That promise came to an end for one of them three years later, as Nicholas was the first to go due to his heart, which began to fail until it simply stopped beating one cold December morning.

Despite the immense pain she felt, Deborah fulfilled her father's last wish... so they buried him with the diamond pendant that had belonged to her mother and grandfather.

It was a very sad time, and everyone came together to keep Deborah from falling apart, as she now felt alone, as though she had lost her family again.

But her children reminded her that she wasn't alone, and because of this, they tried to distract her by having her organize the Christmas party.

The days continued to pass, and just when they were preparing for James' wedding, Eric and Samantha Cooper passed away due to old age.

That was news that covered all the media outlets, with the headline telling a beautiful love story, as they had gone to sleep together and passed away to the next life in the same way.

It was a double blow for Jayden... because he didn't expect to say goodbye to them at the same time. Luckily, he had a pair of teenagers who didn't let him fall apart, and everyone else tried to cheer him up... including his new daughter-in-law.

"It's funny... I already pictured myself making pajamas with my old man because we would move into his house so James could live in the main house with Lorraine," Jayden said one afternoon while sitting in the living room with his wife. "Hmm... me too, honey."

"Dad, I've already asked to start some renovations on the extra house for you, and I'm also going to request that a few rooms get repainted."

"Thanks, son," Jayden said, smiling at him.

"By the way," James began, "Lorraine and I have been talking, and if you want... we can postpone the wedding plans a bit."

"No, son, don't do that," Deborah scolded him. "Remember what your grandparents said: remember us in your joys, so we'll go ahead with the wedding."

A year later, Deborah and Jayden were sitting in a church, watching their eldest son marry the love of his life.

"Exactly. And if you'd like, we could also plan some romantic getaways around the world."

"Ooh. I like that plan," Deborah said, using a flirtatious tone. "But what about the kids?"

"They're grown up now, aren't they?"

"Hey!" At that moment, the couple heard their four children complain, and as they blinked, they noticed all the guests were watching them, and the whole wedding had come to a stop because of them. "Oops..." Jayden said, making his children laugh.

"Well, if you two go on a trip, I'm coming with you," Michael said, hugging his mother.

All the guests laughed, seeing that, despite the years, they were still in love as they had been the first day they confessed their feelings for each other.

Certainly, a lot had happened, and there was still more to come, but they knew everything would be fine because they had their children, who would support them from now on.

And although they didn't tell their children, Jayden and Deborah made a promise to themselves to follow the example of Jayden's parents: when one of them passed away, the other would soon follow. At this stage of their lives, they couldn't imagine living without each other's company.
