The concierge came over to open the car door, but no one got out for a while. Just as the concierge was about to speak, the driver got out, taking a wheelchair from the car.
That was when the concierge noticed that the beautiful lady had only one leg under her gown. With the assistance of the concierge and the driver, she managed to sit in the wheelchair.
The driver asked with some worry, “Miss, can you manage on your own? Should I push you in?”
The woman’s voice carried a hint of anger, shouting, “Get lost!”
Once Cynthia entered the banquet hall, she immediately became the center of attention. A big screen inside the hall sho the live footage from the red carpet outside.
Every guest in the banquet hall knew Cynthia had officially married Jonathan. They all came up to congratulate them, quickly surrounding Cynthia and Jonathan.
Some people were familiar, but to Cynthia, most were strangers. Jonathan introduced Cynthia to a few of them, senior executives of the Bennett Group.
Cynthia politely greeted them all. But she could see through the surface. These execs appeared polite, but their words had sarcastic undertone, with veiled insinuations.
Because they were senior figures in the Bennett Group, and considering Jonathan’s situation, Cynthia managed a smile. But when faced with people like these, Jonathan took Cynthia away without hesitation.
After a few times, Cynthia asked, “Isn’t this a bit too much?”
Cynthia sighed and continued, “I can handle this. After all, they’re elders. And honestly, they think we don’t match. So, you don’t need to be upset with them for my sake.”
Jonathan replied, “They’re all on Whitney’s side, so there’s no need to try to please them.”
Cynthia was a bit surprised. She asked, “All of them?” She thought about the executives she had just met, noticing that eighty percent didn’t like her. She wondered if they were all Whitney’s people.
Jonathan nodded and said, “Yeah, Whitney’s got way more influence in the company. After all, she became the GM at just twenty.”
Cynthia was lost in thought.
Jonathan continued, “And even if they’re not supporting Whitney, if anyone disrespects you, feel free to snap back. I’ve got your back; I’m not letting you suffer for me.”
Cynthia smiled and replied, “Okay, got it.”
Cynthia had never been one to be pushed around. She was just not familiar with the company’s situation right now, so she was putting the big picture first for Jonathan’s sake.
Cynthia didn’t want to offend anyone. These people might be Jonathan’s key supporters in the future. But since Jonathan said they were Whitney’s followers, she didn’t have to be polite.
However, Cynthia felt more anxious inside. There was a very important part of today’s annual meeting. Clifford would appear to announce who will inherit the Bennett Group.
Clifford planned to step down at the end of the year. The heir would become the Chairman of the Bennett Group, which had numerous companies and extensive industries.

This was like a complete overhaul of a business empire and a change in leadership. The news had garnered significant attention across the board.
If Whitney became the Chairman of the Bennett Group, she would definitely make things difficult for Jonathan. All of his projects would likely be canceled. Even the successful completion of the Paradise Resort would be uncertain.
In the crowd, Cynthia spotted Whitney. As always, Whitney was poised and elegant, holding a wine glass and engaging cheerfully with the top executives. Standing beside Whitney was still Alex.
Cynthia frowned. She knew Alex was Whitney’s lover. Whitney would spend a fortune on Alex, even handing over the World of Elegance.
But the last time Cynthia saw them, it seemed like Whitney just treated Alex like a plaything, with no care at all. Cynthia wondered about Whitney’s true feelings for Alex.
As Cynthia was lost in thought, there was a new commotion in the crowd. Cynthia looked over at the crowd that was stirring. When she recognized who it was, she tensed up a bit.
It was Nina.
Since the last variety show filming ended, Cynthia hadn’t seen Nina. But she knew Nina had been in a car accident and had lost a limb.
The accident happened because Celine sent Nina the photo of Cynthia and Jonathan’s marriage certificate. The Sullivan family and the Sexton family almost ended up fighting over it.
In the end, Jonathan stepped in and smoothed things over. Celine was sent abroad. Jonathan transferred five percent of Bennett Group’s shares to Nina as compensation.
Cynthia knew all of this. Her feelings about Nina were complicated. She remembered their first meeting when Nina looked like a doll displayed in a shop window.
During the days they spent together, Cynthia could tell that Nina was extremely naive. Nina was deeply in love with Jonathan and even ended up jumping into the sea when Jonathan didn’t choose her.
Thinking about it, Cynthia felt a sharp pain in her heart. She thought a girl like Nina would definitely need to go through some experiences and face some harsh realities to grow up.
However, Cynthia didn’t expect the cost to be so high. It was clear Nina had matured. She seemed completely different from before.
Cynthia remembered that Nina used to always have long, straight hair and loved wearing pink or white dresses, always looking very youthful.
But today, Nina was wearing a black chiffon dress. The top was decorated with black feathers, and the skirt was puffy, hiding her legs.
Nina’s hair was still styled in a long, straight, princess cut. But her makeup had become much more sophisticated. Sitting in the wheelchair, she looked cold and fragile, elegant yet broken. She was like a black swan with broken wings.
Nina’s appearance drew a crowd of onlookers, many pointing and whispering about her.
Seeing this, Whitney walked over, too. She asked, “Ms. Sullivan, what brings you here?” Her tone was unfriendly.
A lot of people gathered around. Everyone knew that Nina was the child of Whitney’s ex–husband and his mistress. Whitney didn’t like Nina.
But people weren’t completely unfamiliar with Nina. She was once under Jonathan’s protection. But now, without Jonathan. coming to this place alone was like walking into a lion’s den.
Someone was observing Whitney’s expression and attitude. Property belongs to Nôvel(D)r/ama.Org.

Zoe, the manager of the PR department, immediately chimed in. “Ms. Sullivan, did you come to the wrong place? This is the Bennett Group’s annual meeting, not Sullivan’s.
“We’re going to dance later. Ms. Sullivan, with just one leg now, what brings you here to join the fun?”
Nina looked at Winnie and asked, “What’s your name?”
Zoe chuckled and replied, “My name is Zoe. Why are you asking, Ms. Sullivan.”
Nina said coldly, “I’ll remember you.”
