Under the Heiress' Facade

Chapter 675

Chapter 675

How could Bernard be so selfish?

Bernard rarely saw Hera get so mad, so he was filled with guilt and worry.

"I'm so sorry, sweetie." He sounded earnest. "I should've told you about this sooner. I was too selfish. I was afraid that you'd leave me if you found out. I just don't want to lose you again."

Reaching for Hera's hand, he slid down from the chair and knelt before her. Tiramisu jumped off Hera's lap at Bernard's sudden movement.

Hera herself was taken by surprise too. The anxiety and plea in his gaze did not escape her eyes, making her heart heavy.

She averted her gaze as she found herself unable to look at him any longer. She was afraid that if she stared into his eyes much longer, she'd give in and believe his words.

She once loved him with all her heart, after all. Yet, he had broken her heart repeatedly.

She couldn't afford to make the same mistake again. He had lied to her twice, so she swore to herself that she wouldn't buy his lies anymore.

Seeing the cold resolve in her eyes, Bernard started to fret.

"Sweetie, look at me," he pleaded. "I was wrong. I won't do it again. I'm sorry. Please give me another chance."

"I did, Bernard," Hera told him.

She chose to forgive him the last time. But in the end, what did she get in return?

This lesson taught her that Bernard's promise to her the last time was just a part of a bigger lie!

Bernard fell silent. Hera had indeed given him a chance to repent, but he ruined it.

Eventually, he said, "I've never gotten into a relationship before. I'm inexperienced in this, and I've hurt you. Can you please give me another chance? Let me fix my mistakes and make it up to you."

Hera raised her eyes to look at Bernard briefly before shutting her eyes to force back the tears that threatened to fall.

After a while, she opened her eyes to look at him, her gaze sharp and serious.

She said to Bernard, who was still kneeling on the ground, "Bernard, will you stop me at all costs if I insist on investigating the matter?"

Bernard glanced up at her. He didn't respond.

Hera was the person he loved the most, whereas Lucius was the person he was indebted to. Bernard didn't even need to think twice. Hera was the answer.

Even so, he still needed time to settle things regarding his promise to Lucius. He wanted the entire Killian family to pay for what they had done.

Hera got her answer too. She took a deep breath and said, "Okay. It's best we don't see each other until this entire matter is settled."

That said, she pulled her hand out of Bernard's grasp, took off the ring he gave her, and placed it on the table. Bernard stared at the ring, feeling as though an invisible pair of hands was squeezing his heart tightly until it hurt. He felt as if all the cells in his body were going to explode, and a voice in his mind kept repeating the same words. "You need to hide her! She belongs to you! She's yours and only yours!"

But then, he heard another voice telling him, "No, you'll hurt her! It'll end badly for both of you!"

As the two voices argued with each other, Bernard's head pulsed until he thought his brain would explode. Even

his eyes had turned red from the chaos in his mind.

Hera chose to ignore that. She simply ordered, "I want you to leave."

"Can't you give me another chance?" Bernard looked at her with red, pleading eyes that glistened with tears. His gaze was so pitiful and helpless.

Hera didn't want to see him like that, so she got up and left. When she reached the door, she heard his hoarse voice saying, "It's temporary, right? You're not leaving me forever, right?"Upstodatee from Novel(D)ra/m/a.O(r)g
