Chapter 30
Chapter 30
I walk out of the washroom, wipe my face and enter my walk-in closet. I am feeling so exhausted today.
My head is throbbing, limbs are sore. It feels like someone has beaten me up to the toe. Not feeling
good to wear any formals, I go for a casual white cotton dress today that reaches my knees. It has a
white net layer over it and its long sleeves are also made of net, showing my skin. I leave my hair open
and just when I am about to get out of the closet, suddenly my head spins around. Somehow I manage
not to fall by grabbing the handle of the door and steady myself.
What's happening to me?
Walking out, I gulp down a glass of water and take my purse.
The previous week was pretty hectic for me. Meetings, deals, work, and above all, what is hurting most
is Ethan's rude behavior. He isn't really talking to me from the night of the party. In the morning, he left
for work before me and at night, came home after I went for sleep. Though I don't want to confess it, it
really hurts.
We had a few meetings with Liam and his father. I got time to talk to Liam and we got closer. I mean
like friends. Nothing else is going to happen anymore.
I think the busy schedules, stress, and anxiety are the reasons why I am feeling like this.
I get out of the room and head towards the door when I hear another click sound. I look back as my
eyes fall on Ethan coming outside of his room dressed in a dark blue suit. If it was any other time, he
would give me just a dull look and walk out but now his face wrinkles in worry and he marches towards
me and I stand there still.
I look down seeing him coming towards me as I see his shoes come into view.
"You okay?" He asks, his voice is still cold and for some unknown reason, that just angers me.
After behaving like that to me for no reason, now he's asking if I am okay or not? I don't owe him an
answer.
I narrow my eyes at him, "That's none of your business." I say in a stern voice and try to walk away
when he grasps my wrist.
I look back to see his angry expression as he speaks, "I asked you something." He grits every word.
I yank my hand away, "You shouldn't bother yourself about that."
Without giving him the chance to say anything, I turn around and walk out of the apartment.
It's evening and I am in my office, that throbbing pain has increased two times. Usually, I get home in
the evening but today I haven't been able to finish my work yet. Taking a sip of my cappuccino, I again
start typing on my laptop when someone knocks on the door.
"Come in," I say in a tired voice. Material © NôvelDrama.Org.
I look up and to my surprise, I see Liam entering inside.
What the hell is he doing here?
As much as I remember, we weren't supposed to attend any meeting together, nor any other need.
Then?
Liam smiles at me and sits on the chair before my desk.
"Liam?" I call out his name, my eyebrows furrowed in confusion, "You here?"
He shrugs, "Yeah. Came to see you."
I chuckle nervously, "We don't have any meetings today, do we?"
"No, that's why I came. These days, we just met when needed. Today I wanted to spend some free
time with you." He smiles, his familiar dimples show up.
There was a time when I needed this attention from him. I didn't need it. I craved it but then he didn't
notice me. Everything has a time. The thing you want today, if you get that tomorrow maybe till then,
the want will vanish and you wouldn't feel any need for it anymore. Now, this unwanted attention is
nothing but useless to me. I don't want it anymore. Time's up.
"You still have work?" He asks, watching the files on the table.
I nod, "Yeah. A lot."
He furrows his eyebrows and watches me cautiously before asking, "You don't seem well. Are you
okay?"
I fake a smile, "Yeah. I'm fine."
He seems unconvinced by my answer.
"But you don't seem so. Can you just stop working for today? Is it too important?"
"It is." I give him a small smile.
"Don't pressure yourself too much. You need a break." He says, concern flashing in his eyes.
"But..."
"I insist." He requests and looking at his face, I finally nod and close the laptop.
He grins as a delightful expression covers his voice, "Thank you. Let's go to a cafe. We will talk
sometime and you will feel better too."
As I think about his proposal, it seems good. I really don't feel like working now and coffee will probably
be something to give me some relief.
I nod slowly just as his face brightens up and he smiles at me, gratefully.
Liam was right. I really needed a break and coffee is something that always makes me feel better. We
really seem to have a great time talking about the past when we were in high school. I have been really
enjoying his company and I don't notice how time has passed when the sound of rain catches my
attention.
I look through the glass window of the cafe and see the night has already fallen. It's already dark and
for the clouds, it's looking more obscure.
"Liam, I should go home now. It's getting late." I say and take a look at my wristwatch.
Shit. It's already 9 p.m.
I should have gone home before.
"Yeah. Let's go. I had a great time by the way." He says, smiling.
"Me too."
When we come outside of the cafe, drizzling soon turns into heavy rain as the wind blows creating an
eerie sound on the way. People start running for a shelter and some are getting into their cars. The sky
has turned full black, dark clouds are shading it and for that, the dark night looks more black.
We quickly get into Liam's car and he starts the engine. Flashing golden headlights enlighten the dark
night as we head towards my home, boring the lurking darkness on the way.
Ethan's POV
I know what I am doing makes no sense but I just can't control myself. When I thought maybe finally
everything would be fine, this Liam came up. I shouldn't be angry at her I know but it's just happening.
Not being able to concentrate on the files in my hand, I hastily get up. I walk outside of my office and
make my way to my car. Today morning, when she left for work, she didn't seem fine. She usually gets
home at this time. What if I pick her up today?
After driving fifteen minutes, I park my car in front of her office. When I get out of the car, it has started
drizzling. I see the guard sitting and move towards him. He immediately stands up as I reach him.
"Is Miss Gray in her office?" I ask.
He shakes his head, "No, sir. She left a while ago with..."
I frown instantly, "With?"
"With Mr. Liam."
That was it.
Just hearing the name rolling out of his mouth makes me want to punch his face.
What the fuck?
I thought she was sick and here she left with Liam? I was absolutely right about it then. She still loves
him. Just the thought of them together causing anger to arise within every vein of my body and I feel
like my blood starts to boil.
She fucking left with him.
Where are they now?
Fuck.
I want to punch someone so bad.
Evelyn's POV
The raindrops pour so heavily as it covers the glass window and drops down slowly one by one. I am
deeply engaged in seeing the outside view when Liam suddenly places his hand on mine, causing me
to look at him. I immediately scrunch my face in confusion at the look of him.
He has a different kind of look on his face that starts to make me feel nervous. I bow my head slightly
indicating him to say what he wants. He sends me a deep glance as he slowly moves towards me. I
look away slightly and move a bit away from him. The situation is getting difficult now. What does he
want?
He suddenly stops the car in the middle of the road, surprising me. Then he turns around and I see his
expression has changed. He seems nervous.
"Why did you stop the car here?" I ask, suddenly a bit frightened.
"Actually, I have something to tell you." He replies in a nervous tone making me frown.
I still nod, "Yeah. Tell me."
He looks a bit hesitant and as if after fighting with his inner discouragement, he finally speaks up.
"Can...can we take our friendship to more than just friends?"
