Pregnant?
In Ciudad La Rosa, Sofia:
Inside my Bugatti, I struggled to remember exactly what happened to me the night before. I still feel dizzy, nauseous and very hungry, plus a strange pain and burning in my crotch.
“I can’t believe, that I slept with someone and lost my virginity like that” I speculated, regretting not having watched my drink, since I know that this is normal in this kind of places.
I arrived at the Conjunto Residencial where I live with my twin friends Shayla and Sheyli Nunez, they are identical, liberal, independent, older than me by three years, but excellent friends. When I got into the elevator I got the first glimmer of light about what happened….
“After we had been dancing for about two hours, I left the dance floor very sweaty and sat down at our table, where our drinks were served. I was sitting there drinking for a while when all of a sudden, I started to feel sick”.
Just as I remembered this, the elevator doors opened and my friends were standing in front of the door waiting.
-SOFIAAAA! -They shouted, excited to see me, hugged me and started talking and asking me questions simultaneously.
-Where were you, what happened to you, why did you leave your car in the Disco parking lot? -They both asked me.
-We were so worried about you,” Shayla said, her voice cracking and tears falling.
-We were going to the disco again, to hear from you,” said Sheyli, in a dramatic voice.
-Calm down, my friends, calm down because I’m fine! Alive and well,” I answered with a fake smile, so as not to worry them any more.Nôvel(D)ra/ma.Org exclusive © material.
“Let me eat, bathe, rest and then we’ll talk,” I whispered very low, showing again a fake smile.
-Great! -Sheyli answered me, “So we go back to bed to rest for another while, because I have a strong hangover.
The three of us went into the apartment, each one in her own room. When suddenly, another blurred image of what happened to me last night came to my mind.
“Someone dragged me down the stairs, into the private rooms area of the Disco, hit me hard in the face and I fell.”
I remembered this, but in a very confused and distorted way, I couldn’t see my face well. My mouth hurt, I approached the mirror in my room, I observed the split in my lower lip. Likewise, I got the image of a strong, muscular man helping me, but that was as far as my memory went.
“I don’t even remember his name”, I thought disappointed in myself, I did not make an effort to remember more, since this, accentuated the headache I felt.
In the end, to avoid worrying my friends, I made no reference to what had happened to me. However, I made a decision, I would never visit that place again. It was a very traumatizing experience for me.
A fortnight later, Sofia:
-God!!!-Ayyyy!” I screamed loudly, making my friends run to my room.
-What happened to you, Sofia? -Shayla asked me, looking at my face, while she put her hand on my forehead, because I was very sweaty and I looked haggard.
-I felt some cramps in my stomach, as if something was turning in it. Ouch! It’s a very sharp pain,” I complained, grabbing her waist, while I was sitting on the bed.
They took me to the bathroom and insisted on taking me to the doctor, but I didn’t want to go, because it would go away, I thought, believing it was just some colic from what I ate the day before. I stayed that way for several more days.
Just before the month before my graduation ceremony, my parents insisted on calling. To put my mind at ease, I decided to answer their video call.
-What’s wrong with you, daughter? -My mother asked when she saw me lying down.
-Nothing! I’m resting, what are you calling me for? -I asked rebelliously and resented them for not accompanying me to my graduation ceremony. Suddenly, if they had come, none of what I suppose happened to me would have happened to me.
-Why are you treating us like this, Sofia? We are your parents,” Dad replied, with a mischievous smile, which I already know.
“He wants something from me,” I mused, narrowing my eyes, bracing myself for some request from him, and my mother confirmed it with her anguished look. Willing not to indulge him, whatever it was, I asked her…..
-What do you want from me? Because you only call when “you” want something.
-Why are you so rude and haughty, Sofia? Remember that we are your parents…
-And you, if you remember that I am your only daughter? -I interrupted violently and angrily… Anyway…! What do you want? What are you calling me for?
-Ahem, ahem! -My father blurted, “Do you remember your engagement to Jose David? -asked my father, without any filter whatsoever.
-My what? -I questioned in astonishment. “Are you going to continue with that stupidity? In the middle of the 21st century and you with such a retrograde mentality of the beginning of the world Forget it! -I shouted.
“I didn’t command you to give your word to your friend, when I was still a child. Solve “your problems” You leave me alone. For God’s sake! -I growled again, closing the call, leaving my father with the word in his mouth.
“Shit! What does he think, that he can negotiate my life, as if I were one more of his possessions?”, I angrily analyzed, seeing how he doesn’t care about what I think, feel or desire. They insisted several times on the call, but I did not answer them.
A month after my graduation…
With new symptoms of illness in my body, nausea, severe morning vomiting, shortness of breath, pelvic pain and extreme tiredness, I opted to ask my friends to take me to the clinic.
Once at the clinic, when the doctor began to examine me, he asked me a series of questions, while I was writhing with colicky pain, I could not explain well what it was. The fact is that he did not give me anything for the pain or discomfort, but ordered my friends to take me to the lab.
At the lab, they did blood, stool and urine tests. Apparently, the doctor who attended me wanted nothing more than to ease my discomfort. With the blood they took from me, I think I could even analyze the date of birth of my grandparents.
“For God’s sake! I recognize that I am not brave for syringes, I dread them and on top of that it hurts me a lot when the needle enters my skin” I thought, about to start crying because of everything I was feeling at that moment.
-Calm down little sister! Soon we will know what you have and when you start the treatment you will feel relief,” Shayla consoled me, while Sheyli pushed the wheelchair back to the emergency room, where we will wait for the results.
Exactly one hour after the samples were taken, the lab gave the doctor my results. The doctor, reviewing them in detail, came over to give me a new order: “Do a pelvic ultrasound”.
Dry swallowing and worried, since the doctor did not give me a diagnosis, but ordered me to do another test, I asked him: “Doctor, why do I need a pelvic ultrasound?
-Doctor Why do I require a pelvic ultrasound? -I asked with great concern and a little bit of fear in my stomach, which, by the way, had not complained again of pain or cramping.
-Because I need to check what is happening with the fetus, since the only thing the results show is that you are pregnant.
-What the…? -I shouted in astonishment and panic.
