” I’m here dear. Your grandfather left me all alone. I’m alone in this big house”
” Grams, you have everyone there. It’s not a place for me. I’ll call you later. I’ve a meeting with some foreigners. Newest investors. Love you Gram’s” he ended the call and stood up to take a bath.
He entered and perceived her cologne then recalled how close he was to her and how he almost kissed her . His anger will be the death of him he sneered and entered the tub. He closed his eyes and suddenly the image of her sullen face when he called her a slut envisaged. He shook it off and prepared for the luncheon.
He wore a black tux and was fixing his wristwatch when he noticed a guy giving Audrey flowers and she was smiling. Slut he murmured then stepped into his box. The investors has already arrived. He sat down and they began the meeting. He took a glimpse at Audrey every second to check if she went with the flower guy.
She and the guy was seated in another table talking and smiling. He hasn’t seen her smile before. A glimpse turned to a glare. She noticed it and looked his way . He immediately turned his head and focused on their pep talk.
Audrey faced David and cleared her throat. David Mark was her crush in high school. She recently ran into him a few days ago. She was surprised he recognized her. They were talking about old times and she told him about her old crush. They laughed it out
‘ do you know what? You were every guy’s dream” he voiced . she laughed hard this time cos no one asked her out.
” That’s very funny. ”
” It’s true. I had a crush on you too” he said shyly
” Another one. wow you’re cracking me up” she laughed again unknown to her that it was ruining someone’s mood or maybe she was trying to hide her tears
” I’m glad you’re fine now. ”
” Was I sick? She asked surprised
” You aunt told the principal to announce your ailment. She said you had some kind of deadly disease.”
” What? ”
” It explained your obsession with medicine. You never mingled with anyone” he explained seeing her surprised face
” I had reasons for that . I didn’t make friends cos I was told not to by my … omg” she stuttered. Now it made sense. she restricted her from having friends to withdraw her chances of learning her lies. Why did she say such a thing? She was furious. She hit her hand on the table and smashed a glass
” Calm down. What’s wrong? Are you still unwell? He asked with concern it’s not everyday you meet your crush and she was still single. He was hoping maybe she was well now and they could date
” I have to go. Thanks. I’ll see you some other day” she said leaving while the janitor cleaned up the mess. Leaving David in despair. Perhaps there’ll be another chance to ask her out.
Lucas luncheon ended around Seven . He was tired and was done for the day. The guest left already but he was surprised to see Jenny.
” Lucas, don’t I deserve a hug? She asked earning a glare from him
” You and I aren’t friends. Business hours are over. Go home Jenny” he retorted taking his jacket off
” But we’re family friends. Your dad and my dad are friends”
” Does that make us friends? You must be a fool then. I loathe your type. The I’m the best type”
” It doesn’t matter. Should I help ? I can do it” she offered to unknot his tie
” Don’t touch me or you’ll lose that hand” he snapped making her shudder.
” You still haven’t changed. It’s a good thing you are here to stay. There’s plenty of time to be acquainted” she smiled
” Whatever. Take your stinking self out of my sight” he cursed making her ashamed as she began sniffing herself
” And get out” he added walking out on her. Pleased he’s good at chasing women away. Step on their pride and they leave you all alone for good.
