Chapter 79

“Attention, citizens! An explosion has rocked Crescent Avenue, and the building is ablaze. Secondary ConTEent bel0ngs to Nôv(e)lD/rama(.)Org .

explosions are a possibility. Please avoid the area and clear the way for emergency vehicles…”

Uriah paused, absorbing the news, before quickly pulling up the GPS map on his screen.

The location at 66 Crescent Avenue was blinking frantically with red dots and warning icons.

The site of the incident was the headquarters of the shadowy corporation behind the assassination plot

against King.

Uriah glanced over at Natalie.

Ambulances whizzed by, their sirens howling toward the nearest hospital.

“What are you looking at me for?” Natalie met Uriah’s gaze and then replied with feigned innocence.

“That building of theirs was ancient, chock–full of guns and ammo. An electrical fire leading to an

explosion wouldn’t be a shocker, would it?”

“You…” Uriah couldn’t help but shake his head. He knew better than to take Natalie’s word for

1. it.

King would be furious if he found out she had acted on her own and against orders.

But it was undeniable that Natalie was competent. She left no trace, and even if the enemy

suspected it was the work of the Truth Group, they could do nothing without evidence.

He decided to play ignorant this time. Those people had been too arrogant and lawless these past

few years. Letting them have a taste of their own medicine didn’t seem like a bad idea.

When they returned to the estate, Nina was quietly playing with her Legos in the living room.

Nina saw Natalie through the glass door and leaped up from the couch, and her excited squeal

was audible even through the pane.

Natalie had missed Nina dearly, and they eagerly shared their affections in a flurry of hugs and

chatter.

As evening approached, Natalie carried Nina upstairs to get changed.

Nina remembered what day it was. They would soon go out to pay their respects to Zephyr, so she

obediently stood on the bed while Natalie dressed her in a white frock.

“Zephyr’s flowers are ready,” Nina whispered, pointing to a vase as Natalie slipped the dress over

her head, “It’s green bellflowers. Uriah said they’re pretty rare.”

King had also chosen bellflowers for Zephyr in previous years, sticking with tradition.

“Would I have looked like Zephyr if he were alive?” Nina asked, looking up at Natalie as they

descended the stairs.

Natalie pondered her words before replying gently, “No, you are you, and Zephyr was Zephyr.

Everyone in this world is unique. The bellflowers we give to Zephyr, they symbolize that

uniqueness.”

“But King said the bellflower meant eternal love,” Nina pondered and then said, “He told me that

even though Zephyr is gone, you will always love him.”

Natalie smiled and remained silent.

King didn’t know that the bellflower had a dual meaning, a secret known to few.

Brian had told her the symbolism of uniqueness a long time ago. She remembered being very

young at the time.

Once, during a visit to the Wright family, Gracia mysteriously fell down the stairs. Everyone

accused Natalie of pushing her out of jealousy because Samuel had bought Gracia a limited–

edition doll and not her, so she supposedly did it in spite.

Gracia suffered only minor injuries, just some scrapes, but Natalie was still beaten black and blue

by Samuel and locked in the attic.

Samuel left her there from dawn until dusk, and no amount of pleading would change his mind.

Later that night, Brian arrived at the Wright family and took her back. On their way home, they

passed a flower shop that was still open. He asked Reid to buy her a bouquet.

That was the first time she learned about the unique meaning of bellflower.
