Chapter 44

Ashton’s POV

As we left our pack territory behind and ventured towards the territory of the Shadow Pack, my mind raced with thoughts of what lay ahead.

The tension in the vehicle was palpable, and I couldn’t shake the weight of the responsibility that rested on my shoulders. There was thing that I knew for certain, and that was that I have to do everything in my power to find these three fuckers and to have them dealt with accordingly.

It didn’t take long, before we finally approached the border of the Shadow Pack though, where a group of guards awaited us. Their expressions were stern, and they held a defensive stance which only pissed me off more..

Rose was seated beside me, choosing to remain quiet, probably from sensing that myself and my wolf was on edge.

It was clear to me already that they took their security around here seriously… but now wasn’t the time for compliments…

I pull the vehicle to a slow stop watching the first raise his hand to me – gesturing for me to pull over. The lead guard, a burly werewolf with a scor running across his cheek, stepped forward, approaching my vehicle whilst inspecting the other cars filled with my men who had followed me here.

He eyed us with a mix of suspicion and caution – motioning for me to roll down my window, being unable to see my face properly from the tint… His gaze shifted the second we laid eyes on each other him seeming to notice me almost instantly. His gaze lingered on me for a few more seconds, clearly recognizing me as the Alpha of their neighbouring pack, as I could practically see the wheels turning in the man’s head.

It was clear from the initial opening and closing of the man’s mouth leaving him at a complete loss of words for a few long minutes that he was unsure of what to do next and how to treat the situation.

It wasn’t common for Alphas to turn up randomly on another packs land. It could even be seen is a sign of disrespect for not notifying them first before the visit.

The guards expression remained unyielding, as he exchanged a wary glance with his comrades. The tension in the air was palpable, and I could sense their underlying suspicion of what we were up to,

“I can’t just let you through without confirmation first, the guard replied, his stance on the matter unwavering. “We have strict border security protocols around here.”

To this, I laughed, shaking my head in utter disbelief at his words.

I reach back to take Rose’s hand in mine, offering her some comfort and guidance as I lead us inside – following Marcus upstairs to his private office.

As we entered Marcus’s office, the atmosphere was a mixture of tension and curiosity. He gestured for us both to take a seat opposite him, as we do just that, watching him sink down in to his own brown leather chair straightening up his tie.
