Chapter 56 Choosing Courses
Chapter 56 Choosing Courses
Spencer hadn’t been in M City for three weeks. Fiona’s everyday life was starting to get back on track.
The only thing she constantly worried about was her internship under Celine.
After an entire day of work, she left the office building exhausted. Sophia hadn’t come today, so Fiona
had to deal with all the chores. Now, she also had to go back by herself. As she dragged her exhausted
body out, she ran into a familiar face.
A sharply-dressed Terence had just parked his luxury car in front of the building. He then leaned
against it and put his hand in his pocket, as if waiting for someone. He raised his head, immediately
noticing the girl walking out of the company building. Looking surprised, he said, "Fiona? What brings
you here?"
"Hello Terence, it’s nice to see you again. I’m an intern here. Are you waiting for someone?" Fiona
asked.
"Yeah." Terence stood up straight and nodded, composing himself from a momentary show of
embarrassment. He wondered why Celine and Fiona worked in the same company, and if the latter
knew the relationship between Spencer and Celine.
"Well, have a good day. I’m going back home." Fiona bowed slightly and turned to walk away.
"Wait!" Terence raised his hand and hurried to her. "Spencer’s been quite busy recently. Are you doing
okay? You know you can call me if you need anything."
"Thank you, I’m doing fine." Fiona smiled gratefully. Suddenly, something he had said came to mind.
"You once told me something has been troubling Spencer. Were you referring to his relationship with
Celine?"
Terrence’s jaw dropped. "You know about everything?"
"I do."
"Aren’t you shocked?" He had always been a steady and composed person, but right now, it seemed
that Fiona had him completely beat.
"I was when I found out about it. But it’s been a long time since. I’ve gotten over it now."
"When did you find out?"
"Terence!" Celine’s voice rang in their ears. As Fiona turned around to the entrance, she saw her
trotting towards them.
Fiona was shocked, and then flashed a mocking smile. 'So, Terence is waiting for Celine. Turns out
they are friends. How stupid I was to talk about Celine with him.'
"I’m leaving now." Fiona clutched her bag and started to walk away.
"Wait, Fiona," said Terence in a hurried voice. "About what I just asked you..."
"I found out on the wedding night." She looked at him one last time with a cold expression before
rushing off.
'What? She found out on her wedding night?' Terence stared while she ran off, leaving him speechless.
"Hey, Terence! Why did you invite me to dinner today?" Celine followed his gaze and saw Fiona. "What
did you two talk about?"
"What did you do on their wedding night?" He was now looking at her coldly.
"Fiona snitched on me?" Celine said indignantly, all trace of cheerfulness gone. She stared back at him
with sudden annoyance. "I just got here. Why are you suddenly questioning me about Spencer’s
wedding night? What do you think I did that you’re now looking at me that way?"
"Did you know he was going to get married? Why did you come back all of a sudden?" he asked.
Celine scoffed, "I just came back to fulfill a wish from six years ago."
"Wayne kicked you out six years ago. Do you really think he won't drive you out again?" Terence glared Published by Nôv'elD/rama.Org.
at her coldly. "I thought you would finally understand. You and Spencer aren’t a good match!"
"Why the hell not?" She clenched her fists. "You already said that to me six years ago, but we’re still as
good as we were before! I love him, and on my life I swear that I will do anything for him!"
"You know what kind of a man he is!" he said, irritated. "He’s always out and about. Sometimes he
doesn’t come back for two or three weeks just like he’s doing now. Can you really bear being in a
relationship with him? In the past, every time he came back from his task, you'd lose temper. Do you
still think you are suitable for him?"
"Why do you think I am not?" Celine’s face flushed with anger. "So if I’m not the right person, does that
mean you think Fiona is?"
"A hundred percent yes."
"You..." Terence cut her off before she could speak further.
"Spencer needs someone who quietly supports him and gives him a productive environment where he
can do what he does best at all times. Fiona is perfect for that." He stared at her with intensity. "It’s the
audience that sees most of the game. I won’t let you succeed."
"Huh?" She laughed scornfully. "I’m just pursuing what makes me happy! You know what, I can’t afford
to have dinner with you tonight!" With each step, her high heels clicked loudly against the sidewalk.
She headed for the street and hailed a taxi.
Terence took a deep breath and rubbed his brows. A fortune teller had told him years ago that he cared
about other people’s lives too much. And it seemed he was right.
Terence got in the car. Having lost his appetite, he decided to head to Le Bar.
