Chapter 16: Another man
“What would you like?” Anya asked.
“A big cup of Iced coffee,,” Doctor Steele answered.
“How could you forget that you have a sweet tooth?” she said as they ordered. Ccontent © exclusive by Nô/vel(D)ra/ma.Org.
“The way you say it, why do I get the feeling that you are judging me?” he asked.
“How is that possible, I just never see men that admit to liking sweet things,” she said.
“I like everything sweet, my coffee, snacks, even people,” he said, his eyes lingering on her face. For a second, she met his eyes and felt a little uncomfortable, so she looked away. Anya knew he was flirting with her and turned red.
“Doctor Steele, saying such things to a married woman is odd,” Anya said.
“What? A married woman can’t be sweet?” He asked, “Besides, you are not wearing your wedding ring today. Did you forget it or take it off?” he asked and Anya paused.
Her silence was like a large bell ringing in the silence. She took it off? Doctor Steele asked, sitting up straight.
Anya was no psychic, but she could feel his energy rise when she hesitated.
“I am still married. Just going through a
divorce, she quickly answered.
“Then since I can now pursue you, I am going to still call you sweet,” he said, his eyes deepened as he stared at her, and Anya seemed to notice.
“Pursue me? It is not as though I am running,” she scoffed as their orders arrived. She had to admit she was nervous. He was very straight forward, it made her uncomfortable.
They had ordered some cake to go with their coffee. Anya took a bite and nodded at the sweet
taste.
“Besides, It is not as though people can be measured in sweetness.” Anya immediately changed the topic.
“Why not?” he asked, “People are called sweet all the time,” he protested.
“Sweet is such a general term. It can’t be used to describe people. For example, if you tell someone to find you a sweet person, they could bring you a grandma selling rice on the street, and who is to say they are not sweet? It’s not as though sweet is a description, If you are asked to point at sweets even in a dessert shop, it will be hard,” she said, taking another bite of her cake.
“How hard could it be?” he asked, then pointed at his coffee, “Sweet,” then pointed at his
cake, “Sweet,” then pointed at Anya, “Very sweet,” he said and she found herself speechless.

“See? That wasn’t hard,” he took a sip of his coffee.
“I’m sure it doesn’t work like that…” Anya laughed awkwardly, “A person can’t be sweet. It is not as though you can taste them,” she said. She was not even sure why she was having this conversation. She still found a way to flirt even while talking about sweets.
“If given the chance, I would taste them all,” he said, the mirth in his eyes, telling her he was joking, but she could hear something else when he said that.
His words caused Anya to pause mid swallow. She was confused. She always thought Doctor Steele was reserved, but it seemed he only seemed that way because she was married.
Did hearing that she was getting a divorce open something in him? Anya was not sure how to
react.
“Dr. Steele, I did not know you had a dirty mind,” she responded. He was slightly disappointed with the reaction, but he still laughed lightly.
“How is that a dirty mind?” he asked, “Besides, your mother was right. We’ve known each other for so long, yet we still don’t call ourselves by our first names.” His words made her recall why they never called each other by their first names.
She had always insisted that he addressed her as Miss Jones. She knew that people knew he liked her. He was not particularly hiding it. But she was a married woman. She did not want rumors. Anya did not think he would ask to be on a first name basis.
“Oh, it is odd,” she answered. When she thought about it again, did he call her by her name back in her mother’s hospital room?
“Then, Harry,” she proceeded to call his name and he became dazed, staring at Anya till she
was uncomfortable.
“Harry?” she called and he looked away the next second.
“Yes, Anya,” he answered.
While Anya was worried that her conversation with Harry was becoming weird, another person besides himself was worried.
J
It was the driver who had driven Anya to her appointment.
He, like every other staff in the Shaw mansion, was shocked when’the master had brought madam back to him. It seemed that they were going to be working on their relationship. It was odd for their young master to come around women.
After he married, he left his wife and never came back. The driver recalled that he had heard rumors about the boss‘ new wife. The family did not like her, so she stayed away.
So, when he suddenly brought Miss Jones back they were all paying attention. Has the boss. decided to live like a married man? Many of them were curious. They soon noticed that both

husband and wife slept in the same room.
But the boss said he should drive her around and keep tabs on her.
When he had driven over to wait for Miss Jones to finish her appointment in the coffee shop, he noticed that she was meeting with a man.
It was not that he thought bad of Miss Jones for meeting with a man not too long after she had returned home to live with the boss, it was that he was worried someone was trying to pry his boss‘ corner and steal Miss Jones away. The boss had only started working on his marriage how could they sit still while another man takes her?
He had served in the Shaw family’s private military for years, only those who were the most skilled were allowed to be deployed. It was very easy for him to read lips and understand what was going on in the coffee shop from inside the car.
As the conversation progressed, he was sure this man was definitely trying to steal the boss’s wife away. Anyone listening would be able to tell he was flirting with her.
He pulled out his phone and paused. Conflicted, he weighed his options, but still decided to call the boss. He called the house phone and the head butler picked it up.
“It’s me, Grey, Please pass the phone to the master,” he asked the butler.
“You know the rules, You cannot talk to the master just because you wish to. Tell me what this is about.” The butler refused.
“It is about Miss Jones,” he said and the butler paused and decided it was best to go to Daniel
for this matter.
Daniel was already quite agitated since Anya left that afternoon. Daniel was in several meetings. Irritated, he was already angered several times during the meetings. He had even. wanted to go for an inspection but was not sure Anya would behave and stay out
He was severely frustrated. Everything was going wrong since that girl kissed him.
“Hurry up,” he said impatiently to those on the zoom call, and the flustered director started struggling to pull out the right documents. Just that moment, the butler knocked and walked
1. in.
“Excuse me, Sir, the driver that had taken Miss Jones out this afternoon called.” The moment Daniel heard these words, he frowned and gestured for the phone to be passed to him.
“Speak,” he said the moment the phone touched his ear.
“Sir, I took Miss Jones to an appointment, but it seems to be a coffee date,” he said and the temperature of the room dropped.
“I am not sure about Miss Jones, but the man seems to be interested in her. I read his lips, he is trying to court Miss Jones. He asked about your marriage and the madam said she is getting divorced.” Grey explained, but was met with silence on the other end that lasted for almost a
