Through The Eyes Of My Alpha Chapter 40
Chapter 40
Through the eyes of my alpha Chapter 40
RILEY Beta Dominic and I were out for the whole day and did what we needed to do in the western part of the territory. There was construction ongoing for a new building that would serve as a commercial center and have a big library within it.The project went on hold during my three months of absence because my Beta couldn’t handle everything while taking care of me and the whole pack.
And as much as I just wanted to mope around because Nadia wasn’t speaking with me, I knew I had to get something done or I would start to lose myself again.
My pack deserved a responsible Alpha and my mate deserved a good mate, and no one could do that but me.
So here I was.
Even if my heart was too heavy to function, I kept smiling and talking with all the engineers and workers around me.
join telegram for latest update I couldn’t wait to come home.
But then I realized no one was waiting at home for me.
NADIA.
The day went by draggingly slow, and even though I was terrified of Riley at this point, I must admit that I missed him.
I spent half of the day with Jenny.
We just talked about Riley and what he had done and what she thought of him, the good and bad.
And I was thankful that Jenny was being honest with me, with no filters.
She told me about Riley threatening to mark Andrea and how he put his life and his men’s life on the line to assist Alpha Caspian’s pack when the latter was attacked, even if things about Andrea weren’t settled between them.
And how he almost died.
of all the things she told me, this was the one that pained me the most.
I thought that asking Andrea to sleep with him, and the marking was too painful, but those couldn’t compare to the anguish I felt inside at the thoughts of him dying even before I met him.
Even if a part of me wasn’t okay with what he did, I didn’t think I wanted a life without him.
I was still lost up to this point.
I’ve learned many things in just twenty-four hours, but I felt there were still many things I had to find out.
But to be honest, I had no idea if I could take more.
So I told Jenny I was done for the day and spent the rest of the afternoon and early evening at the library on the second floor of the pack house.
I read books by the window overlooking the pack house ground so I could see if they arrived, but it was darker now, and yet, they weren’t home.
I wondered where they ate lunch and dinner.
Did some female invite them over?
I couldn’t help the pang of jealousy from creeping into my heart.
Oh, stop it, Nadia!
I huffed at my own thoughts, reminding myself that Riley wasn’t like that.
Riley could have gotten any female if he wanted to, but he didn’t.
And then I remembered that he thought he was not good enough for anyone.
I was snapped from my own thoughts when I heard a car approaching.
It was the Beta’s car.
I peeked down, too excited to see him, and when I did see him come down from the car, my heart dropped and I couldn’t help the grin from spreading on my face.
Oh, Goddess, I missed him.
And then he looked up. Content © provided by NôvelDrama.Org.
I immediately withdrew my head from the window, clutching the book against my chest as my heart thudded loudly.
Did he see me?
I forgot that he has stronger senses than ordinary wolves.
He might have felt my presence and my stare.
I swallowed hard and started flipping the pages of the book in my hand, looking for the section I was reading while trying to shrug off the embarrassment of being caught gawking at him.
I was just checking who arrived.
There was nothing wrong with that, right?
But why did you hide when he looked up?
Arrow asked, and I just rolled my eyes at her.
Arrow wasn’t happy that I was trying to avoid Riley.
Of course, she would never understand me.
She was more concerned about being near her mate, and she could just disregard all logic.
But I couldn’t.
It didn’t take long before the door of the library opened and there he was, my mate, still looking as handsome as he was, even if he had been out all day.
“Hi…” He was the first one to break the silence, but he just stayed standing by the door.
My gaze darted down to his hand.
He was carrying a bouquet of flowers.
I swallowed hard before returning my gaze to his face.
“Can I come in?
I just want to give you this.
” He raised his hand, showing me the flowers.
“It’s your library.
So I guess you can.
” He didn’t say anything and stepped forward, and my heart just kept jumping all over the place.
I was trying to make sure all my walls were up, not letting him know how I felt at the moment.
“Did you eat dinner?
” He asked, and I nodded my head in response.
“These are for you.
I’m not sure what flowers you prefer, but I thought they were beautiful…” “Thank you.
” I took the bouquet of red roses and sniffed them before glancing up to meet his piercing blue eyes.
“Are you trying to woo me?
” He smiled sheepishly and I felt my panties drop but I kept my emotions in check, keeping my face void of any emotions.
He raised his hand to his neck and started rubbing it.
“Yes, it’s not working, right?
” “Yep, not working.
” I stood up and grabbed an empty vase that I thought could hold the whole bouquet and carefully placed the flowers there.
I just needed to add water later.
“I guess I have to try harder then.
” I suppressed my lips from curling into a smile and instead asked him a question.
“Where did you sleep last night?
In Andrea’s room?
RILEY.
“Where did you sleep last night?
In Andrea’s room?
” Nadia asked, while her back was on me as she placed the roses I gave her in the available vase.
My forehead creased.
Andrea didn’t have a room in the house anymore.
“No.
In my office.
” “The couch there is too small for you.
” “I slept in my chair.
” But the truth was, I didn’t sleep at all.
I sat awake the whole night with my office door open.
I was f*g scared that she would run away in the middle of the night.
I even hid all the car keys in the drawer of my table to make sure she would not have any access to them.
I totally forgot that she didn’t know how to drive.
The only time I fell asleep was on the ride to the other side of the territory.
And even then, I kept waking up and checking my phone because I told Jenny to contact me right away if she couldn’t find Nadia.
“You’re insane.
There are so many rooms in the house that you don’t need to cram into your chair.
” She turned around to face me, her eyes rolling as she crossed her arms against her chest.
Even if she was being hostile towards me, I would take this over the one where she wasn’t talking to me at all.
“I know.
But the bed won’t be the same without you on it.
” I told her, biting my lower lip as I gauged her reaction.
But she just shrugged her shoulders and turned her back on me and started fiddling with the roses, fixing them in her vase.
“You can sleep in the room tonight.
I can go back to my old room.
” She told me.
“No.
I don’t want you to sleep anywhere.
You’ll be sleeping there tonight.
I’m okay at my office.
” “Did you eat dinner?
” She changed the topic, and the hope rising in my chest that she would at least let me stay with her in the room was immediately wiped off.
“Yes.
” “Where did you eat?
” She turned around almost immediately and her eyes glared at me for a second before she dropped her gaze.
SP “In the car, we just bought fast food.
” “And lunch?
” “At the construction site.
” “Someone brought food in there?
” Her questions were confusing to me, but I just found myself answering her.
“No.
I ordered food for everyone there.
I don’t go there every day, so I thought I’d treat the workers and engineers who were working there today.
” She didn’t say anything and just grabbed the vase, holding it close to her chest as she made her way towards the door.
I let out a deep sigh as I watched her walk away from me.
“You can sleep in the room tonight, just make sure you stay on your side of the bed,” she said this in a low voice, but loud enough for me to hear before she walked out of the door.
The moment she disappeared from my sight, it was only then that her words sank in and I couldn’t help the smile that was slowly tugging onto my lips.
I guess the flowers worked.
