Chapter 203 Peaked Performance
It is with great confidence that we set forth down the street into the direction of the Oxford Underground Station. Now, this creature seems to be rather intelligent; if I wish to kill someone, I shall find my way to the darkest corners in the tunnels running underground.
But for Dean, this pauses a great problem; there are far too many places that it can hide. It will have the upper hand as it hides in the darkness. We cannot afford to split up in a group again as we do not know which creature we are dealing with; therefore, we do not know the strength that it holds.
So very reluctantly but with some haste, we approach the Station, now it has started to grow dark outside. To say that I am not a little creeped out would be a lie. I would much rather sit and look at the sight of my child growing inside that vacuum that I still believe will easily break if one should accidentally drop it on its side.
What else I believe is that my head is not into this hunt at all. Though I have come to know that my senses seem to have peaked to a far greater strength than before. Or perhaps that is just all in my head that is clogged with other memories at this time.
Pushing all of this aside, we are making our way through the crowd of commuters that are rushing to catch the train that will take them home at this hour. Now we are sporting some rather intimidating weapons under our jackets; if one of us has to trip, then you will have the entire Police force on you in a matter of minutes.
So I only but adjust my blade and an extra dagger, let us not forget the Colt that I so eagerly took from Samuel after I killed him. To say that I am prepared is a fact, and what else is a fact is that we all are, as human and Vampire as we are, we are all growing rather scared, for we do not know how this battle is going to play out.
And before we set our foot further inside, Dean calls for us to halt, and I know it is about to come, “Now, you know the drill, we have each other’s backs at all times. There is no room for heroes in this. We take him down together. But if I tell you to back off, then you back the fuck off. Understand?”
“My dear man, do you have a death wish? From what Sam describes, none of these creatures can be taken out single-handedly.”
“Yes, that I know, but I am far more skilled with a blade, but we might be required to use fire, so be ready with the firebombs at any time.”
“It sounds like we are about to be a bunch of naughty schoolboys.”Exclusive © content by N(ô)ve/l/Drama.Org.
Dean only but bursts out in laughter, “If that is a fantasy of Cassidy, then I do not want to know. Now let’s go before one of these helpless souls gets eaten alive.”
With that, we carry on descending down the stairs making our way to the left side of the Station to a section that is currently under construction. Now Sam reckons that this is the perfect spot for feeding.
“Yes,” I only but nod my head. “This is exactly where it shall hunt as well.”
Well, the man nearly rips his dagger from behind and slashes at my throat. Although we are fairly civil and we are great friends and hunters, he still does not look past the fact that I am a Vampire and that I do require to kill to survive.
But the only creatures that we should be concerned about are the very humans that we have vowed to protect, and right now…
There is a godawful scream coming from the direction that we are heading.
Dean immediately stops dead in his tracks.
“Fuck! Are you ready for this?”
There is a very nervous Jacob that only shakes his head; well, at least the man is honest. As for Breyden and Damien, they are eager to get their hands dirty again. I think we have grown far fonder in killing monsters than humans.
And it is a human that is now raising the pitch of her voice to the corners of every dark crevice. Between the agony of her cries and the growl of what I am only assuming is this beast, it is the most horrifying thing I have heard in a while.
So with absolute haste, each and every one of us slide our hands to our backs and take our blades and daggers in both hands. Standing firmly and grasping on with our lives, we slowly, step by step, in complete silence, crawl towards where the scuffle is coming from.
With each step we take, the sounds of the woman’s cries twist and turn into different pitches.
Dean only looks at me in horror while Sam softly whispers, “She is being eaten alive.”
And that thought nearly makes this Vampire empty a stomach that is already empty. But then next, the smell of the blood attacks my senses with a sharp sting.
“She has lost a lot of blood,” I pause for a brief moment and then confirm, “There will be no way that we can save her now.”
“Fucking bastard,” Dean curses almost too loudly as we are now approaching the corner of the entrance where we need to find ourselves entering.
So with only but a brief hand signal and a few unsaid words, Dean shows for us to move in one after the other, having the back of your partner in front of you. Sam is the last one to enter, but he stays close to the entrance just in case that the creature tries to escape.
With each approaching step, I can hear rather clearly as there is a mushing sound which I believe is as the creature is digging his teeth into the poor woman and ripping her flesh from her body. The blood is dripping with loud thuds to the ground as he devours the meat that he is picking from her bones.
But what is far greater of a stomach turn is the gargling voices that woman is making. From the amount of blood loss that I can smell, it is a wonder that she is still alive. I can feel the fear that is hanging thick in the air, and it is not the fear that is floating between our group.
My senses are definitely heightened, for I know that we are not near close to the scene. When did this happen? When can I sense in such detail form so far?
Putting this aside, we start slowing our pace as Dean calls for us to halt, “We are close. Now please remember what Sam said about each creature. They are all going to be strong, and the scariest one of them all is going to be stronger than any one of us. So we need to take him together.”
With only but a nod, I fall back to walk next to our Vampire Hunter. As softly as my voice can carry itself, I whisper to him, “My friend, I can smell how shit scared you are. We will not hold it against you if you sit this one out.”
“No, Lucas, I have taken the same oath; I will not let whatever this is sit here and eat someone alive.”
I only but pat him on the back and fall in line again. Then…
In…
Three…
Two…
One…
We come up to where the female is lying on the floor, completely motionless now. The creature seems to have taken what he needed and god, let me tell you, he has taken almost everything that can have a pleasant taste to the tongue.
I can honestly say that as a Vampire right now, I wish that I did not see all this blood.
But what else I see is the glimmering of eyes that are hiding in the far corner. There is that rotten smell that I picked up earlier that hangs in the air. I can hear as he makes angry hissing sounds as to try and ward us off. From his silhouette that I can clearly make out in the darkness, I seem like a rather big creature.
So I turn to Dean as he nervously awaits the creature to jump out the corner; I whisper to him, “The goddamn thing is big.”
Dean’s eyes grow wide as he steps a few steps back, then he continues to ask, “How the fuck do you know that?”
“My friend, I can see him.”
“What?” He starts with a rather inappropriate joke for this very time, “Do you have night vision now?”
“My friend, just take my word for it. I think I know what is lurking in there.”
And before I can say another word, from the darkness, there is the form of a man that comes rushing towards us. He has the most deformed face that is an awful grey with veins that are protruding.
Dean only looks at the rest of us, “Oh, fuck.”
