully let go of William, which explained why she kept tabs on both her and Daphne, two women who had once been connected to him.
Neither Emelie nor William brought p Daphne or Elena again. They were both just irrelevant people now, not
worth wasting breath on.
Soon, they happily landed in Capebatt City.
Before they even left the airport, Emelie got a call from Yennifer. Her voice sounded more excited than they were, sounding rather emotional. "Eme! Eme! Guess what amazing news we just got?"
"What is it? What's got you so excited?" Emelie asked, smiling.
"We just got word that your mom's heart transplant donor has been found! The match was successful!" Yennifer
replied.
Emelie froze for a good ten seconds, disbelief in her voice. "Really?"
William could hear the change in her tone and looked at her, puzzled.
Yennifer continued, "Yes, it's really true! The donor heart is already in Cedonia. Your mom and I are packing our bags right now, getting ready to come back! Eme, your mom can finally get rid of the artificial heart and live a
normal life again!"
Emelie laughed and said, "That's amazing!"
William was puzzled. "What happened?"
Emelie, with tears streaming down her face, said, "Mom's heart transplant match was successful!"
William was also surprised. Since the first successful heart match was quickly claimed by Daphne's father, they had been waiting for this heart for five years.
An artificial heart can only last seven to ten years, at most fifteen. However, with a donor heart, Greta could live out her life safely, with much-reduced risks and a much easier daily life. This was truly great news.
Emelie hung up the phone and threw herself into William's arms, unable to stop crying. She was genuinely afraidThis is from NôvelDrama.Org.
of losing Greta again.
William gently patted her back, reassuring her, "I'll arrange the surgery. Don't worry. It will go smoothly without
any problems."
Emelie nodded vigorously. "Okay!"
William had invited the best medical team to perform Greta's surgery.
After she returned to the country, Greta first underwent a series of medical tests and took anti-rejection medication for a few days. Once her vitals stabilized, the surgery was promptly scheduled.
On the day of the surgery, before the anesthesia was administered, Greta asked the doctors to tell Emelie to go home and rest, not to stay at the hospital. The surgery would take several hours, and as a heavily pregnant woman, she wouldn't be able to handle it.
Ashlyn said in sign language, "Go home, Emelie. Don't make Mom worry. If anything happens, I'll let you know."
Eliana was also present. "Yes, Emelie, don't worry. The doctors said the chances of success are very high." Emelie didn't respond. She watched as William set up a reclining chair at the door of the operating room.
"Rest here while you wait," he said.
Emelie bit her lip. "Aren't you going to persuade me to go home?"
William gently said, "I know that you'd want to wait here."
He understood her the most. At a time like this, even if she went home, she would be restless and anxious. was
better for her to wait here, and he would handle everything to make her waiting more comfortable.
Emelie silently grasped his hand, their wedding rings touching lightly.
Many people were waiting outside the operating room-the three sisters, the three sons-in-law, and Yennifer.
The surgery lasted five hours. When the lights went out, everyone stood up.
The doctor came out of the operating room and sighed with relief. He said in Asteshese, "It went very smoothly." Emelie felt as if a huge weight had been lifted from her heart.
