The Billionaire's Mistake (Anya and Daniel)

MISTAKE 36

Chapter 36: A blow after another.

Anya turned towards Miley in anger.

“Miss Shaw, did you see me push her in? For all I know, she may have slipped or wanted a swim,” Anya said. She hated being framed. It seems that Selene liked to frame her every time they met.

“Yes, I saw you push her in,” Miley said, and Anya paused. She could not believe Miley would tell such a lie.

“Don’t you all have security cameras here? Check it then,” Anya said. She did not believe these rich people did not have cameras in their homes.

“Apologize!” Daniel said, and Anya looked at him as though he grew two heads.

“I will not apologize for what I did not do. The person herself has not said I pushed her. Don’t convict me without even checking…” Anya started to say.

“Do not test me, Anya. Apologize. Don’t think I don’t know where your mother is,” be threatened, and Anya froze.

“Daniel!” Wendy scolded him in horror. The moment he said it, he regretted it. But he was still too angry. Selene could not swim. What if she died?

He saw Anya look horrified, take a deep breath, and bow her head to Selene.

“Miss Selene, I apologize,” Anya said, then stood up straight.

“Can I leave now?” She asked, not waiting for a reply. She turned around and walked out. She

did not bother looking back, and she knew no one followed her.

When she walked out of their home, she did not stop to get a taxi; she just kept walking-

She had not walked far when she received a call.

Anya answered.

“Miss Jones, you need to come down to the hospital quickly. Your mother just had a cardiac arrest,” the person said, and Anya’s heart dropped to her stomach.

She ordered a taxi and rushed over to the hospital.

When she got there, her mother was barely breathing.

“Anya, my baby,” Stella said, and tears dropped from Anya’s eyes like rain.

“Mom,” Anya cried.

“You are going to find me a good in–law, right? I don’t expect much. He just has to treat you. right,” her mother said, and Anya nodded.

“Don’t cry, baby; I am going to a good place, “Stella said and drew her last breath.

As Anya stood by her mother’s deathbed with tears in her eyes, by her side was not there.

the person she wanted most

She felt her soul break when she saw her mother take her last breath. Her legs weakened, and she fell to the ground. Her cries filled the hospital room as the doctors declared her mother dead.

Chopper A blow after another.

Anya found herself wandering through the hospital like a hollowed tree, a soulless, empty

shell.

Her hands independent from her body repeatedly dialed Daniel’s number on her phone, but there was no response.

The more the phone rang without response, the more desperate she became. Her fingers punched the screen of the phone, threatening to break its glass as she continued calling the familiar number over again.

She did not know who to call, so she just called him. Her body had a mind of its own and wanted to talk to him.

Her hands shook as her sanity slipped further away. Just when she thought she would scream, someone picked up her call from the other end.

“Daniel,” she said in a broken voice.

“Mrs. Shaw, Mr. Shaw is going to a meeting right now and cannot pick your call,” she heard Daniel’s secretary answer coldly. It was as though hope had crawled up her dreams, only to throw a bucket of cold water over her to wake her up. She knew that the person she wanted to speak to, Daniel, was not far from his phone. He just could not be bothered to speak to her.

“John, put him on the phone; I have an emergency,” she begged John, her husband’s secretary.

“I’m sorry, Madam, we need to leave now. I will inform Mr. Shaw that you called,” John replied coldly.

“Is he there, but refuses to answer?” She asked, but was met with silence. It was all the confirmation she needed. It was an unconventional marriage, she agreed. She was the one who

pushed her way in. But of all the times he had ignored her, she was not going to let it go like

always.

“Tell him, if he does not talk to me right now, he should only return with divorce papers!” Anya found herself shouting.

On the other end, her voice rang through the insides of a car as the phone was on loudspeaker. John looked behind him at his boss in the back seat.

He hoped for instructions on what to do next, but Daniel remained completely unmoved by her threat. He was still angry with Anya. He had to send Selene to the hospital, and the doctor said that she may have mental issues with water.

He could not believe Selene could get hurt in his house. He knew he had indulged Anya. She probably thought he was stalling the divorce.

John swallowed the words at the tip of his tongue and looked back at the phone in his hand.

“I am sorry, Madam, you are not to call the boss while he is on a trip. He will get back to you when he returns,” John said and ended the call.

The inside of the car returned to silence after that. It was not a secret to him that the boss did. not have much of a relationship with his wife. It could even be said that the boss pretended. she did not exist.

All other times the madam had called, she always relented after being told he was busy. He never thought he would hear the words divorce come out of the soft–spoken Madam’s mouth.

The silence in the car seemed to go on too long; It was like hailstones were about to drop, and drop they did.

“Call the lawyers to draft a divorce,” Daniel’s voice dropped like lightning on a sunny day.

He had made up his mind. If he kept stalling, Selene could get hurt. He had promised her since. childhood to protect her, and he intended to do just that. Published by Nôv'elD/rama.Org.

On the other end, Anya stared at the phone blankly. She did not realize how long she was standing there. The world spun and her vision went dark.

She woke up in the hospital a few hours later, having fainted outside, and was brought inside for care. The night had already covered the sky, but no one had come for her. She finished her. discharge procedures and went home.

She looked at the empty house tiredly.

She and her husband were quite the match. She had found herself married to a man she had a crush on, not knowing he was in love with others.

How could she even expect him to come to her side? She felt stupid for calling him. Even though she and Daniel had a contractual marriage, she had stayed out of his way. At first she had tall dreams of living together and finding love, but she soon came out of her delusions.

Anya knew he did not love her, and most times he did not acknowledge her presence. But she had somehow fallen in love with him. She knew she was no more than a fool, but she could not help herself.

Of all the times he had acted as though she did not exist, only speaking to her when necessary, this was the time that hurt the most. Anya felt alone in this empty house. She had lost her only family,

yet there was no one to comfort her. She could not help but fall to the floor and laugh at her idiocy. As she laughed, cries sneaked between her broken laughter. Yet she felt empty;
