Chapter 30
Chapter 30
“Bea?!” He called out her name after she was silent for a while.
“What’s going on in your mind?”
“I thought that was why you were eager to see me. So we could talk.” He said, with his gaze fixed on her from where he was seated across her.
“I....I.....” She started stammering, then heaved a sigh.
Taking a look at her glass cup, She saw that her wine had finished so she reached for the bottle and refilled it, after which she gulped down almost all of it.
“You want me to pack my bags and leave because I’m starting to get irritated. It’s as if I’m not welcome here.” Ollie bursted, not knowing how long he could endure all of these. One of the things he hated was secrets. He preferred to be told the truth no matter how bitter or rude or blunt it may seem and he was no fool to conclude that they were definitely hiding something from him.
“No...no.. You don’t have to do that.” She answered him immediately. “I promise you that I’m not hiding anything but I will tell you all that you need to know. I just don’t know where to start.”
“Start from anywhere.”
Beatrice swallowed painfully. “Okay!!!”
“You wanted to know the reason your father and I got divorced?”
Oliver didn’t give any response. He just kept staring at Beatrice.
She shrugged, “Nothing out of the blue.”
“I caught him cheating on me. That wasn’t the first time or the third time. Anytime it happens, he tries to cook up a story about the ladies seducing him and taking advantage of him.”
“I got tired and decided to end it.”
“That’s stupid. You guys cheat on each other. I’m his son and you flirt with me.”
“Flirting is my thing and you know that. It gives me joy and even though it may seem like I want you to rip my clothes off, bend me over this table and fuck me till my legs give up, trust me, I would not give in to anything like that.”
“I may be a flirt but whenever I decide to commit to one person, I give that commitment my all and that includes being faithful. I enjoyed your company and that was the reason why I always spent time with you. You could always testify that your father was hardly around to give me all of the attention I needed. He was always traveling around, doing business and bribing me with expensive vacations and gifts.”
“Going on trips and receiving gifts warms my heart but there’s more to life than that. I’ve got divorced a few times before I got entangled with Charles so I got a lot of money out of each divorce process which can cater for the good life I want. The only thing that keeps me remarrying is the need for a companion and your father never gave me that.”
“Andre is a very busy businessman. Do you think he will give you the attention you need?”
“I hope so and if he slacks, I will let go of him.”
“I know what your problem is. You just love celebrating weddings. You are on your what now? 6th marriage?”
“That’s not a lie. I love the feels, thrills and vibes that come with being a newlywed and besides, you should commend me on not giving up on love unlike you youngsters.”
“Andre has been really attentive to me. He makes time for me, He loves me, he spoils me and I do not think there is anything more I could ask for. He’s resigning soon so that’s why he’s been working overtime lately so he would hand over to his son in good hands and then spend more time with me.” She smiled.
“Are you sure he’s busy with work or doing something else?”
“Stop being negative.” Property © NôvelDrama.Org.
“I’m not. I’m just stating facts. If he really loves you and is protective of you, It would be obvious.”
“Stop being bitter.” She frowned at him.
“I’m not. When was the last time he called you?”
“We spoke this morning.”
“Morning? I can see that he loves you very much.”
“Don’t be a bitter person, Ollie. Tomorrow’s the wedding. We are not supposed to communicate.”
“Really?” Ollie arched his brow.
“I thought that silly ritual only applied to seeing each other.”
“I’ve got my own ritual too. Not seeing me or hearing my voice 24 hours to the wedding will make him miss me more and make everything more romantic tomorrow.”
Oliver chuckled in disbelief. “Love sucks.”
“Says someone that wants me to reunite with his father.” She rolled her eyes at him.
“I honestly don’t give a fuck about you both. I was just curious as to why you guys divorced. I didn’t see it coming. My Dad never had it in mind to get married again until he met you. All I know is that he had a soft spot for you. Even till now.”
“It wasn’t even about him cheating but about who he cheated on me with.”
“You mean they are not up to your standard?”
“Definitely.”
“And then I got home and we saw you and Katherine.”
“Oh please, don’t tell me that was part of the reason you left.”
“What if I say it was.”
“Then that was a very stupid thing to do.” He confessed.
“You fucked your step-sister!!!! Who is the mother of.....” Beatrice stopped herself before she lost it completely.
