Chapter 2261
Just as they left the office, they bumped into Lindsay.
“Matthew, are you heading out?” Lindsay asked, clearly surprised.
Matthew’s brow furrowed in slight irritation.
“Why aren’t you in the hospital? What are you doing here?”
Feeling unjustly accused, Lindsay explained, “The doctor gave me the all clear.
It’s dull staying alone in the hospital, so I came here to keep busy.
I really meant what I said about wanting to get back to work.”
Then, somewhat hesitantly, she inquired, “Are you off to some social event?”
Fernando took a quick glance at Matthew, thinking it was best to keep quiet.
Matthew avoided detailing his plans, dismissing her icily.
“If you want to be here, then stay.”
Without another word, he walked off briskly, Fernando in tow.
Lindsay’s eyes followed Matthew as he hurried away, her teeth clenched in frustration.
She had feigned illness to attract his attention, and she had come to the company to keep an eye on Matthew.
But now she could sense his growing indifference toward her.
Growing more distressed, Lindsay messaged the mysterious person.novelbin
“I can’t take this anymore.
Can you help me deal with Stella?”
But the message bounced back.
The number was out of service.
Stunned, Lindsay realized her strongest backer had vanished.
The realization fueled her anger, and she nearly hurled her phone.
Yet, aware she was at her workplace, she forcefully calmed herself.
Meanwhile, at the restaurant, Sanford glanced at Bella and offered, “Bella, since you’re the elder, why don’t you pick something for us to eat?”
Bella, distracted, responded nonchalantly, “Anything’s fine.
You decide.”
While speaking, her eyes constantly flickered toward the entrance.
Sanford didn’t press further and ordered some of the restaurant’s signature dishes.
Then he passed the menu back to the waiter.
Noticing Bella’s preoccupation, he too glanced toward the entrance, but nothing seemed out of the ordinary.
Driven by curiosity, he inquired, “Bella, what’s catching your attention?”
Bella shifted her gaze away and answered vaguely, “Oh, it’s nothing.”
Stella also appeared restless and finally said, “Sanford, just say what you need to say.
My mom’s my family.
There’s no need for secrets.”