Leaves were falling in D University by November, clumping into bunches on the ground. They crunched
underneath the feet of three girls who were running.
"Hurry up!" Sophia grabbed Fiona's hand. "Choosing electives begins at ten o’clock today. If we’re late,
we won’t be able to pick the easier lessons! Why don’t you seem worried about that at all?"
Fiona laughed. "What do you mean easier lessons?"
"Something like art appreciation, maybe! Can you imagine how easy it would be? We would just be
watching opera or listening to music in class." Ella ran from behind them. "I remember the last time I
fought for something on Taobao. I didn't expect I’d be fighting for electives this time around!"
"What are the more difficult subjects?" Fiona smiled, but picked up her pace when she saw Sophia look
back at her anxiously.
"Physics, mathematics, and the most boring of them all, history." Sophia groaned. "I’m seriously getting
a headache thinking about them. You know what, we should run faster!"
When the three of them arrived, the room was crowded with people already sitting and waiting in front
of the computers.
Sophia spotted an unoccupied one among the rows of computers. She immediately sat down and
booted it up. "I’ll get both of your courses after."
"Do it quickly!" Ella stood behind her, fidgeting.
Fiona darted her eyes around the densely packed room. She frowned as she noticed that there were at
least two people in front of each computer. She gently put a hand on Sophia’s shoulder. "Do you think
this computer isn’t working? Otherwise, why isn’t anybody else using it? At this rate, I don’t think we’d
get a chance to snag the easy courses."
"Are you crazy? Don’t say things like that!" Sophia stared back at her scornfully. Before she could give
her a piece of her mind, a voice boomed across the room. "The course selection system is now open!"
Everyone buzzed with excitement. The whole room was suddenly filled with the sound of keyboards
clacking and mice clicking.
"It’s stuck! I can't get on the web!"
"Ha! I’m in! Let me check if the opera appreciation course is still available."
"Hurry up, computer! My course depends on you!"
Sophia squealed as the browser finally loaded. She typed in the site, but the page failed to refresh after
a few seconds. She cursed loudly. "Damn it! Why can’t I connect?"
"Oh my God, Sophia, hurry up and try it again!" Ella craned her neck hastily to see the screen. "My
appreciation course!"
"That’s everything that’s left?"
"Forget it!"
"Oh, no! The literary course is gone."
The more Sophia heard, the sadder she grew. And then finally, the page loaded. She jumped on her
seat giddily. "Here it finally is! Let me see. Oh my God, it’s gone!"
"What do you mean?" Ella asked.
She collapsed in the seat and stared at the ceiling with dead eyes. "The appreciation courses were
filled within one minute..."
"What’s left?" Fiona asked, scanning the screen.
"Hmm... advanced mathematics..." Ella put her hands on her hips and groaned. "We’re doomed. What
should we do now?"
"Pick it." Fiona smiled and narrowed her eyes, staring at the page as if she was accepting a challenge.
"Research suggests math problems help develop the brain and prevent atrophy. It mustn’t be that bad!"
"I say this with utmost respect, but do you think everyone’s like you, Fiona? I would fail advanced
mathematics, no question!" Ella stared at her with a grieving expression, which was suddenly replaced
with a look of realization.
"Wait, if we choose that, will you be able to help me on the final exam? It’s going to be much easier for
us!" Sophia’s eyes lit up and darted towards her friend. "Will you be okay with that?"
Fiona shrugged. "I don’t know if I can, but I’ll try."
"So, what are we going to do now?" Ella asked.
"I’m fine with choosing advanced mathematics. It has higher credits, which could be nice. Anyway, we
have no other choice," Fiona replied.
"Then I’ll also go with that," Ella said, "I’ll be fine if you’re there."
"I’ll go with that too, then!" Sophia turned around and typed her name. "No turning back now."
"I'm with you!" Ella said.
"List me down too, please." Fiona smiled. "If I knew that we had no choice but to choose advanced
mathematics in the end, I wouldn’t have rushed here with you two. I really don’t like running."
"I’d still rather run twenty laps than choose mathematics. Anyway, it’s done. We should go."
"The classes will start tomorrow, I’m nervous..."
Laughing, the three of them finally left the room. Two boys who sat at the table beside them looked on.
One of them whispered, "All the good classes are filled. Why don’t we go with advanced mathematics?
Those three beautiful girls did."
"Ha! I was just thinking the same thing. Go, list us down for it." "Okay."
