Chapter 22
Furious and brokenhearted. That’s exactly how Jace feels after seeing Emerald and Liam making out in the office. He was stunned and couldn’t move. His body trembled in anger, and at the same time, feeling so vulnerable seeing how beautiful and alluring his wife looked now. But the thought of a man touching her made his jaw clench and face hardened. He was about to attack Liam, but Kyle, who managed to escape his shock, stopped him.
“Calm down, Jace,” he whispered.
“I’m sorry, he rushed here.” Daryl and Creep said in unison.
“I guess I will have to leave now,” Liam told Emerald as he helped her fix herself. “I’ll go back to your house and wait for you there,” he added, and young Morgan nodded at him in agreement, smiling.
“See you after work,” she replied before sitting on her chair.
“I’m sorry, M,” Creep said as he walked closer.
“M?” Jace and Kyle asked.
“Yes, she’s M,” Daryl replied,
“Have a seat,” Emerald said, successfully hiding her nervousness and uneasiness.
“Here, Mr. Higginson,” Creep told Jace, pointing at the chair in front of Emerald. Jace took one while Kyle took the other. Daryl and Creep remain standing.
“Seeing you here, I take it that you didn’t come to an agreement,” Emerald said, looking at Jace and Creep.
“Yes,” her friend answered.
“Mr. Higginson, there’s nothing I can do to make this collaboration materialize,” she said, her eyes not leaving Jace. “Creep and Daryl informed you about our terms, and if you don’t want to agree, there’s nothing I can do. Creep’s decision is as good as mine.”
“You’re beautiful,” Jace said out of nowhere. He still couldn’t believe that he had finally seen her. After five years of searching, he feels miserable. But now that he found her in the arms of another man, he felt betrayed.
“Mr. Higginson, I don’t think we’re on the same page.”
“What’s wrong, do you feel uneasy? I’m just saying what I’m seeing.” Jace replied.
“No. I know I’m beautiful, and you’re not the only one who has said that to me. It was a common flattery I received from people, so I get annoyed when I talk to someone who states the obvious.” Emerald said arrogantly. “As for the collaboration, why are you here? It’s not going to happen.”
“Why?” Jace asked, now with a serious face.
“Because we have our terms, and you didn’t agree to it.”
“Terms should be agreed on both sides. The same with collaboration, we should benefit from it, EQUALLY.” Jace replied, stressing the last word.
“That’s our terms; whether you accept it is up to you.”
“Let’s say I accept it. How will it benefit me?”
“I guarantee you profit,” Emerald replied,
“Profit, which you will get more while I spend a lot? You get all the benefits, you know that.”
“Then what are your terms?” Emerald asked while Creep and Daryl were listening to them. They couldn’t believe that their boss would be able to face her ex-husband just like that. They knew how much she cried every time she would remember her marriage life. If not for Ace, she would have lived a miserable life in the past five years.
“I’ll agree to all of your terms,” Jace said,
“Jace!” Kyle exclaimed, but young Higginson ignored him.
“But my people will help you.”
“What do you mean?” Emerald asked, confused.
“You will be leading the development with my people. You don’t expect me to just spend and give you my money just like that without assurance that the project will go according to plan. I have to protect my assets, just like Creep said earlier. I separate business from personal matters. You’re my wife, but it doesn’t mean I will only say yes to you.”
“I remember signing a divorce paper five years ago, so it’s ex-wife,” Emerald replied.
“Did you remember attending the court hearing as well?” Jace asked, “Divorce won’t proceed if we are not physically present.”
“What are you talking about? We even got married without leaving our house.” Emerald said angrily. She didn’t like the idea that she was still married to Jace, but at the same time, she felt something different, far from anger.
“That’s two different things. What can I do? My power is insufficient to make the judge process our divorce without you?” Emerald balled her fists in frustration while Creep and Daryl were shocked.
“Creep,” Emerald said, giving him her laptop to check. Jace and Kyle look confused but understand what was going on after Creep said,
“You’re still married,” Jace smirked, looking at Emerald.
“So, if I were you, stop seeing that bastard before I put him in prison.”
Emerald chuckled and said, “What made you think I will stop seeing him even if we’re still married? Just because I’m still married to you, I will also stop seeing any man I like.”
For a moment, Jace was speechless, while Creep and Daryl were nervous. They didn’t know that Emerald had the guts to say those words. Although they knew what was happening between her and Liam, they also knew she didn’t love the man.
