The Millionaire And His Billionaire Ex-Wife

Chapter 66

Chapter 66

Chapter 66 The two locked eyes, with Emma conceding defeat, her teeth gritted in frustration. “Alright! I’m giving you this one shot, but if anything should happen to my daughter, I swear I’ll fight you till my last breath!” With Emma out of the way, Grace walked into the ward unhindered, ordering her bodyguards to lift Hedda onto a stretcher. Under Emma’s reluctant and apprehensive gaze, Hedda was taken away. By the time Grace returned to Patric’s villa, it was already 10 o’clock in the evening. The remnants of the sunset painted the sky in tender shades of orange, casting a soft glow over the entire Frant City. Patric set up Hedda in one of the guest rooms, then sat with Grace, mulling over their next move. Hedda’s face was peaceful, her eyes closed as if in a serene sleep. “Her condition seems stable, all vitals are within normal range.” Patric received a medical report from their personal physician, rubbing his chin thoughtfully. Grace grabbed the report, her eyes sweeping over Hedda on the bed, her eyebrows knitting together in concern. “Waking a patient in a vegetative state is no cakewalk. The Mellis family has thrown money at renowned doctors from all over the world to no avail. If we’re to make any progress with Hedda, we’ll have to pull out all the stops.” Patric’s fingers drummed lightly on the coffee table, turning the ashtray around. “What do you mean?” A flicker of confusion passed through Grace’s eyes. “You cheeky little thing, have you forgotten?” Patric gently knocked on her head. “Did you forget about your brother Chad, the medical wh iz with a Master’s degree? Not many can question his expertise and authority.”

Lightbulb moment for Grace – she’d lost touch with the Smith family for so long that she’d completely forgotten how brilliant her elder brother Chad was. “But… Chad is usually a bit of a recluse, not one for words. And he’s tied up with his work in Wind City, I’m not sure he’d be keen to help.’

Grace’s joy wasn’t clouding her judgement, she spoke thoughtfully after mulling it over. “Just to play it safe, I’ll go to Wind City to find him personally. Even if it means dragging him back to Frant City.” Hedda was a crucial piece of the puzzle, she had to make sure every step of the plan was executed without a hitch. Edgar had promised the public and media a five day deadline. And now, two days had already passed. She planned to turn the situation around In three days, so there was no time to dilly dally. “Patric, time and tide wait for none. I’ll pop over to Wind City tonight to fetch Chad.” Grace hoisted 劃區 her bag onto her shoulder. “In such a rush? I’m not fond of private jets, so can’t have you chauffeured.” Patric was a little worried. “No need. There’s still a flight to Wind City in the evening. I’ll take a regular plane.” As Grace Salen prepared, she continued, “Make sure you keep the ball rolling! Up the ante on the villa’s security!” Patric watched her recede into the night, shaking his head. “Got it, little girl! You’re always in such a hurry.” Sarah lounged in the bathtub filled to the brim with bubbles and roses, hoping to soak away the day’s weariness. Every now and then, she’d check her phone for any new messages. Since she’d been dragged off Gravel Mountain by Elon earlier that day, she’d been angry.

Despite knowing that her hired help would likely drop the ball after Patric and Edgar came storming in, her stubborn side still kept a vigil on her movements. “Miss. Grammer, there’s news. Grace appears to be making a beeline for a swanky hospital in Wind City. She left in a tearing hurry and is set to catch tonight’s flight.” Sarah jerked up from her bath, scanning the message over and over, suspicion brewing. While Abigail did get a shellacking, her injuries weren’t a matter of life and death. The experienced medics in Frant City would have been more than enough to patch her up. Why then was Grace creating a hullabaloo, hotfooting it to a Wind City hospital in the dead of night? She dialed up Nancy immediately but got zilch. “Go wrong at a critical moment!” Sarah, gnashing her teeth in frustration, tossed her phone aside, scrambled into her clothes, and made a beeline for the city hospital under cover of darkness. The VIP ward, a haven of tranquility, was steeped in silence. After Sarah cleared her identity with the bodyguards posted outside, she slipped in quietly. “Why’s your phone off when I’m trying to reach you?” Sarah shot her an irked glance, “You had me hoofing it over here in the middle of the night.” “I’d been caught on a call by Edgar in the day. Since then, my phone’s been bugged by his men. I had no other choice.” After explaining, Nancy asked with a hint of desperation, “Is our plan still on track? No hitches, I hope?” “No kidding, that young lass can actually pull out some fancy ju-jitsu. Those loafers we sent stood no chance.” The mention of this botched operation set Sarah very angry, “I had people dig into her itinerary. Turns out, she’s heading to a hospital in Wind City tonight. Go d knows what she’s up to.” Nancy was equally puzzled upon hearing this. “A hospital in Wind City? You sure your people didn’t get their wires crossed?” “What are you implying? The folks I employ are handpicked by the Grammer family. Their intel is Entre a wil NôvelDrama.Org content.

solid gold.” Sarah’s face hardened. “Then why would she go to a hospital in Wind City? Wait a second, hospital… a hospital in Wind City!” As if a light bulb went off in her head, Nancy suddenly jolted, “You need to send someone to the first VIP room on the fourth floor, check if Hedda’s still there! Quickly!” “Keep your hair on! I’m sorting it out.” Sarah shot her a disdainful look before instructing Elon, as per Nancy’s words, to ascend to the fourth floor. A while later, Elon returned to Nancy’s ward with a grave look on his face. “Miss. Mellis, Ms. Hedda is nowhere to be found.” “I know it!” Nancy paled, her grip tightening on the bedsheet corner, “What now? It’s that bi tch Grace who must’ve whisked her away! If they trace that previous incident back to us…” But Sarah remained nonchalant. “What’s with the jitters? Just need to find Hedda. Grace too, I won’t let her off the h ook that easily.” Nancy was still restless, “You make it sound like a cakewalk. Has she boarded the plane? We’re out of options! If she indeed has a way to cure Hedda, what then…” Cold dread crept up her spine, forbidding her to contemplate any further. Seeing her in this state, Sarah rolled her eyes, “I’ve already sent someone to suss it out. There’s still an hour and a half before she’s scheduled to fly. Enough time for me to put a plan in motion.” “I’m aware of her ju-jitsu skills. This time, I’ll recruit a few tough-as-nails hitters to quietly take care of her in the cabin. Then, who’s left to rain on our parade? With a gleam of triumph in her eyes, Sarah reached for her phone, ready to set things in motion. “Hold up!” Nancy stopped her with a swift gesture, revealing a sly smile as she met Sarah’s questioning gaze. “I might have someone even better up my sleeve!”
