Chapter 23 The sinister driver
Eric, seeing he had no chance to win, slipped away, leaving me in no mood to eat. I was still under the effect of the happenings, and I needed to remind myself the situation could have ended up so much worse if that man hadn't interrupted our argument, standing beside me. Feeling grateful to him for helping me out, I turned to him.
"Thank you, sir. If it weren't for you just now, I would have been in a mess."
Whilst I was talking to him, I could hear the others who witnessed the fight between me and Eric. The onlookers, who were looking for trouble earlier, seeing Eric's misfortune, started to gossip, saying that I was flirting around, having an affair with some wild man outside, and now someone was helping me so quickly.Content bel0ngs to Nôvel(D)r/a/ma.Org.
The man just glared at the troublemakers with a piercing look, and they were so scared that they didn't dare to speak and ran away.
This man had a clean scent about him. He was dressed in designer clothes that made him seem like he didn't belong to this place. I wondered what a man like him got to do in a place like this. I could imagine him in top restaurants with Michelin Star chefs preparing food for him, instead of a small eatery on a roadside.
My guardian stranger looked at me with a smile.
"If you are grateful, why not lend me some money for the cab fare?"
I was taken aback, as I didn't expect him to ask me such a question. It differed from what I was anticipated. The man was not polite either, very straightforward.
"I just arrived here, and my wallet fell in the car. I have no money to get back to the hotel. Beautiful lady, could you help me out?"
Actually, I had no reason to refuse. I didn't know if I could believe him or not, but it was really a small price to pay in exchange for what he had just done for me. I decided to help him out, of course. My lips curled up again while I glanced at him.
"Sure, where do you live? I'll take you back."
Since I had nowhere else to go, I would consider it as repaying his kindness.
My usual principle was not owing others, so I helped him happily.
The man looked at me dimly, lost in thoughts for a moment, and said, "I am Angus. What's your name?"
"Sissy."
Angus repeated it a few times, as if practising, but his deep voice was quite pleasant, as if savouring the name.
I felt puzzled again. I unwittingly thought about William. William had an aura that scared me, that sent a chill down my spine. Both men were good-looking, so why did I not feel as restrained and my heart not racing as much in front of Angus? Instead, I felt comfortable; safe and secure.
I got into the taxi and told the driver the name of the hotel. The driver glanced at me, then at Angus, and said to me. "Girl, your boyfriend is really handsome."
I was taken aback. As, apparently, I looked quite poor next to him.
"Master, you have misunderstood. He is my friend." I hastily explained.
"Not your boyfriend?" The driver looked at Angus, his smile turning somewhat strange and ambiguous.

I was puzzled once more, but Angus interjected.
"Master, I am still pursuing her, hoping she will agree to me soon."
Upon hearing this, the driver's earlier strange and ambiguous expression vanished, and he nodded a few times.
"Girl, he is so handsome. You should agree soon. In this day and age it isn't easy to meet a suitable man."
I only smiled. I didn't want to take the conversation further. Even though it was nice to sit there feeling secure, I didn't want him to feel that I was taking advantage of his kindness in case the driver wanted to ask or talk about this more. It wasn't until I got out of the car that I realised the driver seemed to have mistaken me for a woman looking for men outside.
Thinking of this, I felt a little embarrassment inside, hoping these thoughts wouldn't colour my face red.
I glanced at him, feeling grateful. He was truly a gentleman, very considerate, taking the initiative to express his pursuit and saving my face. The night could end up so much worse, but he appeared from nowhere and helped a strange girl to keep her dignity.
We arrived in the lobby of the Hilton hotel. The beauty of the building took aback me. Only guessing how much a room cost here, but I knew I was right when I thought he was kinda rich. I was waiting for him, while he requested and got a new key card for his room from the front desk. That made me sure he also told me the truth about his lost wallet.
After they handed the new card to him, I realised my present became unnecessary. I had nothing to do there, so I looked at him with a smile.
"Since you are back, I will leave now."
He smiled back at me, and he handed me a business card. I took it, glanced at it, and put it into my wallet.
"Sissy, it is nice to meet you as a friend. I hope we have the chance to meet again."
I smiled at him. Honestly, I didn't think I would meet him again. We lived in a different world, so we were certain that our ways wouldn't cross each other again.
I didn't say a word. I put my wallet back into my bag, and I pushed open the revolving door, and left the hotel.
**Angus's POV**
As I watched Sissy to leave, I swiped my card into the elevator, not heading back to my room but to the club on the top floor.
The door opened, and I could hear the loud music instantly. The club with the music, filled with coloured lights and wine, looked lively. I stepped in, watching as men and women intertwined. I passed through the crowd, went up to the second floor, and saw several women naked, entwined with a man.
"Ah... ah... harder, f*** me, f*** me."
