Chapter 45
Feng Lei rushes to the house of Jin as soon as the exam is over his heart pounding, rushing upstairs to the private room he stands by the door a weird kind of feeling arising in him when his eyes caught WanKe who is sitting on the bed looking around his expression showing that he is curious of what happened.
“You are awake,” Feng Lei utters his lips twitches up without his intention, he rushes towards WanKe and cups his face with both hands “I was worried,” moving closer he places his lips on his forehead.
“I’m glad that you’re awake all were worried about you,” he looks down at him his heart clenches when he sees his tearful eyes, he goes to speak but stops when WanKe hugs him abruptly resting his head on his chest staring at an empty space.
“The one who killed your sister is…,”
“I know,”
“How?,” His voice comes out low like asking himself, he blinks when his eyes get itchy letting the tears which blurred his vision to flow down his cheeks slowly.
Feng Lei places his palm on his head and pats it softly in a way of soothing him “After the death of my sister the Wen
Kingdom got the power over the military,” he looks down at his head “I thought it was coincidence but it’s not,”
“I’m sorry,” he stutters feeling guilty of his step father’s sins, closing his eyes he lets his mind to drive into his memory, the picture of his mother flashing in front of him making him sink, he doesn’t know how to react as all piled up suddenly, the fact that his mother passed away and he couldn’t protect her made him feel guilty and also knowing that he has been helping someone who is a monster all his life not giving a thought for his own desires.
“Brother Wales?,” He asks thinking of him standing by his side against his master even though he had no reason for doing it as he was clueless of the scene.
“I didn’t see him but I’m sure that he is alright” Feng Lei utters hesitatingly.
“I’m sorry,” WanKe whispers holding on him tight he lets out a heavy sigh “Everything is because of me.”
“Nothing is your fault,”
“It is, WanKe died to save me, mother died to save me and Wales did it to save me but I couldn’t save any one of them,” Feng Lei remains silent letting WanKe to spill his heart out as sometimes listening is more helpful than comforting.
“I have been helping someone whom I shouldn’t, ten years, I spent ten years to find the one but never had a single clue that’s someone who is with me,” he moves his head low “All those smiles and cares were fake,” He clutches Feng Lei’s dress leaning onto him , he stays silent his mind holding onto many things.
“You should go back to the academy,” WanKe breaks the silence “Go back and study,” wiping his cheeks with the back of his palm he lifts his body and sits straight “You have to prepare for the last test.”
“I can stay, I’ve prepared everything,”
“Feng Lei,” taking a deep breath in he faces him “Go back,” he blurts his voice sounding steady and stern.
“I….,”
“I’m fine,” he cuts him off “I don’t have the energy to argue,” plastering a fake smile on his face, he tries to show that he alright but completely broken inside, he doesn’t want to ruin Feng Lei’s future as all the prince of every Kingdom’s dream is to bring power to their kingdom and become the leader.
“Okay,” getting up from the bed Feng Lei looks down at WanKe who is smiling at him “Take some rest, your wound is not healed yet and….,” he bends low passing him a reassuring smile “don’t leave without me as earlier.”
“I won’t,” standing up he waves at him.
“Sleep well,” Feng Lei walks backwards keeping his eye fixed on WanKe who is smiling at him, his inner being worried knowing what is behind that smile he is wearing. He walks out of the room with heavy heart, closing the door he leans on the wall beside the door.
As soon as the door closes WanKe could hold the heartbreak no longer, he falls to the floor in a dishevelled heap as his grief pours out in a flood of uncontrollable tears.

“Master,” Lord Wen moves back getting down from the bed, he looks at the doorway where one of his guard is standing, his eyes wide, a expression of astonishment and sympathy written on his face.
“What?,” Lord Wen roars furiously.
“There is someone causing trouble,” he stutters in fear.
“Who are they?,” Slamming the door close behind him he stomps out to the gate.
“It was stolen,” HenYu cries glancing at the guard in front of him.
“If you’ll don’t check it out I’ll speak around telling that you all stole his pouch,” ChengLi warns in a low voice.
“What’s wrong?,” lord Wen yells from inside standing by the entrance of the gate.
Henyu’s eyes widens and he holds ChengLi’s hand when the rough voice hits on his eardrums making his heart beat rise in nervousness, he looks straight at his face and moves his gaze down slowly he gulps down his saliva watching the sword hung on the belt around his waist, his brain warning him not show any hint of their act because if they are caught they will be sued as taking someone’s life is nothing between the battles of Kingdoms and after all he is the prince of a lowest ranked state where as nothing can be done against the higher states.
Pulling HenYu behind ChengLi steps forward, bending low he greets Lord Wen and faces him “A guard of your kingdom has stolen my brother’s pouch, he just got his salary,”
“They are not ill mannered,” Lord Wen growls in a low voice.
“We just want to check it out, maybe they took it by mistake,” ChengLi answers politely his internal voice cursing the person in front of him “It was lost near the place where the arrangement of coffin is done,” he explains further trying not to give them a hint of lie.
Rubbing his chin Lord Wen looks around giving a thought of it, he did not doubt them as he sent some guards to buy things and flowers for his wife’s funeral but he cannot remember who was sent to buy it. Without dragging the issue he orders to call out the guards to stand at the yard to check on them, he is sure that no one would have stole anything but he let them check out as if they don’t find the truth there will be a rumour about them.
ChengLi walks in and HenYu follows him both of them examining each guard’s face. They walk slow making sure that Feng Lei has enough time to find WanKe.
“Sorry for the inconvenience caused master,” ChengLi apologises after walking around for ages.
They storm out immediately rushing to the back wall of the mansion to check out whether their plan worked.
“Is he alright?,” HenYu asks the doctor who is checking Wanke’s pulse.
Feng Lei was afraid to call a doctor as they will know Wanke’s identity, it won’t be a problem if they find out that he is a girl as they have no idea who he is but he was afraid in the thought of that sometimes they might know that he is the fifth prince, therefore he informed his maid to call doctor Ting who is close to him and a loyal person whom he can trust.
“Let’s go out,” Feng Lei orders walking towards the doorway leaving them alone.
“I want to be by his side,” HenYu worries his eyes never leaving the blood stain on Wanke’s clothes.
“Why did his father do this?,” ChengLi growls under his breath anger rising in him.
Doctor Ting separates the lapel of Wanke’s hanfu, his hand finding the edge of the material on his chest.
“Let’s wait outside,” Feng Lei requests mentally slapping himself for forgetting to inform the doctor about the situation so that he can undress after they are out.
HenYu walks towards the door but stops in his tracks and turns around when he hear ChengLi speak.
“He is a girl,” ChengLi’s voice comes out startled his eyes forgetting to blink.
