Sweet Subterfuge

Chapter 61

Chapter 61

Suddenly, Larissa remembered that Amber was still available! Material © NôvelDrama.Org.

Although she did not know what had happened between Travis and Amber, their relationship was still much more intimate than hers and Travis‘. Amber should obviously be in charge of paying for his medical fees.

*Please wait a moment, okay? I’ll check if Travis has any other relatives or friends that you can contact. If I find their numbers, I’ll let you know. Is that okay?” Larissa asked for the nurse’s opinion.

The nurse replied rather reluctantly, “Well, okay. But you must hurry!”

Larissa did not actually have Amber’s number, but she did have a bunch of Travis‘ colleagues‘ contact numbers. Texting them in their shared group chat, she asked, ” Do you guys have Amber’s number? Can you send it to me?”

Several of them replied, “Isn’t Amber in jail? Why do you want her number?”

Larissa was surprised. She picked a more familiar colleague and asked in private, When did Amber end up in jail? What did she do?”

That person was typing for quite a while before a text wall popped up in the chat. “It happened just recently! You didn’t know? Amber supposedly developed depression or bipolar disorder after losing her baby and fought with the department head every day. Then somehow it got worse, and she actually knocked him down with her car! Someone called the police, and Amber was arrested soon after. The head was hurt pretty bad. Two days ago, we went to see him once, and we heard that he’s now paralyzed from the waist down. He’ll never be able to walk again!”

Larissa did not expect this to be the truth of what happened.

*To be honest, some of us were pretty sorry for you! All of us mostly knew about the head’s affair with Amber, but we were afraid of losing our jobs, so no one told you. Later…we didn’t have the nerve to tell you anymore. Now that you’ve actively reached out to me, I’ll take the opportunity to apologize. I hope you’ll forgive me.”

Reading through that paragraph, Larissa figured that they were sincere at least, if not outright genuine.

“It’s fine,” she replied, “It’s over now, anyway.”

Besides, those two who made life hard for her did not get a good ending either. It was useless to hold these people responsible for anything now. What she needed to

figure out was if she had to go to the hospital to pay for Travis‘ medical fees.

His parents ran off somewhere, she could not reach his brother, and Amber was now in jail. She could not possibly get his friends and colleagues to pay for him. The nurse had given her an ultimatum–pay tonight or Travis would get discharged.

With his current condition, getting discharged would be a death sentence for him.. Although she hated him, she could not bear to watch him die. Besides, Dylan told her that if Travis died, there would be a bigger conflict with regard to the asset division, and the lawsuit would be dragged out longer.

After struggling for a while, Larissa decided to go to the hospital and make sure he did not die. She called the nurse back and told her she would be heading over shortly.

The nurse was delighted. “That’s great! I’ll wait for you at the nurse’s station! Come find me once you get there!”

With her sore and achy feet, Larissa dragged herself out of the bathroom and was startled by the man who was standing in the corridor
