Chapter 18
Nydia was startled. Jesse’s family didn’t like her because of her past behavior. Jesse would take his two children to his parents’ house for dinner every month. Nydia went a few times, but each time it ended unpleasantly. Eventually, she stopped going and began to dislike not only Jesse but also everyone associated with him.NôvelDrama.Org copyrighted © content.
Looking back, Nydia really wanted to kill herself. And sure enough, the next afternoon, she dressed up and followed Jesse and his two children as they were about to leave. Jesse stopped and looked at her, his expression cold, but he didn’t say anything.
“Mommy, are you coming with us to Grandma’s house?” Molly asked.
“Yeah,” Nydia replied, reaching out to touch Molly’s hair.
Molly clapped her hands in excitement. “Wow, Mommy is coming with us! That’s awesome!”
“What are you there for?” Jesse’s attitude was not good. “You two go ahead and get in the car.” After the two children got in the car, they looked at Jesse and Nydia through the car window.
“I haven’t seen your parents in a long time. I just want to go see them,” Nydia said with a smile, not upset by Jesse’s attitude.
“What else do you want?” Jesse looked at her, his eyes cold and warning.
Since Nydia married Jesse, she had only been to the Pascall Manor three times, and each time ended very unpleasantly, leaving a bad impression on the Pascalls about Nydia.
“I just want to go with you guys and have dinner,” Nydia said, flashing a very bright smile at Jesse. “Get in the car.”
She got in the car first, ignoring Jesse’s gloomy face. Jesse also got in the car and saw that Molly was already happily in Nydia’s arms. His face became even more gloomy, worried that Molly would have the same fate as Tavish, and he couldn’t let Molly and Nydia disappear from his sight at the same time.
“You better behave yourself,” he warned coldly.
He didn’t want to argue in front of the children.
Nydia’s recent abnormal behavior was starting to test his patience.
There were only occasional conversations between Molly and Nydia in the car, while Tavish and Jesse didn’t speak at all.
They arrived at the Pascall Manor.
“Grandpa, Grandma! We came to see you! We missed you so much!” Molly rushed over as soon as she got out of the car.
“Little Molly is here! Grandpa will hold you! You’ve grown up so much, you’re so heavy!”
“Grandpa is getting stronger and stronger. Even though Molly has gotten heavier, you can still hold me,” Jesse’s father, Andrew Pascall, laughed.
Tavish was more mature and serious than Molly. He took out a painting he had drawn. “Grandma, look, this is a picture I drew of Grandpa, Grandma, and Aunt Sibley.”
“You drew it so well.”
The elderly couple looked very happy upon seeing the two children. However, their smiles froze and their faces darkened when they saw Nydia getting out of the car and standing by Jesse’s wheelchair.
“Mom, Dad, it’s been a long time since I last visited you,” Nydia said with a smile.
But to the ears of the other people, it was translated as: “It’s been a long time since I last caused trouble for you, but I’m here today.”
They went into the house together.
“Dad, I brought some tea for you. You seem to like Maofeng tea. I heard that this one is very good. You can try it later,” Nydia said.
“Mom, I saw this pearl necklace when I was shopping. It looks very beautiful, and I thought it would suit your style. You can try it on,” she added.
Nydia not only brought herself but also gifts.
Andrew loved tea and was knowledgeable about it. He knew from the packaging that this was no ordinary tea.
As for the pearl necklace, each pearl was perfectly round and plump, emitting a slight pinkish luster. It was a rare treasure.
The elderly couple were stunned and looked at Jesse for answers. Jesse barely shook his head, indicating that he was not sure either.
Andrew didn’t say anything. Nydia was acting too unusually today.
But Jesse’s mother, Rosalind Tate, couldn’t hold back.
“What are you doing today? Coming over for dinner all of a sudden with gifts? Are you trying to please us?” she asked bluntly.
She was still very angry about past events and had a very bad impression of her daughter-in-law. If they were to divorce, she would be the first to support it!
Nydia nodded with a smile, “Yes, I’ve made a lot of mistakes before. Today, I’m here specifically to please the both of you.”
“Please us? What do you want by pleasing us? Are you trying to bully someone? My son or my grandson? Nydia, I warn you, don’t try to fool us with this act. If you behave well, it’s fine, but if you try anything, we’ll definitely kick you out!”
Rosalind became angrier as she spoke, especially when she thought about Nydia’s past behavior that embarrassed them in front of their relatives and caused their son and grandchildren to be wronged.
“And, this is yours. I don’t want it. Take it back yourself!” She picked up the pearl necklace and shoved it into Nydia’s hand.
“Mom, the gift was from me to you. It’s yours. There’s no reason to take it back.” Nydia put the pearl necklace back in the gift box and covered it.
“You’re not taking it back? Then I’ll throw it away!” Rosalind glared at Nydia. She felt that her good mood had been ruined by Nydia, who hadn’t visited the Pascall Manor in two or three years and was certainly up to no good.
She took the gift box and walked over to the garbage bin, forcefully throwing it in.
Nydia still smiled. “Since it’s already been given to Mom, it’s your thing now. You decide how to deal with it.”
Jesse’s gaze fell on her hand, her right hand clutching her left hand, showing that she was exerting force.
“Dad, take Mom and put the things away. These are the gifts from your daughter-in-law, you should take them with you. It’s a waste to throw them away.” He spoke with a light tone, but it was not open to debate.
He signaled to his assistant, who took the gift box out of the trash bin. Although the bin had nothing else inside, he still wiped the box clean with his sleeve before placing it on the table.
Andrew took the things and pulled Rosalind away, but Rosalind still wanted to say something.
“Don’t make a scene in front of the children!”
This sentence successfully stopped Rosalind. Although she was extremely dissatisfied with Nydia, she was very satisfied with the two children. As soon as they arrived at the Pascall Manor, the two children ran out to play, and they didn’t see the commotion just now.
Nydia glanced at Jesse, knowing that he had helped her just now by giving her a way out. “Thank you,” she whispered to him.
Jesse was initially surprised, but then he said in a low voice, “Don’t cause trouble for me.”
“I won’t,” Nydia replied calmly. Even when Rosalind treated her badly just now, she didn’t get angry or feel wronged. She knew she had to endure it. “I’m going to check on the children.”
She walked out and found the two children outside. Sibley Pascall, Jesse’s sister, had just returned home and saw Nydia. Sibley immediately remembered how Nydia mistreated the children and frowned, saying coldly, “What are you doing here?”
Before Nydia could say anything, Sibley ordered her to leave. “My family doesn’t welcome you, please leave!”
