Chapter 1 The man at the bar
Hard work always yields success. That was what Mavis’s father taught her and her sister, Lisa. So far it had proven to be very helpful to her, though she didn’t follow in the footsteps of her multi-millionaire mother who was an Estate manager, she did very well as a yoga instructor. That had put food on her table and she was able to fend for her little sister Lisa and Lisa’s twin brother Luke who were both in high school.
There was however one aspect in Mavis’s life that no matter what she did or how hard she tried she always failed terribly – her relationship. The only people with whom she shared a good relationship were her siblings and her late father. She had her mother to blame for the adjective “late” that followed her father’s name. Her mother had a very good relationship with her husband as well as her children until a certain man called Frederick caused their mother to cheat on their father.
Since then Mavis’s mother got secretive and continued her affair with Frederick. It wasn’t long after she divorced their father, calling him useless and unmanly because he was a stay-at-home dad to her children. After begging her several times, he suffered a heart attack and died. Mavis never forgave her mother after that. Immediately after his funeral ended she took her siblings under her wings.
Barely three days later, Damon cheated on her and that was when Mavis decided that she was done with it, men. Every heartbreak she suffered was a result of her partner cheating on her and she got tired of being the good girl. “For once just be the villain, don’t let Damon get away with this! Make him regret it!” Lisa said to Mavis after she broke down and told her about Damon’s betrayal.
That night Mavis went to the club for the first time since her two-year relationship with Damon but she didn’t go alone, her friends Amy, Darla, and Gale were there with her. She found it so strange now, the music, the smell of booze, the dancing, kissing – she almost turned around to leave as the sight shocked her.
“The hell is wrong with you? Have you forgotten that you were once a sexy, badass bitch whenever the four of us went clubbing?” Amy scolded Mavis.
“Don’t worry about her guys, all she needs is one drink and she’ll be back to being the old Mavis,” Darla said mischievously and they all laughed as they held her by her hands and led her to the counter they ordered some drinks.
“Guys come on, this is just – you know I shouldn’t be drinking. That’s not advisable right now huh? I want to get over this breakup –”
“– and there is plenty of male specimens to do that for you baby girl,” Gale replied in an excited yell because the music was so loud.
Mavis looked at the bottle of whiskey and gulped because it had been so long since she tasted it, Damon didn’t like to see her drunk because she was beyond wild. When she realized how much she had sacrificed the things she loved because of Damon she got so angry that she just drank a shot of whiskey before proceeding to gulp down the whole content of the bottle of whiskey while the whole club cheered her on. Their cheers overpowered the sound of the music when she finished it and wiped her lips with a villainous smirk.
“Mavis, are you still heartbroken?” Amy yelled but Mavis stood up, adjusted her gown, and removed her hair band, unleashing her thick, wavy, black hair which caused another round of cheers as she said, “Fuck that motherfucker, he don’t mean shit to me! DJ, drop the beat for this hoe!”
She went straight to the dance floor and when she started to dance her friends knew that every single man at the club would be lined up to take her home. As far as they were concerned, their job here was done.ConTEent bel0ngs to Nôv(e)lD/rama(.)Org .
” Woah, she’s wasted but she dances like she’s not…that’s just hot.” A guy said to Amy. She laughed and looked at the guy, he wasn’t so bad looking so she decided to respond to his statement. ” I know a lot of men who would be wasted after a bottle of whiskey but Mavis is just built differently. It’ll take more than a bottle of whiskey to get her drunk.”
” For real? That’s sick” he said and she smiled. ” I don’t think she’s into short dudes though,” Amy said and he laughed because he was tall. ” Well good thing I’m into you, not her.” That statement sealed their discussion and led to Amy leaving the club with him.
After dancing her heart out, she went back to order more drinks. Sure enough, men started making moves at her but she turned them all down. She kept it up until a certain man sat on the stool next to her. All it took to get her attention was one question.
” Don’t you think you’ve drank enough?” he asked. His voice was deep, smooth, and persuasive. Mavis turned to look at him, when she saw his face she began to suspect that she must’ve drank too much truly because she had never seen a man like that before.
Blaine stared at the woman who has caught everyone’s attention since she entered the club timidly, only for her to down a bottle of whiskey and seduce every man present with her sensual moves. He watched every single man hit on her without any luck and it only made him more desirous of her.
” Who the hell do you think you are to tell me about my drinking habits huh?” the woman asked him, he recalled her name was Mavis and smiled at her because he could sense that her alcohol tolerance was very high. She didn’t even seem tipsy a bit.
” Someone’s tolerance level is pretty high I see.” He said and chuckled while still staring at Mavis intensely.
” Damn he’s sexy,” Mavis thought as she sized him up. He was huge and muscular and his mullet was one of a kind. But that wasn’t what caught her attention the most, it was the way he had the three features in a man that she couldn’t ignore. Obsidian eyes, cleft chin, and a flashing smile – he had them all and that was all she needed to know that she was screwed.
