Chapter 21 – Roots of the Chosen
Sera hoped to find some calm when returning to Wolf Paws, unfortunately, what she found was pure chaos.
Students passed out, some sick and others screaming in pain.
“Sera. You are well.!” – Teacher Andromeda approached. “What a relief!”
The woman was pale, with messy hair and a tired countenance.
She helped them into the infirmary which was also not in such good condition. All the beds were occupied and there were more beds scattered on and off the site.
They put Karim in one of the beds and Doctor Ty watched him. She also looked tired.
“What happened, Sera?” – The doctor asked in her soft voice.
Sera wrote everything quickly. It was too much information for too little paper, but it boiled down to focusing only on the way Karim had been hit and what.
Ty got to work and Sera could only watch. She wondered if her friends were okay. Karim’s expression of pain, however, was her greatest concern at the time.

A few hours before, Thomas was restless. Elisa played in a small pool of balls they sent to him. Fortunately the room was spacious enough to behave such a toy. As his little girl laughed, he felt a vibration on her wrist, a watch abusing that there was a knock on the door.
Thomas sighed deeply and opened the door. Joshua stood on the other side with a smile on his face. Tom remembered the moments before his marriage, when the alpha still smiled at him like that and lacked an expression of indignation in his gaze.
The omega invited him in, trying not to be distracted by the past.
Joshua did, somewhat awkwardly. Not knowing how to act by being so close to Thomas again. He extended the papers he had found in his clan and set out to observe Elisa.
The child ran to him when he saw him. Joshua smiled and held her in his lap. She extended her chubby little hands towards him and the man kissed her. He still didn’t believe he had a daughter.
The girl clapped for her father and Thomas smiled, watching the scene. It was hard for him to forgive, he always would be. But Elisa was Joshua’s daughter and they deserved to have that connection.
Thomas started reading the papers. There were things that they already imagined or knew, such as some relationship with Mother and the wolves not hearing it and also as chosen of the great clans.
However, there was different information. Something that caught his attention. Something written in the ancient, Sanskrit language: चयन तस य म लम . Roots of the chosen.
Thomas observed the expression for a few minutes and indicated to Joshua that he was drooling with his daughter. Asking with the signage, what it meant.
Joshua put Elisa back in the toy and sat on the bed next to Thomas. They both tried not to feel tense by the proximity. However, there was no result.
“They say that everyone is a big tree and each clan is one of its roots. We come from the same place, bear the same burden and suffer the consequences of our ancestors. Each one differently, depending on the root from which you came.”
Thomas watched him, asking him to continue with a nod.
“These roots are active to this day. Where what was not completed by their ancestors must be done by their successors. The tree is the life that always charges for the nourishment that gives its roots.”
“And the chosen ones?” – Thomas signaled.
Joshua sighed.
“The chosen ones are the ones who had the chance to repay what they owe to the tree, to the Mother. Who were favored and blessed, however, by touching the roots they became corrupted and so did their family. Instead of helping and nourishing the roots, they have damaged them and now they no longer receive the nutrients.”
“That is, the curse. And we have to go back to nurturing the roots. But how?” – Thomas asked himself more than for Joshua.
“I know that still, we will find an answer.” – Joshua replied, approaching and almost kissing Thomas.
Thomas walked away, but Joshua quickly held him and made a sign of silence.
He indicated that Thomas would take Elisa and he did.
Joshua put his ear against the door and heard students screaming in fear and some falling. He knew it could be an enemy possession.
By saying it in old papers, everyone there would be immune, but Joshua couldn’t be sure. He stood in front of Thomas and Elisa, protecting them.
The screams could be heard and voices saying in unison, “Get out of the way. Get out of the way.”
Until some time later, everything calmed down. Thuds were heard, indicating that all, or almost, had fallen.
Probably the possession was over. Still, there was no courage to open the door.
Until a beep was heard near Thomas, it was the bracelet indicating Kyria outside the door.
Thomas opened it the moment the redhead was about to hit. Beside her was Nayssa, both with extremely messy hair.
“Have you become a soothsayer now?” – your sister laughed.
And without answering, Thomas invited them in.
“What happened?” – he asked, avoiding asking about the state of the two.
“We waited for the dust to settle and came to find you. Also, I worried about Sera. She’s in the infirmary by the looks of it. I tried to detect it before with the device, but, nothing. Suddenly, the location appeared.” – Kyria signaled.
Thomas did not expect that there was a place that his creation did not reach. Certainly, they needed improvement. His mind began to process thousands of upgrade ideas, however, Nayssa shook him. Indicating that they should go to Sera to understand what happened.
——
It was hard to go through so many beds and so many people along the way. In the end, they managed to get to the desired place.
Sera, she didn’t look well, she was pale and downcast. Besides, slightly injured in the arms and legs. Her clothes were dirty with dirt and blood, probably from whom she watched at the time, Karim.
Sera held his hand in a state of concern. The young man was unconscious and pale with wounds on his bandaged body.
Kyria approached and touched Sera’s shoulder. The young woman retracted at first. However, she soon accepted her friend’s embrace.
Sera’s lips trembled, tears of relief poured down her face and she squeezed tightly on Kyria’s navy blue jacket until the horrific memory of that day faded a little from her mind.
