Chapter 6
David was petrified by Mia’s piercing look, and for a moment, he was
as at a loss for words, managing only a sheepish grin. “Mia, there you are
As Mia’s gaze subtly swept across the group around David, she spoke in a low but pointed voice. “Uncle David, if you’re planning something you’d better run it by Grandpa and me first. We’re not exactly swimming in cash to waste on new ventures right now?”
Her words hit like a slap, and David’s face flushed with irritation. Yet, he was in no position to fight back, lacking any legitimate claim to leadership —a fact made even clearer by Mia’s grandfather, Logan Reed’s efforts to bring her back to take over the company.

Without waiting for a response, Mia brushed past David, making her way into the villa.
Upstairs, Mia gently pushed open the door to her grandfather’s room and was immediately greeted by Logans coughing. He propped up in bed, his face ashen. “How did it go at the Eldoria Group Those old Foxes can be a handful.”
Ive got enough dirt on them to keep them in line. Thanks to the info you provided and my recent investigations, Mia responded as she tucked the blanket around him. His hand, warm despite his illness, rested on hers
“You’re sharp, Mia, but sometimes too soft–hearted.” Logan remarked.
Gazing at her toes. Mix replied softly, “Grandpa, I’m holding up just fine”
I know you’ve been through hell these past five years.”
“Every day, I regret that I failed to protect you back then. You must’ve been devastated. I’d be relieved if you no longer hold grudges against me,” Logan continued, his eyes clouded with guilt
Mia shook her head, her tone calm and reassuring “Grandpa, don’t burden yourself. All the evidence was against me, and I knew you did what you had to do to keep me safe.” If Logan had not let them throw her out from the Reed family. Maa’s fate would have been even worse, like being wrongfully imprisoned for the murders of her parents, which she didn’t commit.
A light cough escaped Logan as he expressed relief. Im glad you came around. You are out of Matthew’s league, after all. Your decision to come back to us…means everything to me”
Mia’s eyes dimmed with a trace of sadness. Even though she could maintain a serene facade, any mention of that name still stung her heart, like a sharp thorn buried deep in her heart. He had been her world for five years, her one great love. But now, she was determined to move forward, knowing there was nothing left for her in that past–especially since she’d never truly held a place in his heart.
“Grandpa, I get it,” Mia whispered, her tone calm with reassurance. “Don’t worry, I’ll protect our family’s legacy and everything my parents worked so hard to build.”
As she left Logan’s room, she found Eliot waiting with an envelope. “Ms Reed, here are the documents you requested,” he said, holding them out. She glanced at them but didn’t take them. “Any movementi from David?” she inquired.
“Mr. David Reed has been holed up in his study. The servants said his discussion with Mr. Gower was strictly behind closed doors.” Eliot reported “Do you think he’s up to something?”
There’s definitely something going on, but my dear Uncle David is nothing but a wass,” said Mia, her words meaningful.
Five years ago, David had contributed greatly to her ouster from the Reed family: But now, after a series of unfortunate deaths of their family members, David was the last of her blood relations.
Upon her return, Mia had initially suspected David, but an investigation revealed that while he had a motive, he lacked the means to make his
schemes come true.
“Ms. Reed, could it be that Mr. David Reed made a foolish move, risking it all to take over the family business? Eliot cautiously gueurd.
“He might be foolish, but definitely not foolhardy, Mia replied coldly, her gaze handened. “Even if the entire Reed family were to perish, he could never become the patriarch” She was confident in that, knowing David, her only competitor, was born out of wedlock.
