| tried to push the thought of Nelly and Aisha out of my mind. | couldn’t care less about either of them. What mattered was my pack and our safety. | had to do whatever it took to keep us safe.

| needed to come up with a new plan, or else my pack would be at risk. | had to find a way to get these packs on my side, without having to resort to asking Alpha Kex for help. He was a ruthless leader, and | knew he would demand something in return for his assistance.

| needed to find a way to gain the upper hand, to give myself some leverage. But what could | do? | wracked my brain, trying to think of something, anything that would give me an advantage.

| sat there, racking my brain for ideas, but nothing came to me. Finally, | decided to ask Carl for help. | stood up and headed for his room, but as | approached, | heard moans. coming from inside. | hesitated, not wanting to interrupt whatever was going on in there.

| decided not to disturb them, and turned to walk away. But then I heard a familiar voice, one that | knew all too well. My heart started racing, and | leaned my ear against the door, trying to hear better.

| could hear the voice more clearly now, moaning and calling out a name.

“Harder... Carl,” she moaned out loud.

It was Shantel, and she was calling for Carl. My world seemed to stop, as | stood there, breathe, like my heart was about to burst out of my chest.

But it was Carl who spoke next. “Don’t talk to her,” he said, his voice firm. “Speak to me. She is innocent.” | stared at him, dumbfounded. Was he really trying to defend her? Did he really think | would believe her?

“Are you kidding me?” | asked, my disbelief clear in my voice. “You expect me to believe that? But | don’t have time for this,” | said, my anger turning to disgust. | fixed my gaze on Shantel.

“You're a traitor, a whore,” | said, my voice cold and hard. “You lied to me, and | believed you. | rejected Nelly just because of you, because you told me she was evil, that she was a curse, that’s why our parents died, and her brother went missing.” | could feel my voice rising, my words coming out in a roar. “And all this time, you were lying to me. You were sleeping with my best friend!”

“It's not what it looks like,” she pleaded, her voice shaking. But | wasn’t going to fall for her excuses.

“Don't tell me that,” | snapped, my voice icy cold. “If you say that again, | swear I'll. strangle you with my bare hands and feed your corpse to the rogues.”

My words were harsh, and | could see the fear in her eyes. “What is it | haven’t done for you?” | asked, my voice tight with emotion. “I’ve provided everything you wanted, I’ve gone as far as making you my Luna.”

| regret every bit of it now, | had given her everything, and she had betrayed me. How could she do this to me?

“I'm sorry,” she pleaded, her voice shaking. But | was beyond the point of forgiveness.

“Can sorry change anything?” | asked, my voice tight with anger. She was silent, and | could feel my irritation rising.

“How long has this been going on?” | demanded, but no one answered. | paced the room, my frustration mounting. Finally, | couldn’t take it anymore. “Can someone please answer me?” | said, my voice weary and thin. | needed an answer, and | needed it.

Noy.

“The day that Aisha and Nelly left,” Shantel muttered. | turned to look at Carl. My anger was bubbling over, and | could barely contain it.

“You bastard!” | yelled, slapping him hard across the face. He staggered back, looking shocked and hurt.

| realized that he must have been my best friend once, but | could see why Aisha had left him so easily. He was a liar and a cheat, and he had betrayed me in the worst way possible. | couldn’t forgive him, not after what he had done.

“You're a coward,” | said, my voice shaking with anger. “I consoled you every day when Aisha rejected you, and this is how you repay me?” | struck him again, my anger boiling

over.

He laughed, but it was a hollow, mocking laugh. “Are you in pain?” he asked, his voice dripping with venom. “It’s all your fault,” he said. | was confused, and | couldn’t understand what he meant.

“What do you mean?” | asked, my voice trembling.

“If you hadn’t sold Nelly to Alpha Kex, Aisha would still be here with me,” he said, his voice raw with pain. “She wouldn’t have rejected me.”

| couldn't believe what | was hearing. “So you're blaming me?” | said, my voice shaking with anger. “Is that why you cheated on me?”

| lunged at him, ready to attack. Shantel tried to pull me away, but | was too strong. “Someone help!” she screamed, and the door burst open. The guards dragged me from him, and | struggled against their grip.

The guards let go of me, and | straightened my shirt, my heart still pounding in my chest. “Lock these traitors up,” | ordered, my voice cold and hard. “I turned and walked out of the room, my fists clenched at mys
