Chapter 14: The Memory
Chapter 14: The Memory
The shrill whistle burst out in the air, and the ambulance ran through the road like a white arrow, which had run through several red lights one after another.
Nathan followed it closely, holding the steering wheel with great strength. His eyes were red . He looked straightly at the ambulance and follow it all the way. Each time he thought of Roy's killing Joyce like that, he wanted to tore him into pieces in an instant.
"Jamie, help me find out if Roy is really mad or pretending to be mad." He dialed his assistant phone. Every words he said were full of anger.
He had already decided that no matter Roy was really schizophrenic or not, he would let him pay a for it.
"Nathan, I love you!" a tiny voice came suddenly to his ear. He trembled a little bit, and there seemed to be a scar in his heart which brought him to his memory in the old times.
Her pale face, scratched hands, shaky body, and her eyes that had lost their light but were full of affection suddenly fleshed back in front of him.
The successive scenes turned into sharp swords which had stabbed him in the heart and made him breathless.
"Joyce, we are not over, you dare to die !"
He pressed the horn frantically, and in the harsh whistle he sped up.
In the spacious library, bright sunshine penetrated through the wide glass windows and scattered on the girl's white shirt.
She was wearing a tall ponytail and her hair was like the ink at the end . She sat on the desk, with her head supported by her white slender arm, and stared at the boy opposite for quite a moment.
"Why don't you read books and instead you stared at me?"
The boy also wore a white shirt. His starry eyes which were affectionate swept across her bright face.
"Because ,you look better than a book."
The girl gave a crisp answer, and she smiled with her eyes squeezed like the moon.
The boy's face blushed unconsciously.
"Wow, look at him, the poker face is so strange now! His face is blushing. Can you see that? " The girl's laughter grew louder and attracted some glances from the students sitting in the front.
The man made a silent gesture to her. She stretched out her small tongue and said, "Sorry!"
Then she turned to him again and said, "Let's stop reading. The cherry blossoms are blooming outside." She whispered, looking at him hopefully, and looked forward to his reply. Content bel0ngs to Nôvel(D)r/a/ma.Org.
"The exam is coming." He frowned slightly.
"You're so smart, it's ok. If you don't go with me, I'll keep on laughing. “Her tone of voice was
threatening, and her intonation improved unconsciously, which in return attracted some students in the front look at them.
His eyebrows frowned slightly, and his cold eyes glided through an imperceptible shadow.
"If you keep silent, then it’s a yes." She held his big hands with her small hands.
His palm seemed feel a little coldness from her little hand. And his heart quivered sharply. His lungs seemed to be filled with some unnamed corrosive fluid which was a little painful time after time.
The hand that held the steering wheel was involuntarily tightened when all the old scenes fleshed back. ... "Nathan, come on, come on, this is the special lunch I made for you." she handed a pink-blue Bento box to him .She looked at him as if she had fallen into the whole galaxy.
"This is my first time to cook, try it."
After opening the lid of the bento box, a dark meal came into view. Baked rice, black fried eggs and ham, and...
He looked embarrassed, and his hand awkwardly remained in mid-air.
"Are you surprised?"
Looking at the expectations of her eyes and the bandages wrapped around her fingers, he swallowed everything even without a wrinkle on his eyebrows for he didn't want her to be upset.
The taste of the meal is really –He cannot find a word to describe.
"Nathan, do you think whether there is afterlife?" Her face was pale in the bright sunshine.
"If there is an afterlife, shall we be a pair of seagulls?" She tugged at his sleeve and looked at him. There was a glance of gloom gliding below her eyes, which could hardly be seen.
"Why seagulls?" He asked, with his usual haughty look.
"Because seagulls are the most infatuated birds in the world. They have only one partner in their lifetime.
If one of them dies first, the other will hover over the sea and call for his partner's return until he falls into the sea and dies."