Ollie stared at her, trying to make sense of what she just said.
“You confuse me so much. Mother of what?”
Beatrice said nothing.
“You were jealous I fucked your daughter?”
“So you left with her?”
“Not Jealous. I was just disappointed.”
“Why?” Oliver asked almost immediately.
“As far as I remember, She was an adult and it was something we both wanted and consented to.”
“Look, I don’t deny the fact that I’m a shitty mother but I care very much about Katherine even though I don’t show it. You were 100% a playboy and Kathie is someone that gets emotionally attached to things and people. The sex may mean nothing to you but I promise you that it would mean everything to her.”
“She used to pretend to hate you but deep down I know that She liked you. And after what happened between you two, I knew relationships were going to be awkward and you were going to hurt her more. You literally have different girlfriends every week.”
“With all of that and the fact that I’ve had enough from your father, I felt it was best to leave and that was it. Didn’t hear from your Dad until a few months back when I got a message from him.”
“You got a message from him?” Ollie said in disbelief. “Had a feeling he must have known your whereabouts all this while. He told me you all were involved in a car crash. So that was the end of your existence for me.”
“Your father could be an asshole.”
“Same as you.”
Beatrice frowned at her ex-stepson.
“Just when I was coming to terms about having a so-called family and liking the fact that I had the sexiest and most fun step-mom, you ran off like a coward.”
“And have my children fucking each other? Oh please!” She rolled her eyes.
“I see no wrong in that. Kathie and I are not related by blood and neither are me and you.”
“I see. You want me to go to hell so bad.”
“Oh please.” Oliver rolled his eyes “We are all gonna go to hell anyways so why not live and let’s live?”
“Glad I didn’t let you ruin me.”
“No one would have ruined anyone. I guess your protective motherly instinct pushed you to do what you did.”
Beatrice shrugged. “Enough about me. What’s up with you?”
“Me?” Ollie reiterated like it was a crime to talk about himself.
“Yes, you. Who are you dating or are you still whoring around?”
“Chill, you should be in your late thirties by now. Don’t you plan on settling down or something.”
“Weird to see that you still remember my age.”
Beatrice blushed, sipping down her drink. “I may act like I don’t care but that doesn’t mean I don’t know or I don’t have an idea about things.”
“I guess I’m still whoring around.”
“You guess or you are?” She arched a brow at him.
“I am.”
“You are still traumatized about the idea of getting married?”
“Only suckers get married.”
“Poor you! It’s because you haven’t found someone who would sweep you off your feet. Someone who you wouldn’t be able to live without her by your side.”
Oliver chuckled. “There you go again with your cringy talks.”
“You know how many women I’ve met in my lifetime?”
“You need to be open-minded for that to happen. Give yourself a chance to love and be loved.”
Ollie stared at her as though he didn’t give a shit about what she was saying.
“Aren’t you scared of ending up alone? You don’t wanna have kids at least?”
“Alone? As long as I’ve got money, I don’t think it’s possible for someone like me to end up alone.”
“So you want your generation to end with you since you don’t wanna have kids?”
“As of now. I’m not interested in being a father.”
Beatrice frowned at him. “Are you sure?” She purposely asked him the question to prepare herself for the likelihood of his reaction but She wasn’t pleased with what She was hearing.
“Just as you confessed about being a shitty mother, There’s no doubt I’m going to be worse than you. The shittiest father indeed.”
“I honestly don’t have experience about all of these but one thing I randomly know about being a parent is that it’s a whole lot of responsibility and I’m not ready to be responsible for anyone.”
“My parents never really had time for me, nannies literally brought me up and I wouldn’t want that for my child. I’m so busy with work and fun that I wouldn’t have time for that either.”
“I just have a feeling that I’m going to fail as a parent so it seems like a good idea to avoid that part of life.”
“And just as you were being cringy about not yet finding the woman of my dreams who would sweep me off my feet, I still haven’t found the right woman who is worthy of birthing my child.”
“It’s a different ball game if you were on the search for one. But you aren’t making any effort. You are just there, waiting for opportunities to come. It doesn’t work that way, my dear.”
“It’s just a sign that I’m not ready and I don’t think I’ll ever be. Can we talk about something else?”
“Sure. But I’ve got a favor to ask you.”
“Okay......”
“Do you plan on approaching Katherine if you see her?”
