Eleven
As soon as they returned to the office, Anders handed Veil a trailer load of files to type and edit.
“Make them available before the meeting with HT ventures.”
Veil’s eyes grew wide as she glanced between the four stacks of neatly piled files. How can anyone do such work in less than three hours? She grimaced as she thought about it. Deep down, she knew he was deliberately doing all this as revenge, else, she couldn’t tell any other reason why he made her suffer every day at the office.
She picked up the documents, turned on her heels, and left for her office.
While she was at it, she almost didn’t realize it was noon. Until Simon knocked on her door and peeked in.
“You’re not coming for lunch?”
“Uh… Hi Simon, sorry, I can’t. I have to finish up these files and submit them before Mr. Rodriguez’s One o’clock meeting. Luckily, I’ll be done in a few minutes.” She yawned, stretched, and then smiled at him.
“You look hungry,” Simon noted and Veil nodded in confirmation.
“I am hungry. But, this is what I signed up for when I decided to apply for this job, so it’s fine. You should go eat, don’t let me be the reason you skip lunch.” She smiled at him.
Simon nodded, “If you say so.”
Veil smiled and watched him leave. As soon as the door closed behind him, she sighed, slouched, and yawned again. She was supper hungry. She hadn’t been able to eat a sustainable amount of food earlier, not with Anders being there all the while. Plus, who takes steak and a few lettuce leaves for a meal? “What a petty eater.” She mumured.
“Hurry up Veil, it’s almost twelve-thirty.” Encouraging herself, she sat up and started punching on her keyboard. When she was done, she saved the file and then printed them out.Belonging to NôvelDrama.Org.
She stretched tiredly and smiled with relief. “All done.” At least she could catch a few bites of food before twelve-thirty. She excitedly made for the door, and her table phone suddenly rang. She hurried back to her desk, and as she picked it up, Anders’ authoritative voice came.
“Be here in three minutes.” He said and hung up.
Instantly, Veil packed up the edited files and hurried out of her office. When she got to Anders’ door, she knocked and without waiting for his answer, she walked in.
“Mr. Rodriguez, here are the files you asked me to edit.”
As she put the files down on Anders’ desk, he stared between her and the files. How had she finished those in the space of three hours?
“You didn’t just print these, did you?”
“No, Mr. Rodriguez. I typed, edited, and printed. Just as you asked me to. Although it was a lot of hard work which I believe was the reason behind it in the first place.” Veil said, murmuring the rest of the words to herself.
“Prepare for my one o’clock meeting. We leave in five.”
Veil’s eyes narrowed at him in anger, but she couldn’t do anything other than stamp her feet angrily when she was out of his office.
Veil’s stomach rumbled as she drove to HT Ventures. A forty-two-story building situated in the heart of Los Angeles.
“We are here, Mr. Rodriguez.” She informed him as she pulled into a space at the side of the road. She hurried out of the driver’s seat and opened the door for him. As they entered the building’s first floor, some men in suits stood by the door, awaiting him.
“Mr. Rodriguez…” A ginger-haired man in a gray suit approached him. “Welcome to HT Ventures, it’s an honor to have you here.”
The man offered his hand, and Anders shook it briefly.
“This way, please…” The ginger-haired man said, ushering Anders towards an elevator.
They walked into the elevator, and one of the men pressed a button indicating the fortieth floor.
From the side of Anders’s eyes, he saw one of the men, an advanced blonde, checking Veil out from behind, his countenance suddenly turned unfriendly.
The elevator opened up on the fortieth floor and the men led Anders inside a conference room. He claimed the seat at the head of the long oval table, and the rest of the men sat around. Whereas the blonde man from earlier followed Veil to a seat she was occupying at the far end of the table. Anders’ eyes followed the blonde man raptly and when Ander saw him sitting next to Veil, his eyes narrowed in anger.
The other executives commenced the meeting ignorant of Anders’ blazing fury
As the meeting went on, Veil could feel Anders’ intense gaze in her way and when she glanced at him, she confirmed it. She didn’t know why he had his grey eyes narrowed furiously in her direction, but it sure was uncomfortable.
Veil shifted her gaze from Anders and forced herself to concentrate on writing the minutes of the meeting. But, as if Anders’ Ireful gray eyes constricted at her wasn’t enough, the foolish blonde executive next to her was getting seemingly too close to her. Searching for excuses to touch her.
He placed a hand on her naked knee and was attempting to trail Veil’s lap against her will. Veil tried to take care of the situation without getting the attention of the others in the room and distracting the meeting. She couldn’t afford to offend the men, especially Anders’. She couldn’t risk distracting the meeting. But could such go unnoticed by Anders whose rapt attention lay fixed on her?
“You’re fired!”
The suddenness of his voice, the sharpness of his tone, and the dangerous aura reeking around him sent everyone into perplexity. Veil included.
Anders pointed in the direction of the blonde executive sitting next to Veil.
“I don’t want to see that disgusting face the next time I’m here.” His tone was ruthless, his gaze at the executive was dark and he looked altogether dangerous.
As he rose from his seat, the confused executives, got up as well and so did Veil. She too could barely tell the reason for his sudden display of ruthlessness. Had he seen all that? He strode out of the conference room with Veil hurrying behind him. The executives bowed slightly until he was out of their sight.
Anxiously, Veil drove in silence to the office. Her heart was pounding nervously in her chest as she tried her hardest to keep her hands straight on the wheel. With her stomach thundering with hunger, and her heart racing nervously, she didn’t know which to control.
She thought to turn on some cool music, but Anders stopped her before she could execute her thoughts. Veil swallowed hard and took her shaky hand back.