“You can try, but I’ll tell you this. I am going to find out who and where that bastard came from, and I will surely do everything in my power to destroy him.” Jace said, as his jaw clenched. He didn’t like the fact that Emerald was using his words against him. “If I ever find out that he is staying at your house, God knows what I will do to him,” he added angrily.
“Asshole!” Emerald exclaimed,
“Call me whatever and however you like. But the fact that you’re still my wife and mine will not change.” Jace replied before he got up, and so did Kyle, who was confused about whether they had the deal. “I take it that we had an agreement. Both in our personal issues and in collaboration. Kyle will arrange an office you can use in my company while working on the project and the team at your disposal.”
“No, I’ll get 40% of the profit and spend more. Bring your employees here after the contract signing.” Emerald said, making Creep and Daryl’s eyes widen. ‘Is that how much Emerald didn’t want to be with Jace?’ they thought.
“Oh no, dear wife. The deal is closed. I respect my partners, so we will stick to your terms.” Jace replied, smiling.
“Respect, a big word coming from your filthy mouth,” Emerald said, glaring.
“I don’t care what you think,” Jace said before he looked at Creep and added. “Please prepare the contract. I want the project to start by Monday, and I expect you to report to my company on Monday morning,” he added, then looked at Emerald, who was still glaring at him.
After that, the two left while Kyle looked at Jace with disbelief. Even after they reached their company, Kyle still couldn’t believe what had happened. “Come on, spill it out,” Jace said as he sat in his chair.
“Did you just accept their terms?”
“Yes. You heard it right,”
“But why? Is it because of Emerald?”
“What do you think? It was the only way I could see and watch her. I am not going to let that guy get near her.”
“But they will be seeing in her house. Didn’t you hear what the man said?”
“Do you think I’m deaf? Of course, I heard him!” Jace exclaimed. “That’s why I warned her, so she won’t let it happen.”
“Do you think your words had any effect on her?”
“No. But I’m sure she will not let anything bad happen to that man.” Jace replied confidently. He knew that Emerald would fight him with everything. But he also knew his wife was naive and kind, so she would not hurt Liam.
“Are you thinking that you will be able to win her back for the duration of the project?” Kyle asked,
“Do you think I can’t?” Jace looked at him, raising a brow. This belongs © NôvelDra/ma.Org.
“To be honest, I’m not sure. She’s not the same Emerald I knew. Jace, you saw her and that man, how they make out. Do you honestly think that she will accept you?” Young Higginson sighed heavily.
“I’m worried, yes. And I’m not sure either. As you said, she looks differently. But I still want to try. I want to show her that I’m regretful of what I did to her and that I want to make up for her. I will do everything and anything in my power just to have her love back.”
“Then, you better prepare yourself for a lot of pain you might suffer. The road to her heart is not as easy as when you have her. Hold on to your love, and I will support and help you win her back,” Kyle said, making Jace smile at him, looking thankful.
Jace realizes his situation but will endure suffering and hardship if it means having his wife’s love and affection again.
Meanwhile, in Emerald’s office…
“I’m sorry, M. I should have stopped him from coming here,” Creep said in a low voice.
“It’s not your fault. I should have faced him from the very beginning. I guess a part of me still can’t move on. Making me feel scared about our meeting. Maybe this is for the best.”
“Should I prepare the contract now, or will we cancel it?” Daryl asked.
“No. Prepare the contract.” Creep and Daryl were shocked, looking at each other. “Are you sure?” her assistant asked. “You will be taking an office in his company during the game’s development.”
“I’m sure. Nothing to worry about. He won’t be able to do anything to hurt me.”
“We know that; what we mean is, will you be comfortable? As we confirmed, you’re still married. And what about Liam?” It was Creep. Emerald looked at him and sighed heavily. She rested her back on her chair and closed her eyes. Thinking about Liam, who will be waiting in her house.
“Before this, I considered taking our relationship to the next level. I want to commit to him, but how will I do that when I am still tied to that bastard?”
“Do you love him? I mean, Liam? If you commit yourself to him, will it be enough? Wouldn’t you only hurt him in the end?” Creep asked. Emerald couldn’t answer. After seeing Jace, she felt uncomfortable. When she heard about them being still married, a part of her felt excited. “I guess I don’t need to hear your answer.” Creep continued, making young Morgan look at him.
“This collaboration stops you from making a bad decision,” Daryl said, and Emerald thought he might be right.
