Chapter 35
Chapter 35
Izabella bowed her head and sank her teeth into his wrist with force, tearing and biting ferociously. Her sharp teeth pierced through the flesh, and despite the metallic sweetness in her mouth, she refused to let go.
Brett winced slightly, feeling the pain, but he stubbornly held onto her. He kept Izabella firmly in his grip as he addressed the police officers behind him, saying, "Find someone to remove and handle the body."
One of the policemen inquired, "How should we proceed?"
The question lingered in the air. Brett twisted his wrist, maintaining his hold on Izabella's jaw, while he gazed at her teeth stained with blood. His eyes filled with gloom as he asked, "Izabella, what do you think we should do?"
Izabella couldn't respond, as he had a tight grip around her throat, causing her to whimper and moan in pain. The overwhelming metallic taste in her mouth made it impossible for her to distinguish between Brett's blood and her own. RêAd lat𝙚St chapters at Novel(D)ra/ma.Org Only
"If there's no response, send it to the crematorium."
The policeman called someone over with his walkie-talkie, preparing to remove the body lying on the ground. It wasn't good to leave it here, so they decided to follow Brett's suggestion and take it to the crematorium.
"No..." She didn't want them to touch her dad. As she saw the body being taken away, Izabella reached out frantically, but she only managed to grab a piece of the white cloth. As the cloth was torn away, Alan's body was fully exposed to her.
The sight of the body after the fall was horrifying. Even the police, who were used to seeing death, were taken aback.
The sight was horrific. His body lay shattered, drenched in blood, with a gruesome hole in his abdomen. It appeared that during the fall, his belly had impaled onto a construction rebar, causing his internal organs to spill out.
The scene was witnessed by numerous people, many of whom screamed or vomited in response.
Izabella suddenly fell silent, freezing in place. She was breathing heavily, her face drained of color. Abruptly, her vision went black as Brett covered her eyes from behind.
"Let go of me!" Izabella gasped, struggling. "Brett, release me!"
But Brett refused to release his hold. Instead, he tightened his grip on her eyes, blocking out any trace of light. He felt his palm growing warm and damp...
Izabella bit her lower lip, overwhelmed by an unbearable sense of heartache. When she saw the hole in Alan's belly, it was as if a similar void had opened in her own chest, allowing the cold wind to penetrate, causing her to break out in a cold sweat.
Izabella held her chest, her body curling up from the pain. Breathing heavily, she stuttered, "Brett, I don't have a dad anymore."
"You still have me," Brett murmured into her ear, trying to make his voice as soft as possible.
Through tear-strained laughter, Izabella mustered a weak voice, her words punctuated by sobs, "Brett, I deeply regret it... I regret meeting you six years ago, pressuring you into marrying me four years ago, and everything I've put you through during these past four years. If it wasn't for me, none of this would have happened."
Had she simply forgotten about Brett from sixteen years ago, their lives would have been untangled from each other's grasp. She wouldn't have been afflicted with stomach cancer, the Salotti Group wouldn't be on the brink of collapse, she wouldn't have endured four days trapped within her bedroom, and her father wouldn't have been falsely accused and framed.
"Izabella, it's too late to say all this now."
Indeed, everything was too late. All the suffering she was going through, all the pain she was enduring, it was all her fault.
Suddenly, Izabella's body started trembling violently. Brett realized something was wrong.
"Izabella, what's wrong?"
Izabella couldn't hear what Brett was saying. All she could feel was her stomach, as if something was corroding it, causing unbearable pain.
