When Left

CHAPTER 9

Chapter 9 A Good Husband

Every move of Christopher and Evelyn seemed a slap in my face and sent shivers down my spine.

I had imagined this scene countless times.

Seeing this scene, I felt an inexplicable chill.

“Hope you’re awake?” Evelyn turned around, greeting me with a smile.

“Come and taste what Christopher has cooked. I promise it’s delicious.”

She then carried the food to the table like a perfect hostess.

I took a deep breath, walked past her, and confronted Christopher directly.

“Why is she here?”

Christopher, finishing the last dish, took off his apron and coldly replied, “She’ll get out here after this meal.”

“Have you no conscience? You want me to leave?” Evelyn glared at him.

“Evelyn, mind your manners! Don’t cause trouble. Christopher’s patience seemed to have run out.

“You’re being petty,’ Evelyn muttered, pulling me to the table.

It was as if the person who had cried and demanded a divorce from Christopher yesterday was not her. It was as if she hadn’t done everything to call my husband away.

Christopher’s cooking was excellent, the five dishes and soup were both exquisite and delicious.

Even though I had no appetite, I had to consider the child in my belly.

Evelyn had become shameless, and there was nothing for me to fear.

I sat down and started eating.

Evelyn asked softly, “Is it good?”

I smiled and replied, “His cooking is delicious. Whenever he’s home, he’s the one who cooks.”

Of course, it was a lie. I just wanted to use this simple method to tell her that Christopher was my husband.

Evelyn glanced at Christopher and said, “I didn’t expect you to be so good to others.”

“Can’t you be quiet while eating? Christopher coldly interjected, handing me a piece of spare rib.

Evelyn snorted and casually said to me, “Do you know why he cooks? I taught him. I especially like the fried chicken;

It’s my favorite dish. He’s the most serious when he makes it!”.

“By the way, the tomato pasta he makes is also delicious. But he used to make it for me every day, and I got tired of it. Later, he only made it when he wanted to take the easy way out.”

I felt my heart sink.

The tomato pasta that I had enjoyed so much was something Evelyn had grown tired of.

I suddenly remembered the night of our wedding anniversary when I asked him who taught him to cook, and he was lost in thought for half a minute.

What was he thinking during that half-minute? Was he thinking about Evelyn, or was he reminiscing about the time he spent learning to cook with Evelyn?

“To be honest, you should thank me. If it weren’t for me, how could you have such a handsome and cooking-savvy

husband? Evelyn said.

I suddenly put down my fork, unable to bear it, and asked with a forced smile, “Is that so? So now that you’re divorced, do you want him to marry you?”

I continued, “Christopher, I didn’t expect you to prefer to be a garbage bin.

I looked at Christopher with a faint gaze.

“Hope, what do you mean?”

Evelyn was very angry and looked at Christopher with red eyes.

“Chris, we’re supposed to be family. Just because you got married, does that mean you can’t have family around you?”

“Are you full? I’ll have Donald take you.” Christopher remained calm and didn’t spare her a second glance.

“So, you’re also helping her bully me?”

Tears instantly welled up in Evelyn’s eyes. She was shocked and pitiful.

“Are you sure you don’t want me anymore?”NôvelDrama.Org holds this content.

Christopher replied, “Keep in mind what you promised to me. If you need anything in the future, just contact Donald directly.”

Evelyn’s shoulders trembled slightly as if she had been greatly hurt.

Seeing that Christopher showed no sigh of compromise, she smiled, her voice filled with anger.

“Okay, I understand. I won’t bother you anymore. Whether I live or die in the future has nothing to do with you.”

She got up and left without hesitation, dragging her suitcase.

Donald was waiting for her in the car. Seeing this, he quickly got out of the car to help her with the luggage.

Christopher didn’t even look at Evelyn the whole time.

I was also surprised at how quickly he had distanced himself from her.

I had just found out about his relationship with Evelyn last night, and today, their relationship had completely ended.

