Chapter 148 Argument
Alexander kept his mouth shut around Joe.
When they pulled up to the suburban nursing home, Jonah was taken aback to see Alexander without Allison.
"Mr. Carter, you're here. Where's Ms. Bennett?" Jonah asked.
Alexander stepped aside, revealing Joe. Jonah's face changed the moment he saw him.
"Mr. Watson, it's been years. You look as vigorous as ever!" Jonah said.
Joe shot him a glare. "Years apart, and you're still such a suck-up. Now, go get Hayden. I need to give him a piece of my mind!"
Alexander twitched his mouth, still not daring to speak. Hayden heard the commotion and came out, his face paling at the sight of Joe. "Here to cause trouble, Joe?" Hayden sneered.
"If I'm here to cause trouble, what about you? Hayden, why can't you ever do anything right?" Joe shot back, his voice dripping with disdain. As soon as Hayden and Joe met, they started arguing heatedly.
Alexander, sensing the tension, pulled Jonah aside and whispered, "Does Mr. Watson have a grudge against Hayden?"
"Rivals in love!" Jonah explained briefly.
Alexander got it immediately. He wisely stood in the corner, waiting until Hayden and Joe were exhausted from arguing and sat down in the yard.
"What do you want?" Hayden asked.
Joe looked at Hayden coldly. "I'm here for Allison. Jasper is your grandson, right?"
Hayden's face changed instantly at the mention of Jasper.
"Hayden, you deny being incompetent, but look at the mess your family has become. Kidnapping Allison for money? How broke is the Bennett family that you have to leech off her? Do you have any shame? The Bishop family's assets were meant for Allison. I don't care what your excuses are if you harm her, I won't let you off!" Joe spat out, barely containing his anger.
Hayden stood up and looked at Alexander, who was standing not far away. "Alexander, come here. What happened between Jasper and Allison?"
Alexander recounted the events, detailing the incident at the chemical warehouse. He explained that Jasper, being the lessee, had been arrested by the police for investigation.
Hayden's face flushed with anger. "That bastard! Why couldn't he come to me if he needed something? We're family; there's no need for this kind of drama! Jonah, go to the police station and find out exactly what Jasper's done," Hayden ordered, his voice tight with anxiety.
Jonah nodded and stepped aside to make the call.
Throughout the conversation, Hayden never once asked about Allison's well-being.
"Aren't you concerned about your granddaughter's condition?" Joe couldn't help but ask.
"Of course she's fine," Hayden replied dismissively. "Jasper isn't a bad kid. He just wants the Bishop family's assets; he wouldn't hurt Allison!"
Hayden's confidence was infuriating, and even Alexander found it hard to stomach.
No wonder Allison had such a hard time with the Bennett family no one truly cared about her.
"With that attitude, it's clear to me now, Hayden. You have no say in the Bishop family's affairs anymore, and you never will. The Bishop family sold everything to support you back then, and now you want to take even more? How shameless can you get? Allison is my student, and from now on, I'll be the one looking out for her. You just worry about your own worthless family," Joe declared, his voice firm and unyielding.
Joe grabbed Alexander, and they left without another word. On the drive back, Joe was fuming, his anger palpable in the confined space of the car. "That old bastard! Poor Allison, with no one to care for her!" Joe muttered angrily the entire way.
Once they got to the hospital, Joe took charge of Allison's treatment. She hadn't woken up yet, but her condition was getting a lot better.
After leaving her room, Joe called Alexander into Henry's office. Henry was already there, and the three of them sat in silence for what felt like forever.
"Alexander, do you know how I first met Allison?" Joe finally broke the silence.
Alexander took a moment to gather his thoughts before answering.
"Allison was kicked out of the Bennett family on her thirteenth birthday. But she didn't show up in Avalon City until a year later when she enrolled at Maplewood High School. It was that same year she earned a spot in your medical program. There's a whole year unaccounted for I couldn't find any trace of where she went during that time," Alexander admitted, laying out the facts as he knew them.
Joe looked at Alexander and Henry. Henry was just as clueless about Allison's past.novelbin
"Allison wasn't kicked out," Joe began, his voice dropping to a grave tone. "Preston sold her to human traffickers. She was taken to an island in Aivalia." Joe's revelation shocked both Alexander and Henry.
Alexander stood up, visibly agitated and incredulous. What kind of father would sell his daughter to traffickers? Allison was only thirteen at the time! Alexander wanted to say something, but he couldn't find his voice.

"If you're in a relationship with Allison, you should know about her other identity," Joe continued, his tone serious. "How she got that identity is directly tied to this. Allison was sold to an island where children her age were trained to kill." Alexander remained standing, slightly trembling. Henry, seeing his distress, gently tugged him back into his seat.
"When I first met Allison," Joe's voice softened, thick with emotion, "she was injured, having escaped to the school's lab. I saw her extracting a bullet from herself and stitching her wound. Do you know what I thought at that moment? I thought, what kind of parents could let their daughter end up like this?"
Tears streamed down Joe's face, and Henry, equally moved, couldn't hold back his own.
Alexander clenched his fists, feeling both heartache and anger.
"Later, she and a few other kids managed to destroy that organization. That's how we got the Allison we know today. I arranged for her to go to Maplewood High School. I knew she was smart and didn't need high school, but she was only fourteen. She deserved a normal life!" Joe explained, his voice filled with a deep sense of duty and affection for Allison.
"Mr. Watson, thank you for everything you've done for Allison!" Alexander said sincerely, his respect palpable.
At that moment, Joe finally accepted Alexander completely.
"Alexander, you're a good man," Joe said, his voice steady. "I know you're capable and come from a noble background, but Allison is no less remarkable. The Bennett family was a prison for her. Allison has a kind heart; if Hayden sheds a few tears in front of her, she'll soften. With you by her side, I believe she won't be easily bullied anymore."
Alexander nodded and promised, "Mr. Watson, I promise, I won't let anyone bully Allison again. Since you're here, I have a favor to ask of you."
When Allison woke up, she felt weak all over. Her vision was blurry, but after a while, she adjusted.
"Allison, you're awake?" A male voice said, but it wasn't Alexander's.
Henry was thrilled to see Allison awake. "See, I told you Mr. Watson's treatment would work. Wait here. I'll go get him!"
