The Mafia Boss's Pet Wife

On the Edge of the abyss

The night was cold, and the wind howled against the windows, as if it wanted to invade my sanctuary. I lay in bed, unable to sleep. His presence seemed to fill every corner, even when he wasn't there. Every word he spoke echoed in my mind, and every touch burned on my skin.

Then I heard footsteps in the hallway. My heart raced. It was him. Before I could react, the door opened slowly, and he entered the room, his gaze as intense as ever.

"You're awake," he stated rather than asked.

"I couldn't sleep," I replied, sitting up and pulling the blanket closer to my body, as if it could shield me from what was about to happen.

He walked closer, his steps deliberate and steady. "That's good. It means you're thinking. Thinking about me."

I rolled my eyes, though I knew he was right. "What do you want now?"

"I want to show you something," he said, extending his hand to me.

I hesitated, frozen. My instincts screamed not to trust him, but there was something in his eyes that pulled me in, something I couldn't ignore. Reluctantly, I placed my hand in his, and he guided me out of the bed.

He led me down a hallway I hadn't explored before. The walls were adorned with paintings, each more elaborate than the last. The silence was broken only by the sound of our footsteps and the occasional gust of wind against the windows. "Where are we going?" I asked, my voice softer than I intended.

"You'll see," he replied enigmatically.

We stopped in front of a massive wooden door. He opened it, revealing a dimly lit room filled with candles. At the center stood an elegant table draped with a satin cloth, adorned with a silver tray holding wine glasses and a bottle of wine. But what caught my attention the most was the bed in the corner, veiled with sheer curtains.

"What is this?" I asked, swallowing hard.NôvelDrama.Org owns all content.

"A test," he replied, closing the door behind us. "I want to see how far you're willing to go."

My heart pounded. "And if I don't want to take part in this 'test'?"

He stepped closer, his gaze burning into mine. "Then you'll leave here without knowing what you're truly capable of. But I know you're curious, Sophia. I know you want to understand why you're here, why I chose you." I crossed my arms, trying to mask my unease. "You think you can manipulate me so easily?"

He smiled, a dangerous, self-assured smile. "It's not manipulation if you want it."

The wine was poured, and he handed me a glass. Hesitant, I sat in the chair across from him, feeling like a chess player about to make the first move in a game I didn't understand.

"Why me?" I finally asked, breaking the silence. "What did you see in me?"

He tilted his head, as if carefully considering the question. "I saw potential. I saw someone who hides behind a facade of strength but is broken inside. And I saw someone who could be reborn... if shaped the right way." "I'm not a project," I shot back, my voice tinged with anger. "I don't need fixing."

"We all do, in some way," he said calmly but firmly. "But you don't have to accept that now. All you have to do is be willing to explore."

I was torn. A part of me wanted to run from the room, but another part was intrigued, drawn to him in a way that didn't make sense. He was enigmatic, intimidating... and irresistible.

Hours seemed to pass as we talked. He had an unsettling ability to make me feel at ease while leaving me completely vulnerable. His eyes never left mine, as if he could read every thought I tried to hide.

Finally, he stood and walked toward me slowly. "Tonight's lesson is simple, Sophia," he said, leaning in to whisper in my ear. "Trust. You'll never have real control unless you learn to trust... me." "That's not going to happen," I said, my voice trembling.

He only smiled, his fingers brushing against my cheek before pulling back. "We'll see."

When he left the room, leaving me alone, I realized I had been holding my breath. I was playing with the unknown, and the danger was as seductive as it was terrifying.