It was so fast that I couldn’t believe it.

“What are you thinking? Let’s eat.”

Christopher ruffled my hair and brought me back to reality.

It was as if there had been no rift between us.

Christopher spent the whole day with me.

He followed me when I went for a walk in the yard, and he followed me when I fed the fish. I worked on my design

drafts, and he handled his business nearby.

Although he didn’t say much, I could tell that he was trying to comfort me.

In the evening, after I finished my shower, my phone alarm went off.

I took out a piece of progesterone pill and put it in my mouth.

Christopher came in with a cup of hot milk.

“Why are you taking medication?”

“It’s just a supplement.”

I looked into his deep eyes and said, “Can you accompany me to the hospital next Saturday? I want to have a check-up. and I also want to take you somewhere.”

I needed to go to the hospital for a follow-up.

Christopher was willing to cut off contact with Evelyn, so he had made a choice. But I was still not at ease, afraid thelon something might happen, so I didn’t want to tell him about my pregnancy now. If there were no accidents, he would

05:0 know on the day of the check-up.

Christopher would personally take the ultrasound report from the machine and see that he was going to be a father.

He would know that we were having a baby.

As I thought about it, I couldn’t help but feel excited.

“Well, is your stomach still hurting? Don’t wait until Saturday; go to the hospital tomorrow.”

“No need. It’s nothing serious.”

After I started taking the medication, my helly hardly hurt, and there was no bleeding.

I just needed to go for the follow-up as instructed by the doctor.

Christopher didn’t say anything more; he put the milk on the bedside table and then pulled me into his arms.

“You’ve been through a lot these days. Don’t be angry, okay?”

I felt like a cat being petted. I couldn’t stand being comforted by him like this.

My anger subsided,

1 said simply, “I can stop being angry, but Christopher, there is no next time.”

“If there is another time, we’re done.” I added in my heart.

The next afternoon, Elissa came to my office to take a break.

I stopped working and glanced at her, joking, “Is the marketing department so idle?*

She was wearing a V-neck silk shirt and a beige fishtail skirt today.

She walked in in high heels.

Every move of hers was charming and attracted many people’s attention.

“What’s wrong? As the lady of the company, don’t you allow your employees to take a break?’ Elissa laughed and handed me two cups of oat milk.

She put one in front of me and explained, “Don’t worry. It’s oat milk. I asked my doctor friend about this, and she said that pregnant women should drink less coffee. But there are too many precautions, and I’ll send them to you on WhatsApp later. You must be careful. Pregnancy is a big deal, you know.”

“Elissa.” I interrupted her.

In her puzzled look, I teased, “You sound like my mom.”

My parents died because our family went bankrupt. People came to my school to collect debts and threatened me to make my dad pay.

My parents were terrified. They rushed over and got into a serious car accident.

I was only eight years old at the time. For many years, I was deeply trapped in guilt and self-blame. They died because

of me.

Later, Elissa told me that they died because they loved me.

Yes, in my fading memory, they gave me a lot of love.

My family’s company was doing well, but no matter how busy they were, my dad would spend every weekend at home

with me and my mom.

Johnson Dylan, my uncle-in-law, urged them to have a second child, saying that with such a big family business, they needed a son to inherit it.

My mom retorted right away, “Who said only a son could inherit?’ They wouldn’t let anyone take away what belonged to me. Whether it’s love or property, it was mine alone.

If it weren’t for the accident, my mom would have been very concerned about my pregnancy.

“Do you miss your parents?” Elissa paused.

“I remember it’s almost their death anniversary.”

After speaking, she picked up her phone and took a look.

“It’s approaching. Do you want to take Christopher to see your parents this year?”

“Yes, that’s my plan.”

To be honest, I had been married to Christopher for three years, but I hadn’t taken him to see my parents yet.

He had always been busy, and she always felt that they weren’t close enough. So, I never mentioned it.
