CHAPTER 12
Nathan’s POV
“What?” I shouted and became embarrassed afterwards.
“I don’t know you have children”, I, said faking a smile.
“Yes I have a two- year- old twin” she replied confidently as she packed some things inside her bag.
“Okay, wow, you can close then” I said, as my brain trying to process what I heard.
“Okay, sir”, she took her bag and left.
Immediately she left I started fidgeting, How come she has children? I don’t even know what to think, did she get pregnant for her fiancee and then not marry him? Maybe she got pregnant for him and then, they break up, or could they be my kids? I don’t think so though. The sex I had with her was just a quick get- in and -out, it wouldn’t have resulted into pregnancy.
I have thousands of thoughts running through my damn head. At this point, I think I might go crazy, I can’t think of anything anymore. Let me just get home and relax.
I dialed my phone and called James “Hey, get the car ready”.
I managed to enter the elevator and get to the car garage. I got into the car. “Where is the destination sir”, he inquired.
“Home”.
“You are going home earlier than expected today, hope all is fine sir?” He asked with deep concern.
“Just drive, James and don’t try to engage me in a conversation” I said harshly as I fastened the seat belt.
“Okay sir” he bowed down his head courteously and sped up.
After I got home and had shower, I couldn’t eat. Even though I hadn’t eaten throughout the day, I just got into my bed reminiscing and feeling bothered about her and her kids.
I should know the truth about the kids. I shouldn’t be stupid to ignore the fact that the children might be a coincidence. This is too close for it to be a coincidence.
Maybe a paternity test could prove it, but how do I even get a sample? I spent the rest of the evening thinking about the possibility of getting a sample when I slept off…
**************
I woke up earlier than expected the next day. I couldn’t get a good sleep; I just kept rolling on my bed, unable to fall asleep. Every time I closed my eyes, my mind flashed back to the kids, and I became restless. The hours ticked by slowly, and I just knew the rest I needed wouldn’t come no matter how hard I tried.
I took my bath, got dressed into something simple, and smart, and left for the office without seeing any of the workers.
I needed to see her and confirm it somehow before I drop dead. I should be able to bring up a conversation that will cause her to open up to me or better still lead me to something.
I went into the hospital building without responding to greetings from the employees. I just wanted to see her, nobody else mattered. I got into the office and she wasn’t around yet, I checked the Rolex watch on my wrist and the time reads 7:28 a. m. oh it’s not even 8a. m. yet? From NôvelDrama.Org.
I went into the office and sat down. I tried working, but I can’t concentrate and I became frustrated,
“Nathan focus. Focus on the task at hand”, I shouted angrily, as though rebuking myself for getting distracted.
After some minutes I heard a gentle knock on the door
“Come in”, it was Judith. A breath of relief and peace enveloped me, she came in looking beautiful and smart, wearing a silky blue gown that clung to her skin, flaunting her sexy features and a pair of black medium heels.
“Good morning sir, I know you said I should always use the phone but I just came in when I heard the noise. I thought to check on you”
“Oh, I’m fine. Just a little problem”, I said in a low voice
“I hope I’m not crossing my boundaries, sir, but problems and hurdles are part of life. They help us grow, learn, unlearn and relearn. The world wouldn’t be fun without them, and I hope you always have the strength to deal with your problems and find peace”.
“Thank you so much, Judith “, she definitely knows how to comfort one with her reassuring speech.
Anytime, sir, so let me go make your coffee”, she said, sounding professional.
I gave her a fake smile and she walked out with the sound of her heels echoing in the office.
She came back some minutes later with the coffee, and I just couldn’t bring myself to ask her or get any clue from her. She looked peaceful and happy, like life had always been good to her, she seemed like one without any problems.
We did the work for the day, and I must say she is adjusting well, and learning smart, she seems capable of much more if given the chance.
The phone rang and she said “I will be closing now, sir, its 4pm already.
“Okay, you need to pick up your kids from nursery school”.
“Yes sir”, she replied happily
I noticed any topic about her kids seems to put her in another realm of happiness. She seemed super grateful and happy for the gift of them. I dropped the call when a thought crossed my mind.
Why not secretly follow her and clear your thoughts and doubts? It might not be much of a help, but you get to see the kids, and maybe might find out something.
I picked up my phone and call James. “Come to the garage with the car now” I said authoritatively
“Yes, let’s go see the damn kids”, I muttered as I slammed the door shut….
