Chapter 11
After that incident, Jace noticed that Emerald had changed. Her stoic face and lifeless aura replaced the warm greetings she would always give him in the morning for breakfast. Like now, he went to the dining hall for dinner and sat down while his wife placed the food on the table. She wasn’t looking or talking to him, which annoyed him.Content © NôvelDrama.Org.
“Get me my water,” he said, which Emerald did quickly. She placed a glass on the table before she poured some water. Jace drank from it, but “Fuck! It’s so cold!” he exclaimed, glaring at her. Young Morgan ignores him but returns to the kitchen for another pitcher of warm water and glass. Young Higginson continued eating and left the dining room while his wife cleaned.
In his bedroom, Jace wondered why his wife acted like that. ‘Did she already give up?’ he asked himself. ‘She should be suffering so much now. Next time, I will make sure to hurt her even more. She said she loved me, right? Then, I am going to show her how much pain it will cause her when I, her husband whom she claimed she loved, divorce her. To make the scene more dramatic, I will invite my parents and Jack, who still had no idea I had been married for almost a year. Let’s see what you will do or say when you see my brother. The man you cheated on and left because you thought he was poor.’ he added.
With that in mind, Jace couldn’t sleep. In the middle of the night, he thought about his wife again. He hated to admit it, but he wanted her and couldn’t let himself be drawn to her. He wanted her, but he hated her more. Even if it was like that, young Higginson got up from his bed and bathed before going to his wife’s room.
He turned the knob and sighed in relief when he found out that it wasn’t locked like always. ‘Are you thinking that I might come to you like this and fulfill my duty as your husband?’ he thought. He looked at Emerald, who was in a deep sleep, and he couldn’t help but feel the need to touch her. Slowly, he kneeled beside her bed and stared at his wife’s beautiful face. His hand started to move and touched her cheeks, making him close his eyes because he felt how smooth his wife’s skin was.
“Uhmm..” Emerald moaned when Jace let his fingers play on her cheeks.
‘You’re really beautiful, my wife,’ he thought. He wanted to say it loud but feared his wife would wake up. But little did he know that Emerald was so exhausted that whatever he did to her, she wouldn’t be able to stop him.
Jace was startled when Emerald suddenly moved and changed her position. She turned her back to him, making the comforter go out of place, exposing her legs as she was only wearing short and flowy shorts. Young Higginson swallowed hard. He felt his throat dry as he stared at the smooth flesh before him. His hand moved and felt her, making him curse, ‘fuck! You’re so smooth. I never thought you’d be like this. Although I already had my eyes on you, even on your baggy clothes, I think I know now why Jack had gone crazy for you.’
After that thought, Jace decided to leave the room. He stopped himself from taking his wife and thought about the revenge he had planned. ‘I had to be patient, it will end, and I will make her pay. I will avenge my brother soon.’ All the time that they were married, he had wanted to make love to her. But the thought of his brother being cheated on and betrayed by Emerald makes him stop himself and go with another woman instead.
He went back to his room and lay down. ‘Why did I have to feel this for you, Emerald? Why do you have to treat my brother that way?’ Until he fell asleep, those were the words that he repeatedly asked himself.
Jace didn’t have breakfast the following day and went straight to his office. He had a meeting with the bank personnel and didn’t want to be late. He didn’t see Emerald either, and he thought she was always busy in the kitchen.
Meanwhile, Emerald went to the hospital to see her nanny. She tried to look for money for days but couldn’t find it. She plans on leaving Jace, but it won’t happen until she secures Lucy.
After ensuring that Lucy was fine, Emerald went to see her father. “Dad,” She greeted as soon as she entered his office.
“What are you doing here?” Emerson Morgan asked angrily. Emerald felt hurt; whenever she approached her father, he would yell or shout at her, making her decide not to ask for anything from him. But she had to swallow her pride for Lucy.
“Since the company is doing well, I want to ask you for money.”
“Are you crazy? What money are you talking about? What made you think I would give it to you just like that?”
“Please, Dad. My nanny needs it. I promise to pay you when I start earning.”
“When would that be? As far as I know, Jace wanted you to just clean your house. You will never have a chance to earn for yourself, so you better leave my sight now!” Emerson replied angrily. “You won’t get a penny from me. I don’t even care about you. What made you think that I would care about your nanny? Both of you mean nothing to me, so I don’t care whether she dies or rots in hell.”
Emerald’s anger toward Emerson arises. She never thought that her father would be able to say such a thing. ‘Just who am I to him?’ she asks herself as she turns her back and leaves his office.
With her heart broken, she started walking without thinking where she was heading. All she cared about was her nanny, and after talking to her father, she realized she was never part of their family. While tears streamed down her cheeks, she couldn’t help but ask, ‘What did I do to deserve this Lord God? Have I done something that is not to your liking? I never stepped on someone and even loved my family, who had never loved me back. What is it that I am lacking to deserve love?’ She thought before wiping away her tears.
On her way, she thought of Dr. Sanders and decided to go and meet him. She will try to ask for his help and hope he will agree.
“Emerald,” The doctor said after seeing her enter his office.
“Dr. Sanders,” Young Morgan replied as she walked closer to the doctor, who motioned to the chair in front of his table.
“Is there a problem? Why did you cry?” Sanders asked worriedly. With her head down, Emerald replied after she took her seat.
“I need your help.”
“I’m listening,” He replied.
“I planned on divorcing my husband, but I won’t be able to do it if I am not going to secure the nanny’s health. For now, my husband took care of her bills, and I’m afraid that once we are divorced, he’ll stop supporting her.”
“You can find a job after your divorce,” Dr. Sanders replied. Don’t get me wrong; of course, I am going to help you.”
“I plan on leaving and never show up in front of him. Once I settle myself, I will be back for my nanny.”
Dr. Sanders nodded and understood Emerald. He was waiting for her to decide on divorce because he had liked young Morgan the first time he saw her. “Rest assured that I am going to take care of her while you’re away,” he replied.
Feeling thankful, Emerald got up and shook hands with the doctor. Now, she felt relieved that someone would take care of Lucy and prepare for the divorce. She thought everything was going smoothly according to her plan. She was unaware of an unexpected event that would worry her.
