She is missing
Roman’s POV
“Are you leaving already, sir?” The receptionist at the front desk of my office asked as I strode out of my office.
“Yeah, I’ve got somewhere important to be.” I replied, handing Nathan my briefcase and car keys.
My hands were tremoring so badly, and I knew I couldn’t drive in that sort of nervous condition.
I had no idea what I was supposed to do to salvage my ruined relationship with both Sofie and Damien.
But most especially, with Sofie.
The blossoming relationship that I had single-handedly destroyed because of my stupid ego and immaturity.
Damien had also mentioned something about Sofie having complications with the pregnancy, but my head was too far up my ass for me to deduce what he was saying.
I knew Sofie wouldn’t easily forgive me even if I apologized but it was okay, because I brought it upon myself.
If only I hadn’t uttered such derogatory words toward her, if only I didn’t give her a toxic response when she asked if I wanted kids in the future.
She wasn’t the cause of my childhood trauma. I had no idea why I had acted like a conceited fool.
“Did something happen, sir? I saw Attorney Mauricio leave earlier, and he looked quite pissed.” Nathan began, moments later as he drove me to the mansion.
“Yeah, something bad happened. I may have ruined everything with my own fucking hands.” My chuckle was devoid of humor as I shook my head.
He darted me a concerned look through the rearview mirror, and I scoffed.
“Watch where you are going, Nathan.” I instructed and he immediately steered his focus back to the road.
“Is it with miss Sofie? Did something happen to her?”
“For heaven’s sake, Nathan! Just focus on driving, I will take care of it.” I snapped.
I fished my cellphone out of my pocket and tapped on the screen to see whether I missed any of Sofie’s calls but the home screen just stared blankly at me, devoid of any useful notification other than messages from the network service providers.
“Fuck this!” I cursed, as I carelessly flung my phone beside me.
I had called Sofie for about a trillion times now, yet all I got was no response. Initially, her phone rang for a while, and she didn’t pick up but the last three times I called her, her line had been switched off.
So even if I wanted to track down her location, I couldn’t.
It was understandable, she probably didn’t want to speak to me after how I had treated her last night.
The thought that I had pushed her to the floor without knowing that she was pregnant, caused the guilt within me to triple.
And to think I had forced myself on her that night, amidst her pleas. I was such an heartless asshole who didn’t deserve to be loved by anyone.
When we got to the mansion, I ignored my butler and the servants, and made my way to our bedroom to see if Sofie was in.
But to my utter surprise, she wasn’t inside the bedroom nor was she in the bathroom or the closet.
While I was at work earlier that day, I had checked her location twice; immediately I arrived at the company, and some moments before Damien arrived, and on the two occasions, it had showed me that she was at the mansion and hadn’t gone out at all that day.All content © N/.ôvel/Dr/ama.Org.
Something wasn’t right.
I decided to place a call to Damien’s line, and just like I had expected, he didn’t pick up.
“Antonio, what time did Sofie leave the house?” I asked as I walked down the stairs.
“Approximately two hours ago, sir.”
“Did she say where she was going?”
“Not really sir.”
“What do you mean by not really? Be fucking straightforward, did she or did she not tell you her whereabouts?” My agitation was beginning to intensify as time went by.
“My apologies, sir. She did not.”
I cursed to myself before I motioned to Nathan, “I know where she might be. Let’s go.”
She had to be at Damien’s place, nowhere else because I didn’t think she knew anyone around apart from him.
The only friend she had was not even in New York, I knew this because I still kept tabs on everything and everyone related to Sofie.
On the way to Damien’s condo, I couldn’t stop thrumming my fingers on my lap, due to how tensed I was.
I could only imagine how incredibly irate Sofie would be when I apologized to her. I’d rather have her loathe me as long as she remained present in my life rather than have her walk out of my life.
I knew it was ironical to say, given how disgusted and enraged I was with Sofie, barely three hours ago. But I really couldn’t imagine my life without her.
“Wait in the car, I’ll be right back.” I instructed Nathan, before hopping out of the car.
I took an elevator to the top floor where Damien resided, while inwardly hoping he was at home.
Pressing on the door bell, I yelled, “Sofie, it’s Roman. I’m sorry for treating you like that. I should have never done that to you, please forgive me, my love.”
When that didn’t work, I continuously banged on the door until Damien opened up, with bed hair and a vexed expression on his face.
I had probably roused him from a nap.
“Why the fuck are you here, barking like a mad man?” He spat, shooting me a glare.
I looked behind him to see if there was any sign that Sofie was there but I couldn’t find any.
“I just asked you a fucking question, or have you gone dumb?” He hurled, slamming the door shut.
“Where is Sofie?” I asked.
He gave me an incredulous look. “How am I supposed to know that?”
I frowned. “So she’s not in there?”
“Why would she be here in the first place? Are you even listening to yourself?”
“Oh, fuck. I think Sofie may be missing.” I blurted out without thinking.
Damien’s expression mirrored my frown. “Missing? Are you sure about that? Have you checked everywhere? She’s probably with a friend.”
“Sofie doesn’t have any friend around here that I know of, and it’s almost eight in the evening, so she can’t be at school. Oh my goodness, what am I gonna do?” I rambled out, cupping the back of my head with my hands.
“You need to calm down and think positively, man. Just go home and wait for her.” Damien reassured.
“Her phone is switched off, and this has never happened before. Something is not right, Damien. I can feel it.” I countered.
Damien sighed. “Well, we have to wait for forty eight hours even if we want to file a missing person report. I’m sure we won’t have to, because she’ll come home safe and sound.”
“I hope so. I really do.”
“Have faith, man.” He clapped my shoulder before going back into his condo.
I tried to will the ominous feeling within me away as I trudged into the elevator but deep down, I knew a foreboding was about to happen.
