Chapter 1956 At the Restaurant

Cindy didn’t understand what he was saying. “What do you mean?”

Gary reclined back into his chair and placed his hands on his lap. “Were you also this timid when you were working as Ian’s assistant?”

“Oh.” Cindy smiled. “I didn’t have to do much when I was working as his assistant. I just needed to handle the little things in his day-to-day work, so I was fine.” ConTEent bel0ngs to Nôv(e)lD/rama(.)Org .

Gary sighed ruefully. “I’ve seen a lot of ladies working in this industry. All of them want to shine as brightly as they can.”

After all, they had to fight to get most of the resources in the industry. If someone were to be too laid back, they wouldn’t even get any job at all. The celebrities’ assistants were also fighting among themselves too. The stars had their own circle, and so did the assistants. The assistants would also compare themselves with one another and fight to get the best resources.

Gary had come in contact with some celebrities’ assistants before. It wasn’t a comprehensive experience, since he didn’t meet every single assistant, but most of the assistants were tough to get along with. Their employers spoiled them, so they would always act haughty around everyone else. That was why he felt odd that Cindy took things so easily. She was calm, and she never fought with anyone. Gary thought she was too gentle.

Someone like her wasn’t suitable for the industry. It was a dog-eat-dog world, and one wrong step

would be deadly.

Cindy thought about it for a moment. “Maybe it’s because of Ian. He’s a gentle one, so the people around him were probably affected.”

The driver might be a macho man, but he was gentle too. Cindy had seen the chat group the driver was in, and it was filled with a lot of vulgar messages. However, he never did say anything, so it was obvious that he was different from the other men.

Gary was quiet for a moment, then he asked how Cindy met Ian.

Cindy and Ian never did talk about that. They would tell everyone that they had been dating for a long time if someone brought it up. However, they never did talk about how they met and fell in love. Because of that, the question caught Cindy off guard.

She pursed her lips and tilted her head to the side. She even put on a cheeky expression. “I was still pursuing my degree, and Ian was working part time at a bar. My friend and I went to the bar for a drink, and that was how we met.”

I hope that ad lib worked. Cindy’s heart was thumping furiously. She made a note of what she said to Gary so that she could tell Ian after she got back and keep the lie from being exposed.

Gary nodded. “I see. That’s quite a bit of luck then.”

“Yeah.” Cindy laughed. “We met a few times after that, and things took off from there. You know he’s handsome, and I used to be a sucker for hot guys, so I gravitated toward him.” She chuckled. “Looks do help a lot.”

Gary thought about it, then he nodded. “You can say that.”

They made some small talk. Cindy never knew Gary could be so talkative. She thought successful men like him never talked much, and Gary looked like a calm and collected person. She thought he was a man of few words, but after talking to him, she realized he could be humorous and crack jokes when he wanted to. He was great at livening things up, so Cindy got curious. She asked, “Don’t you have a girlfriend, Mr. Frye?”

Before he answered her question, Gary laughed. “I bet you think that I should have a girlfriend, right? Everyone thinks that’s the normal thing to do.”

Well, I didn’t say that. Cindy shook her head. “I think that you’re a capable and attractive man. Women would gravitate toward you easily.”
