KAIDEN STIRLING
I watched Francisco as he ran into Lyra’s open arms. “Aunt Lyra,” he called, crying hard and clutching her tight. She got off her knees and stood to her full height, kissing him all over his face. “Oh sweetheart, you’re okay. I’m so glad you’re okay,” she said tearfully.
“Where’s mommy?” He asked, looking over her shoulder and wiping his eyes. “Is she okay?” He asked, looking at her face. “Yes sweetheart, she’s fine. She’s just getting some sleep,” she said and it was obvious that she was trying to force her voice to be strong.
“You wanna see her?” She asked him, giving him a soft smile. I saw her wince but she hid it quickly behind her smile. I knew it was because of her hurt lip. Every single guard that had
answered Safiya and did all of the bullshit she requested was going to be in trouble with me.
He nodded with a shy smile. “Is that okay? Is she hurt?” He asked in a small voice as she headed down the hallway to where Freda’s ward was. She glanced back at me as though she was trying to let me know that I could come along. I nodded and she continued down. “Just a little bit, Cisco. But she’s being taken care of,” she responded.
I turned to the two guards who had followed me from the house. Dane walked up to me from the hallway to my left. “Find out if Safiya made it into this place and get back to me now,” I

told them and watched them walk away. I had studied them in the few minutes I had been with them and I knew that their loyalties were not anywhere near Safiya. Content is property of NôvelDrama.Org.
They would tell me if they found out that Safiya had gotten into the hospital.
I wanted to see Harper, but I was scared. I was too scared to watch her lying in a bed, slowly dying. The thought brought tears to my eyes and I was glad Dane interrupted those thoughts. “Alpha,” he called, stopping beside me and staring straight ahead like I was.
“I spoke to the doctor in charge of Freda, and he told me her condition,” Dane said, and I could not help the dread that filled my stomach. Lyra was acting somewhat okay, so that was a sign that Freda was still alive at least. “Tell me,” I said, unsurprised by how tight my voice sounded when I spoke.
“She was injected with a strong anesthesia that was mixed with an almost lethal quantity of wolfsbane,” he said slowly as if saying the words slowly would reduce the effect those words had on me. I took in a deep breath, looking down at my feet and then biting my lip.
I didn’t know whether to explode with fury and smash everything I possibly could here or leave this place, find Safiya, and strangle her to death.
Neither seemed like a good option, but entertaining the thought somewhat relieved the pressure I was feeling.
“Is she going to be fine?” I asked quietly. He sighed. “The doctor does not know for sure, but–” I turned to look at him. “Doesn’t know for sure? That’s his job. What’s he doing in a hospital if he

can’t be ́sure of something?” I fumed and I backed away from him.
“Alpha, I was getting to the reason,” he said calmly and I pressed my lips together, stepping back from him and turning to face the hallways again. He took a deep breath. “Everyone. responds differently to wolfsbane. No one decides to die after a week of having it in their system. Someone who had wolfsbane in her system died last week, and she didn’t have this quantity in her body,” he said, looking at me.
I sighed and said nothing, feeling my heart weaken in my chest. There was no way two females that I absolutely loved were hanging by a single thread, a fifty–fifty chance. I was going to have to let Lyra believe that Freda was doing fine until the doctors found a way to make things better for Freda.

Lyra and I stared at Freda and Francisco as they lay on the bed. We were sitting in a corner of the room where it would be comfortable to watch them while they were in bed. “Wanna tell me everything that happened over some food?” I asked as the guards quietly brought in the food I had gotten at the cafeteria.
Her eyes stared at the paper plates as the guards dropped the food and she thanked them while looking over at me with a smile. “Yeah, I’m starving. We haven’t had anything to eat since,” she said, confirming what I had thought. I nodded and she looked at me with a small smile. “Really…thanks for helping us back there. You’re not a complete dick,” she said with a smile and I chuckled despite the guilt in my chest.
“I think I should be apologizing. This whole thing… Safiya hating Freda, it’s mostly my fault and you are suffering for it,” I
