Vampire Lover

Chapter 5

On the clean sidewalk, Avril lowered her head as she stared at the marriage certificate she was clutching. Her face was in a bewildered daze.C0ntent © 2024 (N/ô)velDrama.Org.

"Is this for real?" She asked herself.

In just a day, not only did she break up with her fiance, but she also got married to a complete stranger!

Haider who stood by her put away the marriage certificate in his hands, and he had a satisfied look on his face. He gently held Avril's hand, "From now on, you're my wife. I'll take responsibility for you and be a good husband."

"He's taking up the role of a husband so quickly?" Avril's eyes widened, as she was startled by his words.

The man's palm was a little cold. Avril could feel his body temperature as they were in close contact. She could smell the scent of masculinity from his closeness.

Avril felt her cheeks getting warmer. She wanted to pull her hand away from his grasp, but the man held it even tighter. He looked at her in a teasing manner, "Holding hands can help build the relationship between us."

It sounded to Avril as though there was nothing wrong with his words, but she still felt that there was something strange.

Indeed, they were married. But it was also true that she had just suffered a heartbreak and broke up with Jack just a few hours before this! And now, she was being asked to develop a relationship with another man? Although Haider was extremely attractive, such circumstances still made her feel awkward to do so.

"Emm, Isn't this a bit too fast? We can take it slowly." Avril tried to escape from his grasp.

Haider let go of her hand. He asked in a teasing manner, "Are you shy?" His deep- set eyes swept across her face.

"Are you kidding me? I'm being shy? Even if that's true, I would never admit it!" Avril thought.

Avril straightened her back. There was a hint of hesitance in her pure eyes, "No, not at all! I just need some time to adapt to this situation."

"Is that so?"

Haider raised his eyebrows and a gleam of light flashed across his eyes. "Alright, I'll give you time to get used to it."

Then, a black Maybach silently pulled over in front of them. A man in black uniform got out of the car, and bowed to Haider with the utmost respect.

Avril stared at the uniformed man in confusion. Then, she shot a glance at Haider.

She wondered, why did she have the feeling that Haider seemed to be very noble and respected?

Why would Angie be willing to abandon such an outstanding man?

Avril's heart was filled with questions but when she was about to ask him what happened between Angie and him, she got pulled into the car by Haider.

"Where are we going?" Avril asked. Haider did not say a word after taking her into the car. The driver also remained silent the entire time. When she saw the unfamiliar surroundings outside the windows, a sense of fear suddenly crept into her heart.

She made such an impulsive decision to marry him without knowing much about him. What if he was a bad guy?

Haider's expression was indifferent, but there were sparks of delight in his eyes. He placed his fingers on his lap and tapped lightly with his index finger. "I'm taking you to our matrimonial home." Matrimonial home?

"Was he already prepared to marry Angie? Did he get married to me on impulse too just because he had also been betrayed by Angie?"

Avril sighed deeply in her heart. When she turned to look at Haider again, there was sympathy in her eyes.

He was right. They were really on the same boat, caught in the same pathetic state.

In City Y of Country M, Brock Street was the most luxurious place to be. It was the gathering place for famous figures while people who lived on this street were either rich or respectable.

An elegant woman in a black embroidered cheongsam was sitting in an antique Oriental-styled courtyard. Her curly blonde hair was tied up with a slender hairpin. Her red lips were slightly pursed, her pupils were of a pale golden color, while she had a sharp gaze in her eyes.

"Madam Henry," The housekeeper, Steve, served her a cup of freshly brewed tea. "This is the tea, Da Hong Pao, brewed by the newly-hired tea master. Please enjoy it."

Madam Henry's hand, with her red-painted nails, gracefully picked up the cup and place it below her nostrils to smell its fragrance. "Not bad. Finally, there is some oriental flavor in my tea."

Madam Henry was brought up under the influence of Oriental culture. Ever since she was married to Duke Henry Ventrue, she renovated her whole house to emulate Chinese designs. Her meals were all of Chinese cuisine and she loved drinking tea as well. She even demanded the servants at her residence to wear cheongsams and Chinese tunic suits.

After hearing Madam Henry's comments, Steve remained silent while lowering his head. This was already the fourth newly employed tea master this month. Whenever she felt a little unsatisfied with someone, Madam Henry would be furious and she would fire that person. She was always hot-tempered, so the best Steve could do was to stay silent as much as he could.

After taking a sip, Madam Henry savored the aroma of the tea on the tip of her tongue with satisfaction. She then picked up the embroidered fan by her side and fanned herself gently. "Where is that little b*stard, Haider?" "Madam, Young Master Haider said that he has something on tonight. He won't be coming home, and he won't come home for a while."

"Hmmph!" Madam Henry snorted, "How dare a lowly b*stard disregard me? When that old woman Julie dies, I shall see how long can he continue behaving so arrogantly!"

Steve frowned as he heard that.

Young Master Haider was a capable young man and he also respected his servants. However, he liked to go against Madam Henry.

Hopefully, Young Master Haider's elderly grandmother, the Old Madam Julie Ventrue, would live a very long life. That way, she could protect Haider for a longer time!
