PATIENCE
Screams were heard as Nolan and Darren stood anxiously outside the room.
Layla was currently in there trying to deliver her baby and it had been taking too long.
The only Nolan heard were screams and it left him worried.
“What the f*ck” he cussed fighting the urge not to break into the room.
He could feel that Layla was in pain.
Nolan’s heart was pounding as he stood outside the door, listening to the screams coming from inside. His stomach churned with anxiety, and he wanted nothing more than to be able to help Layla in some way. But he knew he had to stay out of the way and let the medical staff do their job.
“That’s it, I’m going in..” Not being able to take it anymore, he was about to barge into the room when Darren held him back.
“I don’t think you should do that. Exercise patience..” he stated trying to calm Nolan down.
” Patient?” Nolan scoffed, running his hands through his hair. He was literally on the verge of losing his mind.
“Nolan, please,” Darren pleaded, his voice urgent.
“I know this is hard, but you need to keep it together. Layla needs you to be strong right now, not panicking and it’s not right to go in there. ”
Nolan took a deep breath, trying to steady his nerves. He knew Darren was right, but it was so hard to stay calm when he could hear Layla in pain.
“What if something’s wrong?” he asked, his voice barely a whisper. “What if Layla is in trouble? It’s been damn three hours already!!”
Darren reached out and put a hand on Nolan’s shoulder as he spoke.
“Calm down man. I heard labor usually takes time”
Nolan tried to take deep breaths, but he could feel his patience running out with every passing second. “I can’t do this,” he shook his head.
“I can’t just stand here and do nothing. What if something happens to her?”
Darren looked at him, knowing how hard it would be to calm Nolan down.
“I know this is difficult, but you need to trust the doctors and nurses,” he said, his voice gentle but firm. “They know what they’re doing. Let them do their jobs.”
Just then, a female doctor walked out of the room.
” What the hell is going on in there?” Nolan yelled the moment she came out.
” I’m so sorry Alpha. But she’s having difficulties in pushing out the baby” The doctor informed in fear as she bowed her head.
Nolan felt like the ground was opening up beneath him. “What do you mean?” he asked, his voice trembling. “What’s wrong!!!” His voice thundered.
The doctor took a deep breath. “There are some complications with the birth,” she began.
“The baby is in distress, and we’re doing everything we can to help Layla. But I’m afraid it’s not going as smoothly as we’d hoped.
“What the fuck did you mean by distress?? I should have taken her to Karen instead of you quack taking care of her” Nolan deadpanned. The labor came too soon and there wouldn’t have been enough time to take her to New York.
The doctor’s eyes widened in shock at Nolan’s words.
“Please understand that we are doing everything we can for the Luna and her baby,” she said, her voice taking on an apologetic tone.
“What exactly is the problem here?” Nolan asked, taking in a deep breath.
“She’s finding difficulty in pushing, I think it’s due to stress and anxiety and we can’t perform a cesarean section on her” she explained.
“What do you mean you can’t?” Nolan asked, his heart sinking even further.
“Why not?”NôvelDrama.Org holds © this.
“It’s because she’s already in advanced labor,” the doctor explained.
“A cesarean section is typically performed earlier in the labor process when the baby is not yet in the birth canal. At this point, we would have to wait for the baby to be fully born before we could perform the surgery, and that would put both Layla and the baby at greater risk.”
” How’s Layla?” He questioned.
” She’s not too stable but she needs to push out at all costs… ”
” Come with me..” Nolan motioned as she entered the room with the doctor.
Lying on the bed was Layla, she looked pale and one could see that she was stressed out.
“Layla..” Nolan ran to her as he knelt near the bed then he held her hand. He felt his heart break at the sight of her. She looked drained.
“Nolan..” Layla called weakly as she was on the verge of crying.
“Shh, shh. It’s okay. Calm down… ” Nolan whispered as he wiped the sweat off her forehead.
“I’m scared,” Layla stammered, her voice shaking. “I don’t know if I can do this.”
Nolan looked her in the eye, his gaze steady and reassuring.
“You can do this,” he said. “You are strong and you are capable. You are going to be okay, and so is your baby.”
“I can’t do this… ” she cried softly.
“It hurts so much.”
“I know it does,” Nolan said, his own voice thick with emotion.
“But you have to keep trying. You can do this.”
He held her hands tighter as he said.
” I’m with you. Take a deep breath and calm down.. ” as he said those words. He signaled the doctor to resume her duty.
“Push!” The doctor’s voice rang in Layla’s ears and she gritted her teeth tight.
Layla’s body tensed as she took a deep breath and pushed with all her might. The pain was excruciating, but she willed herself to keep going. She could hear Nolan’s voice in her ear, encouraging her to keep pushing.
“Arghh!!” She yelled in pain and then she suddenly stopped.
“I can’t do this Nolan..” she sobbed.
“Of course you can. Take a deep breath and remember I love you..” Nolan uttered in assurance, planting a light kiss on her forehead.
“Come on, let’s go again for the last time..” he caressed her cheeks as Layla held him so tight while she pushed with all her might.
Layla gritted her teeth and gave one last, mighty push.
And then, suddenly, the pain stopped. Layla felt a rush of relief and exhaustion wash over her. She looked at the doctor, who was smiling widely, while Nolan wiped off the sheen of sweat that repeatedly gathered on her forehead.
“You did it!” the doctor announced happily as the loud cries of a baby were heard.
“Congratulations Luna. It’s a girl!”
Layla’s heart swelled with love as she looked at her new baby girl who was in the arms of the doctor.
She felt a rush of emotion – relief, joy, and exhaustion.
Layla looked down at the tiny, squirming bundle, and felt her heart fill with love.
“She’s perfect,” she whispered, as tears of happiness spilled down her cheeks.
“Yes, she is,” Nolan said, his eyes shining as he gazed at the baby girl. He couldn’t believe that he just become a father.
